Once good...but going way downhill
Al Molo Ristorante Italiano
2014-02-25
This was my 5th or 6th visit to Al Molo. Each time I have eaten there it had been for lunch after shopping in Harbour City. The service at this place had always been rather poor. In fact, I saw a server drop a set of sliverware...only to pick it up, wrap it in a napkin and put it on someones table (actually called that out to the manager when I saw it). Nevertheless...I went back again...When I arrived, I was alone and asked for a table for two. The hostess walked me through the entire restaurant...passing by 4 empty booths to a small table in the back corner of the restaurant. I asked the hostess if the booths I had seen were reserved and she said "yes, reserved" . I asked her if she was sure and if she could check and she replied "ok, check". She walked back into the main part of the restaurant and I followed her. She looked at one of the booths and pointed to it and said "ok, here". Nice touch. She was totally rude...almost wanted to walk out right there. Sat and waited for my gf. She showed up and we ordered calamari and a caesars salad to share. First off- calamari should basically be fried squid. They serve it as a mix of grilled squid and shrimp in some sort of a fishy sauce. Weird and gross. A caesar's salad is pretty easy. Was some lettuce and add caesar's dressing. Not sure why this salad had such an odd taste to it. Had a really weird after taste. We did not finish either appetizer. Sat there for sometime and no one had checked on us and asked if we were finished with our appetizers. I finally had to flag someone down and ask for them to take our dishes away. I ordered a fillet. I'm no chef but feel like I could have pan fried a steak and have it tast better than this thing did. It was just tough and chewy. Not how a fillet should be. Finally when we left, the hostess did not even look up to say goodbye, thank you...or anything at all. Very poor attitudes by most staff memebers. The only two in the place that seemed to have a decent attitude are the two managers. One is Italian and I believe the other is Indian. It's unfortunate that their attitudes do not trickle down to the servers and hostesses in this place. Really not great value for money here either. We had drinks and spent about 500 per head. Expensive lunch! So dissapointing because this was like our default restaurant in TST while shopping or running erands. Guess we will have to find another spot. …Read More

Great Selection of Single Malts!
THE CHINNERY
2014-02-11
Overall very nice experience. I had planned to take my father (who was visiting from the States and asked for a bar with a wide selection of single malts...we are both big scotch drinkers) for a few drinks before dinner but actually ended up eating there...Amazing selection of single malts and blended whiskey's but that's not all. The service was good too. Although the bartender was a bit odd, he knew his scotch and was very friendly. We ended up staying for dinner. I had the fish n' chips and they were about as good as it gets (when it comes to fish n' chips anyway). My girl was with us and ordered a veggie curry that was good too. Great place to hang out, drink and munch on British pub style food. I'll be back!…Read More

Nice View, Good Service
Tosca
2014-02-11
Talk about an amazing view...Too bad that's about the only thing amazing about this place...The food was just alright. I get that it's a modern Italian thing and that it's meant to be served in several small courses but I cannot remember anything memorable about the meal I had there several months ago. Fancy place, amazing view and the service was great (although a bit slow). Nice selection of single malts if you're into scotch. IF you have the money to spend and you want a fancy night out with overpriced food with a great view...give it a shot. If you're looking for an explosion of taste- I'd skip it.…Read More

Italian Omlette!
Life Cafe Restaurant and Bar
2014-01-05
Small unassuming place but good food. I've only eaten breakfast there but it's always been good. The service is good enough but not great. It's such a small place and have never really seen it busy so maybe a bit difficult for me to comment accurately on that. The Italian Omlette is my favorite. Pancakes are good too. Serving sizes are a little small though.…Read More

Lobster & Avocado Sandwhich
The Press Room
2014-01-05
Eaten at the Press Room many times. Great selection and friendly service. The lobster and avocado sandwhich is a must try. The wagyu burger they make is great as well. Done breakfast, brunch and dinner there on multiple occassions and cannot remember having a bad meal once. Only thing is...over the summer ther AC broke and did not get fixed for about 6 weeks or so. Needless to say I had to find a different spot for brunches during those 6 weeks.…Read More

Not a bad but by no means the best place to grab breakfast in that area. Steaks are not great and a little overprice for what they are. Portion sizes are a little small as well. Service is pretty decent, nice atmosphere, clean. Good option for breakast if you're tired of your regular spot and want a change.…Read More

Good Food & Good Service
Oolaa (必列者士街)
2014-01-05
I've eaten at the place numerous times as it's in my neighbourhood. Food is always good, service is reasonably friendly. For some reason, coffee always seems to take forever (in most cases, after breakfast has arrived on the table). A little weird but forgivable. Nice place with lots of space. Friendly hosts. Great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner.…Read More

Excellent food & service!
Linguini Fini
2014-01-03
My girlfriend and I eat at this place on a regular basis. The ServiceNot only is the food great, but the staff is very warm and friendly. We have eating at this place regularly for the past 3 months or so and I honestly cannot remember one occassion where the service was anything but great. It's really not easy to find places with great service like this in HK. This is one of very few I can think of that I would rate as excellent in the service department! The FoodNever once had a bad meal there. I'm from NY and know good Italian when I taste it. The chicken parm is one of my fav's on their menu. The lamb ragu is also very good. I've even been their once for lunch and had their burger...it was a little small but very good. If you want good Italian food with out having to pay a fortune in some BS fancy pants HK restaurant...eat here. …Read More

AWFUL SERVICE!!!
Stables Grill
2014-01-03
My girlfriend and I dined at the Stables Grill on NYE only because we had reservations for the NYE event at the Hullet House...First of all, when I made the reservation by phone- it was not explained clearly that there was a set menu. The main course was steak and my gf is a vegetarian and so that was the first major disspapointment. When we arrived we were seated immediately...only to have no menus available. When I asked for a menu, the server ignored me for a few minutes. I asked a second time- the server came over to the table and threw 1 menu down on the table and dissapeared before either of us were able to ask questions. It was when the server finally decided to come back to the table that it was explained to us that there was a set menu. Nice job guys! The food was awful. First we were served some sort of soup that wreaked of fish. I enjoy seafood...this was just awful soup. Smelled so awful I was only able to take about two spoonfuls before I had to put it down. There was then a salmon dish that was terrible...followed by possibly the worst steak I've had in HK...It was at this point that I had seen/tasted enough. Each course of the meal was thrown on the table as the server shuffled off without a concern as to what he was serving us. After the steak was served I just asked for the check so that we could just go the NYE function next door. TO THE CREDIT OF HULLET HOUSE FOOD AND BEVERAGE: i complained and a very nice general manager of food and beverage came over and asked did his best to make up for the awful meal. He brought my girlfriend a vegetable pasta and only charged us for half the meal. The Stables Grill is a joke. It was much like eating at a local rest. in HK. At least when you eat local food in HK the food is good!! Awful experience and I would never in a million years go back to this place. For the amount of money they were charging to eat at this place, you'd think it was fine dining. Far from it! What a joke!…Read More
