Extremely rude -never come here
Fung Lum
2022-12-27
Came here to try have lunch for birthday but ended up leaving furious with the service The waitress who was in charge of calling tickets would not let us in even though it was our turn, and then 3 minutes later claimed we had ‘missed our ticket’ even though the next ticket had not been called. Then she proceeded to tell us to get a new ticket and wait again.. which makes no sense because our ticket never passed. Absolutely terrible service with awful attitude. Terrible food. …Read More

Great siu mei at a great pricepoint!
Gwing Kee Restaurant (Kwan Shing Building)
2022-10-31
Their hand-shredded chicken has been a go-to favourite meal of mine, so I decided to try their takeaway siu mei sets which were priced at a very reasonable $98 for 2 styles of siu mei. The char siu was very juicy and rich in flavour, and was well balanced with the pork fat although there were a few pieces that had more fat than meat. However, the sheer amount of charsiu was enough for many meals (as pictured) For the white chicken, I picked a sand-ginger flavor and it was just as delicious! The chicken was note dry at all and complemented a bowl of warm rice perfectly. The set includes half a chicken as well, which again was a huge amount for the price you're paying. Overall, great siu mei for a great price. Would definitely come here again to get takeaway sets!…Read More

We ordered the lunch set and went in at 1:30 on a weekday so we were able to get a seat without a queue. The lunch set course consisted of 6 items; starting with two small appetizers. 1. AppetizersThe first dish was two plums served in a skewer, lathered with a very concentrated tomato foam, followed by a Japanese clam miso soup; serving as a nice refresher before the entree. The tomato foam was very fresh and sweet, and complimented nicely with the sour plums. 2. Dry-aged Beef Tartare The next starter was a beef tartare, which we were absolutely blown away by. The restaurant incorporates a lot of dry-ageing during the processing of their meats; concentrating the flavour exponentially. The depth of the flavour of the meat was complemented by the small slices of pears within the tartare, making it a truly well-rounded dish.3. Dry-aged swordfish, in sea urchin sauceThe next dish was a dry-aged swordfish, lathered in a sea urchin sauce and served with some baby spinach. Once again, the dry-ageing really brought out the flavour of the fish, along with the sheer thickness of the fish that was served created a very satisfying bite.4. Grilled Chicken in Spicy Miso Sauce w/ Charcoal Infused Mashed Potatoes The chicken with mashed potatoes was next, served with a delightful spicy miso sauce. The sauce was truly the MVP of the dish, accentuating the flavours of both the chicken and the mashed potatoes. We were also impressed by the creaminess of the mash and the aroma of the butter, which meshed well with the other parts of the dish.5. Snow crab w/ soup noodles The last of the "mains" was a plant-based soup noodle dish, garnished with a few generous spoonfuls of fresh snow crab. It was a relatively light finish to our lunch course, which had a nice contrast against the strong flavours in the previous few courses.6. Panna Cotta w/ Strawberry SauceThe dessert was a panna cotta with strawberry sauce, served with a raspberry on top. A good sweet treat that highlighted the end of the lunch course, which we thought was truly a fine-dining lunch set presented at a very affordable price.Overall, it was a great lunch option and we were completely blown away by the dry aged beef tartare! Staff were really friendly and willing to explain each dish and cook in front us to ensure the food was served in its best condition!…Read More

Authentic Indonesian Food!
Pandan Leaf Indonesian Restaurant
2021-11-19
We wanted to try some authentic Indonesian food and was recommended by one of our friends to come here. Needless to say, we were not disaapointed at all! We ordered 2 mains, 1 snack platter, and 2 drinks between 2 people. Retrospectively, we would've ordered much less as the mains themselves were actually huge and we couldn't finish the snack platter as we were so stuffed. 1. Turmeric fried fish with rice and vegetables $118The fish in this dish was massive, and was freshly fried and extremely crispy. The natural texture of the fish leans towards the dry side, but even after frying, the fish remained succulent and was extremely aromatic. There were many variations of this fried fish dish on the menu, but we chose this one as this had more side snacks. Overall, very worth it for the price and very filling, even for 1 person!2. Indonesian super star Assorted rice $78 This dish was also massive, and for someone who rarely eats Indonesian food, this gave us a good variety of different popular items on the menu. The 4 items included sardine fish, rendang beef, pandan chicken, and a side of vegetable salads. It was a good dish as we got to try different flavours, although our favourite was definitely the rendang beef. The beef was very soft and tender, and packed spices of flavour. Highly reccomend if you can't decide which meat you wish to try and want to try it all!3. Indonesian snack platter $88 This contained fried tofu (x2), fried chicken (x2), chicken wings (x2), okra (x3), bean cake (x2). The first dish we had ordered had actually come with a few of these snacks already, so if you order that then you may not need to order this. Our favourite was the fried okra as that was very unique, and the fried chicken as it was so tender and juicy. Great to order with friends!4. Indonesian coffee and glass jelly in ice $38 This was a recommend drink to us, and we were pleasantly surprised! The coffee was not bitter or sour, and paired well with the grass jelly. however, the grass jelly was more tough than the usual slippery texture of chinese grass jelly. 5. Avocado smoothie $48This was extremely filling and very refreshing to drink. The drink was completely green, and the avocado taste was there. However, if you're looking for a smoothie with the richest avocado taste, this may not be for you. Overall, very worth the value and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try Indonesian food!…Read More

