Tea Time House
2009-10-10
used to have a cup of bubble tea almost every other day during my university years in Canada....and have since been searching for a decent tasting cup of bubble tea after returning to HK~friends went to look at DVDs nearby and I was wandering around and spotted this newly opened bbt place ( never noticed its existence coz the spot is always packed with people waiting for mini vans etc.)I initally only wanted to try the original ( pearl milk tea...should be the safest bet on 1st trial)...but the guy (cashier) suggested me (with a very pleasant voice and big smile!) to try their new drink -- red bean milk tea with pearls... so I 've decided to give it a try! I customed ordered my drink : less sweet and "taste upgrade" (I was only joking with him when I was ordering...) ; but he really has noted that on my drink~ (c picture)there was a lil bit of a line up and many ppls waiting for their drinks....staffs were surprisely patient and friendly regardless of the busy working environmentthe 十勝紅豆奶茶 that I've ordered tasted pretty good ( slightly similar to the ones in Canada) but still a tiny bit too sweet for my personal taste (perhaps I should order half sweet next time?) , the amount of red bean given was reasonable, and the pearls were chewy)overall, this tea house is totally worth trying consider the quality of the service and its products....and its location too ofcoz~ Keep it up!…Read More

Cafe Corridor
2009-10-01
I am sure a lot of "open ricers" are a coffee addict like myself~ I drink at least 2 cups of coffee everyday~I have to confess that I usually get my cup of coffee at those chain coffee shops for my own convenience.my friend and I both didnt want to go to those chain cafes (over crowded) that evening so we ve decided to stop by cafe corridor for a cup of coffee. this was my 4th visit to this cafe and i must say it was by far the worst experience ever.we ordered two cups of mocha and scone.we waited for a long time for our drinks to come (the cafe wasn't full at the time) and they even delivered our drinks coffees to the table next to us(who arrived later than us and also ordered 2 mochas).both of our mochas arrived to our table warm and didnt really have a slight taste of chocolate at all.scone was very plain and dry even with the given butter/cream.after having our cups of mocha there that evening, both of us kinda regretted for not getting our cups of coffees at one the regular chain cafes just across the street at Times Square.…Read More

Boblam I do get the long wait and not so good scone but I wonder what is wrong about its mocha. I'm not a mocha fan so I can't comment. Thus, it would be great if you could describe more about the mocha which, to my understand, does not match your requirement, particularly comparing to chain cafe.

strawbeary the mocha lack the taste of chocolate (not even a slight bit)...and thet texture of the milk was a bit different than the ones being served in chain cafes.

Boblam Thks for ur comment, strawbeary. I should start trying this drink.I couldn't tell you about the mocha drink but among the Cappuccino I had on the Hong Kong island side over the past two years, including all chained and Indies, Cafe Corridor/Coffee Assembly consistently comes out one of the best, if not the best, year in year out on its frothed milk. Felix Wong, the proprietor, also teaches latte art for a long while.IMHO, the only one that beats Felix's operation on Hong Kong island is not a cafe, but a custom micro roaster called hkcoffee.com. You can't go in for a cup but just have to drop by to get their coffee beans. If they are not that busy, they can accommodate your drink requirement on a complementary basis (ie no $ involved).

Boblam Among the three cafes I try mocha (I have never ordered this drink before), Cafe Corridor is probably the weakest in the group. It's quite sweet and the chocolate tastes very artificial, likely due to the type of syrup they choose. I couldn't sense the nice texture too.The second best went to Crema Coffee. I like it a lot, a nice balance between bitter and sweet chocolate with its signature velvety milk texture. The best one went to Barista Jam. However, drink here is quite different from the first two in that it's more of an adult version, ie much less sweet and strong chocolate taste. I recommended both Crema Coffee and Barista Jam and think Cafe Corridor needed to improve on the selection of chocolate syrup/power, e*.However, I don't expect to do the follow up as this is really not my type of drink but FYI.

OUTBACK...food digested "through my back"...
Outback Steakhouse
2009-07-24
I have only visited the OUTBACK at cwb but my friend and her 2.5 year old baby girl live in Tai Koo and I did not want her to travel all the way to CWB so we met up at this location.Arrived there around the usual dinner time (7:30pm), only a few tables were occupied.the hostess escorted us to our table and no one has acknowledged our presence until at least 5 minutes later. So the server came, simply left us a couple of menus and WALKED AWAY when she clearly saw my friend's baby still seating in her stroller! We thus had to ask the server for a high chair and I do not know if she suffers from temporary memory loss or what, she did not come back to our table with a booster until we asked her again. Between, the bread turned cold by the time we were settled.I ordered the steak and rib combo and caesar salad and soupmy friend ordered prime rib and salad as well and iced tea.(nothing for the baby?~)we were still having our salad(not even half finished) when the busboy(blue shirt) brought us our steak and rib, so we asked him if we could have them covered with lids or something and his response was"NO, we do not have lids", then he walked away! I was furious! So we asked another server, she took our plates back in the kitchen and the food did not come back to our table after we have finished our salad and we had to sit n wait for quite awhile until their return. . . (the restaurant still remained half empty at the time)....food was average, fries were cold...water has only been refilled once (on request) . When I thought I have already experienced the worst service for that night, the busboy surprised me once more when he brought us the bill....he literally threw the bill on our table(NO THANK YOU OR WHATSOEVER), stood there, gave us several disgusted looks, and waited for us to pay.... I did NOT want to cause a scene and I was a little tired from work already so we paid quickly and left this unfriendly restaurant. the service there was even worse than a cha chan tan or any restaurant that I have visited!!!DEFINITELY WILL NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO VISIT THIS RESTAURANT!…Read More

