Excellent food and service!
Chesa
2013-01-20
It worths almost a 3-week-reservation as food and service were excellent. Food - starting from entree to main dish to dessert are all good. Definitely the fondue and raclette were the star. More than that, the ravioli and veal were very delicious! Ravioli was served hot, stuffed with rich meat and slightly crisp along the fringe. The beef rib was also good with very tender and thick meat, well-matched with the sauce... as for the Chocolate house and the petite four as the dessert, both marked a perfect end of another birthday dinner. What I really want to say was the exceptionally GOOD SERVICE, especially the Mr. manager *I think*. He would make sure every customer feel comfortable and well-served. Not only just water, he would really go around all the tables, serving glasses and taking pictures. Plus, having jokes with us. You could feel his passion and enthusiasm in building a warm and cozy ambience to all customers. We all had a very happy time, thank you for making me a happy birthday. All I want to say is, service counts. …Read More

Good food and terrible staff
Liu Yuan Pavilion
2013-01-19
That was my birthday dinner with my dear buddies. And it was a happy Friday too.It was alright that we had to wait till 8-ish even we had reserved a table at 8pm. The staff kept telling us and we understood - as long as the previous guests were not leaving, we had to wait. Fine.Until this rude staff served our table that I really could not tolerate. We would like to order appetizer first, and this staff showed us an annoying face. Any problem with that? Since we had 9 persons and just wondered if he could make a quantity of 9 'siu long baus', 'NO, ordered 3 sets of 4 siu long baus' that was what he said. Fine, we took that. The appetizer was very delicious and no complain. Not long after we ordered the appetizer, we already made our main dish order too. When the food came, we wanted to order rice. We really didnt want him and tried to ask for the other nice woman staff. Anyway, maybe he was the one responsible for our table. He made another condescending attitude. While we almost finished our dinner, my friend ordered extra snack, he took the order... for a long time until we asked again, he told us there was no more. The main dishes were overall very delicious. To be frank, I really glared at him and I didn't want to order any dessert even I can imagine how good it would be. When we paid the bill, he already started clearing up when we still sat there for just the last sip of our tea. And when the bill came, we saw the 'siu long bau' were counted in single piece, implying that we might can order according to our wanted quantity rather than fixed set. Anyway... If the staff didn't want to serve us, ask for other staff! That was the only one being rude to us, The other serving ladies were nice to us. And we already wanted to avoid that rude staff from the beginning. Supposedly a high standard restaurant with great food quality, I was very disappointed that one staff ruined our whole dinner.…Read More

Good food and bad service
Myung Ga Korean Restaurant
2010-09-23
That was all what I included. Food was good, with reasonable price. Nice view towards the Victoria Harbour. But the service was a complete disaster. - No one poured the tea until u request. One staff poured the nearest cup and went away. - No one cut the raw meat for you, they only serve a pair of big scissors that you had to cut the meat yourself. One more thing, it was dangerous to have such a big pair of scissors to customers- Waitress could 'black face' you: our table was already very full. One pony-tailed waitress served our fried rice quickly in a grumpy mood. The next minute she was having big smile, nice, polite, great and quick service to a table of foreigners. - We ordered coke, we finally had them until we called again the second time, after a long period of time- No one cleared our table and we had to switch off the burning stove ourselves (the net was burnt)- Have been asking for dessert several times to different staff and no one responded (or remembered). We asked one waitress claimed she was the reception but kept serving food. We have already commented to the manager immediately. Tho she waived the service charge ... it does not mean that your staff did not provide any service. No improvement at all. I feel sorry to the chef that the dishes are so nice, the manager is very polite and one male staff is good ... Sorry to say: I dun really want to go again. …Read More

Reaonable lunch set
Spuntini
2010-05-30
Regular thur lunch as usual. They got a nice venue with reasonable set.We started with minestrone and ciabatta, plus amuse bouche - sushi-like thing, quite nice to start the set! For the minestrone in pot, the soup was rich with ingredients that raised your appetite and served hot, well-matched with ciabatta.I had lasagna, while my friends had seafood risotto, roast chicken and spaghetti. My lasagna was quite good indeed! Very hot served, rich in cheese, fresh pasta. Yummy. My friends' chicken was tender; the shrimp in the risotto was huge and fresh, risotto was not too creamy; as for the spaghetti, it was chef-made, you could taste that. Same as the lasagna, cheese was rich *apparently we mixed everyone's dishes* Btw, the portion was appropriate for women as we all finished our plate. In the end, a nice cup of hot coffee marked the end of the set. Just simple and delicious, that was my conclusion. …Read More