Burgeroom (Fashion Walk)
2021-11-16
We had previously tried the burger room branch in TST, which had been a good lunch location, so we tried the CWB branch this time too. 1. Truffle Cheese Portobello Burger $130 This was such a delight to eat! The portobello mushroom was extremely juicy and flavourful, and paired with their sauce, it was scrumptious. The burger patty itself was also very meaty, and was not dry at all. However, because the burger was so tall it was quite difficult to eat without make a mess or spilling the contents. The truffle taste was also there, and complimented well with the burger. 2. Soft Shell Crab Burger $108 This burger was much easier to eat and was very clean. The soft shell crab was freshly fried, with a very crispy outer texture. For its price, it is affordable but we would recommend you splurge on the truffle cheese burger instead 3. Rose Cappuccino (Part of the lunch set, +$30 for fries and drink)For all burgers, during lunch you can +$30 for fries and a drink. We ordered a rose cappuccino as this was a relatively rare flavour we didn’t see often in other coffee shops. The rose taste really shone through, and did not overpower the bitterness of coffee either. Overall, highly recommend 4. Hazelnut Chocolate (Lunch Set) This had less hazelnut flavour than expected and tasted more like sweet chocolate milk. Not bad, but not too special. Would recommend other coffee drinks instead. Overall, would recommend this place to anyone looking for a burger place with lots of different burger choices with fresh ingredients! …Read More

New Hogology Location!
Hogology (Caroline Hill Road)
2021-10-26
When we found out that the old hogology in central had moved to CWB, we decided to eat it again for lunch since we were in the area! The queue was relatively long for a 1pm Saturday, and we had to wait around 20 minutes for a table (they only let you in once everyone is present). We decided to get one of their new dishes, a white pepper soup based noodle with pork chop, and ordered another favourite from last time:1. White pepper soup noodle + fried pork chop $64 The white pepper soup was very mild, and definitely less spicy than expected. This would be great for those who want a little bit of kick of spice in their food without the flaming hotness of chili peppers. When paired with their freshly fried pork chop, the spice balanced the crunchiness of the pork very well. Overall, the noodles were okay, the soup was more on the mild side, but the large portion of fried pork really was the highlight! We love the freshly fried pork chop at hogology, which made the wait worth it. 2. Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice with Fried Pork Chop $60We had also ordered this exact dish last time! It was really great that we decided to give it an encore. The portions are quite large, and if you eat minimally, we recommend you ask for less rice. The pork chop was again fried so freshly and the crispness was so satisfying to eat. The meat was not dry at all and was very juicy. The frying batter is not too thick, which would take away from the eating experience. The braised pork was a very good companion to the rice, without being overly oily or fatty. Would highly recommend this dish!3. Fried Shrimp (Snack) $28 We wanted to try some other snacks since last time we just ordered some extra eggs. The batter on the shrimp was slightly thicker than on the pork, and the shrimp taste was slightly masked by the fry batter. However, this was also freshly fried, and the crunch paired with the dipping sauce was really good! 4. Ginger honey tea (+$6)Slightly too sweet for our liking, but the drink definitely packed a punch of ginger spice! There were many spices of fresh ginger in the drink, which can warm up anyone on a cold winter day! We highly recommend hogology for anyone who loves fried food, especially fried pork chop! This place provides good quality pork chop for a good price…Read More