room for desserts~
agnès b. le pain grillé
2009-07-14
I believe this is the very 1st agnes b. restaurant/cafe that was opened in HK and I still like the vibe of this one regardless of how many people might actually prefer the newly (newer) opened one at IFC.haven't dined here for awhile even though it is in close proximity to my home... plus I do like the desserts by agnes b in general...the bread basket was served warm and the buns were crisp...we ordered a salad, spring chicken, cod fish & desserts!salad: just right, not too much dressing and the spinach has a freshness to itchicken: not bad, a bit too chewy... fish: yummy and has a good textureapple tart: crisp, juicy, has the aroma of caramel applecrepe: so so, a bit bland, and the crepe tasted like it has been pre-made awhile ago...not bad overall...factoring in the quiteness of the dining environment (you know how crowded and noisy some restaurants can get in CWB)~ a good dinning spot for people who would want to enjoy a somewhat decent meal in causeway bay.…Read More

you can never go wrong with chocolate & banana~
Awfully Chocolate
2009-07-12
I have always been a big fan of CHOCOLATE & BANANA desserts and as my birthday is approaching... I got myself another excuse to buy a whole cake home for enjoyment~walked past this cake shop on my way home and decided to get the chocolate banana cake....As usual, it tastes "awfully chocolate" and the cake is moist, topped with soft and smooth chocolate and layered with banana ... However, I find it a little bit too sweet and the banana to be a tiny bit too soggy....Regardless of that, I have just finished the last piece of the cake by myself just a moment ago~ …Read More

BLT steak for the burger, not steak~
BLT Steak
2009-07-08
It wasn't until a lil past 9pm that my friend and I both realized it was time for dinner....or had a sense of hunger....and my friend had craving for american burgers and we just wanted to have a quick bite, we ended up going to BLT Steak. In spite of how quiet the restaurant was last night, no one came to greet us after we entered the restaurant. We had to walk up to one of the servers and ask if we could seat at a table by the windows. We ordered two Wagyu burgers (both at medium rare), cream spinach and grill corn.complimentary salmon appetizer and my favourite thing of all time about this restaurant -cheese popovers that come with a tiny recipe booklet! (slightly crisp on th surface yet soft and warm on the inside)my wagyu beef patty looked medium rare (red to light pink and warm centre) but my friend's looked n tasted like it was medium well done. The fries were very oily and greasy that they turned the paper transparent!cream spinach - not much taste to it (basically, spinach mixed with cream)grill corn - alright, a bit too softThe server(s) were a bit unattentive as we had to asked them twice for some extra ketup and the dessert menu.Overall, the food is alright but there is much more room for improvement in service at this restaurant.…Read More

L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon
2009-07-06
I was shopping with my girlfriends at landmark the other day and we have decided to dine at this restaurant since we have always liked the desserts and pastry there.I have only been to this restaurant in Hong Kong for a handful of times and I must say the quality of their dishes seem to have dropped. I have recently visited europe (namely Paris and London) and dined at the Joel Robuchon restaurants there, I must say the food being served there are much more delicate and flavourful. Thus, considering there are also many other choices of fine dinning restaurants around central, I would probably only visit this restaurant again only for desserts and a quick business lunch.…Read More

HK Epicurus Isn't this eaten at the cheaper Le Salon de The downstairs though? The upstairs proper French Robuchon L'Atelier doesn't serve these dishes from memory, not even in the recent promotional L'Unique menu... Upstairs would cost $1000+ for dinner usually!

strawbeary yeah...u r rite! However, I had also dined at the actual restaurant upstairs... the quality of food is incomparable to the ones in europe.... I am not saying the food is not great at this restaurant in HK but simply not exceptionally good.

HK Epicurus I heard some people say, quality here (upstairs) as gone down a bit from beginning I went there when it first opended with a 'bang'..In fact, even Macau's 3 Star Robuchon is great, but still slightly disappointing in some ways! Europe is somehow better, true!