Yummy ribs!
Bourbon
2010-05-13
I and my dear have been looking for ribs in HK and finally we got one of the best ribs we thought. And I quite enjoyed the brunch in the eatery with nice food and staff. First we were served with hot corn bread, I only had the crispy crust as I was foreseeing a big main coming to us! The bread for me was too hot for summer days ... My big jim came. Big - with pancakes, hash brown, sausage and sunny side up eggs. Among all the ingredients, I liked the eggs most. They were big! The others were not bad, it was a normal nice breakfast, that's all. As for the baby back, it came enormously with 4 big chunky, meaty and smoky ribs! I gotta remind you that everyone has preference for their food ... for ours, we did share the same in having ribs easily tear off from the bones, And Bourbon did a great job! The smoked favour was quite subtle ... the whole dish was great! I dun really need a knife to get the meat out, it just fell off when you did it with a fork! The meat was of cu tender and you can tell how long the smoking process was going. The fries as side dish was nice, in particular with homemade ketchup, its spotlight was stolen by the wonderful ribs For the free bloody mary ... I was not a big fan for the drink. Anywaz, we ended up the meal happily in the eatery with friendly staff. If you have similar preference in ribs, it worths trying I think! …Read More

HK Epicurus MissCL,I also loved eating Ribs, so thanks for your recommendation. Especially a proper smoked one!I heard Anthony's Ranch is good too but that's too far away for me to explore yet!I actually had great ribs once at Brivo just down the road from here, but sorry never gotten around to reviewing it yet. I wouldn't say that restaurant is great but the ribs even though not smoked, were good and tasty! :)

Happy Anniversary
One Thirty-One
2010-04-29
Going to the 4th year, incredible. It was a long way to this restaurant ... it was an exhausting trip ... but when I saw this lovely red brick house with green fields and garden, looking out to the beach and islands ... beautiful! The menu was set - I saved the menu for you all, too long to describe! it was a 4-course meal, plus bread, sorbet, cheese platter and beverage. Very first came the warm bread basket. It was very nice ... it was hard to explain in words ... the texture was spongy. Just great, in addition with the sauced garlic. The first course was the lobster with mango ... it was served nicely in the glass. Mango foam was very good, and the lobster was very fresh. Topped with rocket was excellent.Second was the creamy soup with cooked sea urchin, plus white asparagus. The soup was actually nice, yet it was quite heavy due to the cream. Also there were lots of sea urchin inside!!! After that came the chilling sorbet to sooth our appetite. Thirdly was the main. Sirloin sided with beef and potato puree. Very heavy! But the beef was of high quality. Sirloin was well-cooked and juicy. The Wagyu beef texture was stewed-like, very nice! Also the sided veggie was very good as they were from the neighboring field!! The baby carrots was very good.Actually, we have been sitting for hours to enjoy the fine dining ... continue ... Here came the cheese platter. Cannot believe our stomach, we are able to eat every cheese ... and I have nice blue cheese this time!!Finally came the dessert - an amazing strawberry glass. It was a well-made glass, with strawberry thins on top *marking our anniversary, haha*. The texture of yogurt was great with strawberry dices ... as for the balsamic reduction ... um ... not until my dear told me, I really dunno its existence in the glassCoffee to end up the whole meal. And it took 3 hours to finish everything ... did not matter as you can always go out to enjoy the lovely scenery, so tranquil and fresh. It was a complete chilling place, I adored it. Thought back a bit, I really dun mind long travel to get to the place. …Read More