Great summer food option!
Pickabowl (荃新天地2)
2021-06-09
Seeing as the weather in HK has been so hot recently, we really just wanted something cool and chill for our taste buds, and what better summer meal is there than a poke bowl? Poke bowls are nutritiously dense and are jam packed with clean, healthy foods. We chose to eat at pickabowl because they have such a huge variety of toppings to pick from and their prices don't break the bank! 1. Victoria Secret $79 + Avocado $12 + Tandoori Chicken Breast $18 This had a tuna poke with a beetroot veggie combo base. It was extremely fresh and all the flavours meshed very well together when eaten cold on a hot summer day. The tuna was soft fresh, and did not taste sour at all. There was a lot of beetroot, and paired with the red kidney beans and rice, it was quite filling! We both added avocado to our bowl, and the avocado portion was larger than expected, as it was almost half of a regular avocado! The avocado was rich and ripe, and added a lot of good fats to the bowl. I also added half a portion of chicken breast for extra protein. The chicken breast was slightly dry, but the sauce was still very flavourful. 2. DIY Bowl $86 + Avocado $12 + Shrimp $18 For the toppings, we picked the wasabi vegetable based and salmon and tuna as the two meats. The wasabi topping was quite unexpectedly moist and as the wasabi sauce had a similar taste and texture to salad dressing mixed in with mild wasabi. There were edamame bits and also some onion pieces, which gave the dish a nice crunch. The shrimp we got as an extra topping was delicious and very fresh and crispy, and complimented well with the wasabi vegetable base…Read More

Goobne Chicken (The Hart)
2021-06-04
After trying out Goobne last time, we wanted to eat at the restaurant again but try different dishes out this time! Between the 2 of us, we ordered 1 plate of chicken and 1 main course (rice). Both of them were great but we really loved the chicken!1. Honey Alio Chicken $205 We had previously tried the popular honey curry chicken, but we saw that there was a new item on the menu and it was honey and garlic and it sounded too good not to try! We ordered the bone-in version. Again, there were so so many pieces per plate, and we couldn't even finish it! The chicken skin was crispy and well baked, and the aroma of the fried garlic complimented the mild sweetness of the honey perfect. There was a good variety of meat, including drumsticks and ribs. 10/10 would recommend this! We definitely think order 2 dishes would be sufficient to share between 3 people, as we still had left overs to take home to eat. 2. Shrimp Bacon Fried Rice $128 This was also very nice, albiet slightly heavy when paired with the melted cheese. The portion was very large, and sufficient for 2-3 people. The rice did not feel oily or dry at all, and was well seasoned. The shrimp was fresh and crisp but there weren't that many pieces in the entire fried rice.  However, compared to the rose temptteokbokki last time, we enjoyed that one more than this fried rice. The stringy cheese around the rice also tasted very nice, though we would recommend you eat this dish as soon as it's served as the cheese solidifies quite quickly once it's cooler. Overall, lovely experience at Goodbne yet again and we will be back! Can not recommend the chicken enough! …Read More

Freshly made fried pork chop!
Hogology (Wellington Street)
2021-05-20
We were looking at openrice to find some affordable casual places to dine in central and we were surprised when we came across such an adorable dinner set! Although the menu didn’t look particularly special, we were both blown away by how fresh and crispy the pork cutlets were. We ordered 2 different mains + soy bean drink (+$10) 1. Pork Chop (Meat Sauce) $60The pork was freshly fried and extremely crispy, and the meat was also tender and juicy. The Taiwanese braised pork was also extremely flavourful and did not feel too oily or fatty, and was a great compliment to the dish. The egg was normal, nothing special or bad to say. Overall, this was a great meal and would come back again for this! 2. Pork Chop w/ Scallion $64Again, the pork was very freshly fried and crispy and juicy and tender. The scallions were also grassy and fresh, which paired well with rice. However, we both preferred the Taiwanese braised pork over the scallion oil version. Overall, worth a try if you love scallion oil. Drinks - soya bean milk +$10We didn’t know it would be a bottled drink, but we were happy to know that it was from a good reputable brand! Overall would come here again 😍…Read More