La Crêperie (鉅芝樓)
2010-04-29
It was a rainy afternoon, and in this newly renovated area ... I could not spot where it was even I was in the buildingWell, very foreign inside ... and it took a time to flip the menu book ... at first we thought there was only a la carte $88 for 2 crepes, as main and dessert, plus a drink. lovely. Waiting ... and all our big dishes came. Mine got spinach and curry chicken, plus an egg yolk in the middle ...Whatever, and it looked like ... hm ... Darth vader. The crepe was a brown one, but nice as it was not a sweet one. As for the spinach and chicken, they were good to have with the crepe As for my dear mates, theirs were similar, just that my dear got extra mushroom. It was like a breakfast and also yummy lookingDessert time! We had caramel+chocolate, apple+caramel, also butter+sugar crepe. They are our main. The dish was as big as the main, nice. My caramel+chocolate was the heaviest, yet if you are blue, u should eat that! Also the apple+caramel was also nice as the apple was well-balanced with the sweetness ... as for the butter and sugar, should eat that before other sweet crepes Ended up with a cup of coffee and ran under the rainThe whole process has taken up 1 hr+ I believed. Nice. …Read More

Still my favourite tea venue
HABITŪ table
2010-04-11
After having a nice lunch, gotta have a nice tea to fill up my stomach afterwards. So glad to have it back near the Leighton area. And we sat along the glass area, had rose milk tea, iced peach tea and chocolate truffle cake. My rose milk tea was still nice even it moved to a new premise. Served hot in a big cup, heavy rose flavour, matched with english milk tea. Great. The chocolate truffle cake was also nice. The chocolate was very rich indeed. Texture was very truffle *of course* but really very very full afterwards. Definitely I will come back to try the food .. my favourite brunch *see if it is as good as PP3's *:)…Read More

Sushi Shin Japanese Restaurant
2010-04-11
Such a proximity to my home and have quality Japanese cuisine inherited fr Kenjo!Quite a fully booked restaurant and we sat by the sushi bar area that we always like. I had toro and tuna rice with cold soba; my dear had sushi set of 8. First came the steamed egg. Served hot and like having egg soup as it melted in ur mouth immediately, not bad.My main came - I quite liked the cold soba. The texture was chewy and the sauce was good. It was well-served for Spring/Summer while you lost your appetite. The rice also came. Slices of tuna and toro on top with seaweed on rice, very nice. I also liked the rice, the vinegar was just together, plus the seaweed was very good indeed! Going back to the essence: toro and tuna. The toro was nice, yet the tuna was even better. The sashimi was of course fresh and yummy. I was satisfied. My dear's set was also not bad. I had the tuna roll. quite good. Yet we expected the sushi came immediately once the chef completed making, like Kenjo *luckily that we always sat in front of Kenjo and he served one by one* , even his disciple was very very quick in completing the whole set. It was claimed that the sushi was nice, yet the sashimi got spare space to improve. As we always left Kenjo to decide the seasonal sashimi and really wow us... But overall speaking, it was also good quality. Mind you the price was slightly cheaper here. For sure, we looked forward to going again and expected improvement. Last came the sesame ice cream ... sure it was good. Hopefully to have lemon ice cream soon?Besides, both the chef and waitresses serve us well. …Read More

Quiet tea time
Yu-E Cake + Cafe
2010-03-28
Very stressed and wanna stay at home for the projects ... turned out to be watching sevens and having a refreshment tea at this venue. No one was there at 4-ish. Both of us shared a tea as I just craved for a hot coffee. We had the opera and mocha, as my dear could not have sth too mousse-y and creamy *but want cakes lol*Very nice in presentation with chocolate sauced blossom pattern next by the Opera. And my cup of mocha was topped with a hearty coffee art. The opera was not bad, not too rich. Layers identified, strong chocolate flavor. Just the side sauce was sooooo sweet. It was average overall, while mostly came from the presentation of the dish.My mocha was a super rich one, no sugar was needed. It was soupy ... having the mocha itself was enough for tea. So... the tea was a heavy one. And it was $75 incl 10% service charge, my stomach was very full, just like having lunch. Hope to try their signature cake when my dear was getting better …Read More

Luckily we were early, I thought we were having the last two red bean beverageWe had milk tea and coffee with red bean. My coffee with red bean was really nice, good for summer. The coffee was different fr other local shops, not too milky at least, not sour, not too sweet, not too much sugary water I believed ... and had a bunch of red bean underneath, delicious! I thought my dear also liked the milk tea as it was rare to see the whole thing finished. Also I had fried chicken wing ... normal snack, deep fried and well-cooked. I think I should have their signatures instead.I missed this shop all these years since I moved away fr Kowloon City during childhood. It was still the same taste, thanks god. …Read More

Patisserie Tony Wong

Always try to grab time out to go to Kowloon City to eat, eat and eatHearing there was a new pastry, here we came. So sad that all the lovely roses were reserved. We only bought the hazelnut and chocolate cake as well as the lemon cream puff.Hazelnut and chocolate cake was more hazel-nutty than chocolaty *haha, please understand my adj as really had to explain* different textures were apparent in the bite ... however, it was not giving me a wow impact, just not very special. Not bad, also not perfect. The lemon cream puff was similar. The bite was of crispy puff, strong lemon cream. It was not easy to eat in public, not during the first date or eating in front of any potential dates, haha. Overall the flavor was ok, as the topic said.…Read More

New favourite - Rose cake
Le Salon De Thé de Joël Robuchon
2010-03-14
Went to Central ... shopping. Passed by this lovely eatery, I usually could not resist having almond croissant and we saw sth lovely - rose dome cake >w< it was a rose red thing, pretty and attractive!Luckily, it was not at all appearance vs reality. The inner texture was nice - spongy and soft. The rose aroma filled in the cake with cream and berries I thought. Unexpected, really. It was as good as the earl grey cake. If you also loved rose-flavour like me, it was recommended to try! …Read More

This place seemed to have high recommendation ... it was really good :)It was a sunny day and we were on 22/F, enjoying a nice view. I had a 2-course meal while my dear had a 3-course.First came with the bread basket, yummy while it was still warm. They had salt to match with the bread, nice. Then the appetizers came: eel salad and ravioli in cream. My salad was like a fusion. The eel was ok, yet the salad leaves was fresh and it well-matched with the Japanese sauce. Whereas the ravioli was huge, and really like dumpling in western cream sauce. My main was wangyu beef and onion with linguine. Again, it looked like another Japanese fusion for me. Yet, really good as the beef with onion was nice and the sauce was enough for the pasta. I could finish the whole dish myself. Also the beef was tender, nice. My dear had lamb shank with cous cous. The lamb shank was fantastic, the big chunks were still nice, the skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. The cous cous was filled with the lamb sauce, very good. In addition, we had the pear tart. It would be better if it was hotter. But the crust was unique when it was of 2 cookies. Topped with vanilla ice cream ... yummy.Besides, you could not imagine the place was filled with high-tea feel tai taissss lolIn addition with tea and coffee, I enjoyed a lovely holiday lunch.…Read More

Here I am, finally.
The Chairman
2010-03-14
I have waited a week to come, thus u know ... I have expectations. We had a 4-course set. 2 appetizers, soup and 2 mains, also ordered desserts. A bowl of rice and con-gee.First with the soup, we only had the same soup as the daily special was out already. Some Chinese fungi, medicine like thing. I was pretty fine with that as it identifies with my father's homemade soup. It liked home soup I could say. But I could pretty sure it was not easily accepted. We had the signature fried fish with vinegar. Yummy. The first dish came nice. I could finish the whole thing without leaving a bone. It was true, well-fried and golden in colour. It was delicious with (balsamic, we thought) vinegar. Another appetizer was the pig's chin with fried tofu. The chin was like hard jelly. I thought the tofu was much nice with the sauce. When the chin was together with tofu, the texture was nice, better than eating separately. The mains: we had sweet sour ribs and pan fried minced pork patty. Sweet and sour ribs was a good choice when it came with rice. The favour was strong and the sauce was superb! The ribs were not small and quite meaty. Not bad to have. Pan fried minced pork patty was ok, not as good as the ribs. Still nice to dip with lime juice. The patty was meaty and the pan fried texture was nice. Sure it was matchy with carbohydrates. Too heavy to eat alone. Dessert time! I had almond soup. While it served in a coffee cup ... you can image how I drink it, haha. But it was more soup like. And the almond favour was good. My dear had the 'flower' and wolf berry ice cream. Em ... ice-cream, the favour was not that strong.Nice decor and good service. So ... we did enjoy the meal and ... were excited to watch Alice in Wonderland, haha.…Read More