Great flavourful tea! <3
NUTTEA (葵涌廣場)
2021-04-29
This is our second time purchasing from NUTTEA, and when we passed by it during our street food sweep, we knew it was the perfect drink to accompany our food trip! We ordered one of our favourites and tried another new drink1. Earl Grey Tea w/ Chocolate Nut Cream $47 We had tried this last time and even though the nut cream is quite filling and sweet, we really wanted to order this again. We also added extra toppings (+4) which were a healthier alternative to boba, but still gave it a good chewy texture. The cream layer was rich in hazelnut and very decadent! We loved the perfect balance between the foam and cocoa, which had a good bitter-sweet balance. The earl grey tea itself was great and tasted freshly brewed. 2. Mango Nut Mylk $43 This was a great drink for HK's hot summer! We would describe this more as a mango slushie with nut milk, as the mango was very cold and quite refreshing. The mango was freshly juiced and was not sour at all! We loved it very much, and it was a great try for anyone who loves mango and slushies. Overall, would recommend to people who like slushie-textured drinks. We will definitely continue to support this chain elsewhere as well! The staff were very friendly and the uniqueness of the nut based tea makes this company a sure winner!…Read More

Great crispy baked chicken!
Goobne Chicken (瓊華中心)
2021-04-21
We had heard many great things about Goobne Chicken and we finally decided to try it for ourselves! My partner had been to Goobne many times previously but it was my first time so we decided to pick one classic recommended dish and one unique dish. We ordered 2 things between 2 people, but there was such a large amount of chicken that we had to bring it back home for another meal! 1. Honey and Curry Basasak Chicken $215 This was the most highly rated chicken on open rice and also one of the most recommended by our friends! Even though $215 may seem strangely expensive for chicken, it is definitely for good reason at Goobne! There were over 15+ pieces of large pieces of chicken, ranging from thighs to breast to ribs - all of them were very flavourful and well marinated. The skin was very crispy and felt so much healthier than fried chicken, but still gave you that same satisfaction of eating crispy chicken skin. The honey was not overly sweet and complimented the curry's arouma. The curry was not spicy nor was it overpowering, and even though I had never though of honey and curry to be a good savoury combination, it was a delightful surprise when the chicken was so good! Overall, we would definitely get this again2. Rose tteokbokki $145This was a unique take on tteokbokki and because we love red sauces, we knew we had to order this! It was very rich and creamy, though the cream was not too heavy and did not feel too fattening. To describe it simply, the taste is similar to that of mixing tomato paste with heavy cream + herbs. If you enjoy this kind of flavour profile, then this dish is definitely for you! It was a very good main dish to accompany the chicken we had, as it balanced out the sweetness of the honey chicken with the rich tanginess of the tomato/rose sauce. The portion was also quite large, even after we shared it between 2 people. Would definitely order this again! …Read More

Another visit to tapa room!!
Tapa Room
2021-01-20
When we found out that a new Tapa Room had opened near us, we were so excited to try it out as it was in a much more convenient location for us than the other two branches. We had dined in the other two branches before and has a positive experience, so we wanted to try the new branch out as well. Unlike the other branches, there was a TST special menu, which offered special variations of their other classic tapas from the original menu. We ordered 3 cold tapas, 2 hot tapas, 1 main, and 2 drinks to share between 2 people.1. Octopus Carpaccio w/ Sea Grapes $98We had previously tried the other octopus carpaccio from the kwun tong branch, but there were no sea grapes on that one, and we decided to order this dish again since it was a TST special. The sauce for the octopus was packed with spices and had a tangy taste, and the sea grapes added an interesting texture that had little particles popping open in your mouth like fish roe. However, the dish was overall slightly salty, which lowered our impression of it. 2. Foie Gras Lollipop w/ Sake $98 Again, we had tried this in the Kwun Tong branch but this time the TST branch decided to add sake with this cold tapa, which we thought was a great idea! The foie gras lollipops were rich and creamy, and the pistachio bits added a nutty freshness. The server recommended that we drink the sake after eating the lollipop and this helped to wash down any lingering taste residue of the foie gras before eating other tapas. The sake itself was warm, and was of good quality, and was not pungent or burn your throat. Overall, we enjoyed this TST special cold tapa. 3. Cold cut Platter Jamon, Manchego Cheese $88This cold platter consisted of Jamon (ham), cheese, and slices of pear. The sweetness of the pear complimented well with the Jamon, and the cheese was rich and also paired well with the Jamon. Overall, this was a good cold cut platter as a side dish, especially when paired with alcohol. 4. Spanish Potato Omelette w/ Cod Roe $98We had tried this at kwun tong and cwb before, but tst decided to add a new twist to the potato omelette by adding pockets of cod roe into the omelette! When we cut into it, the pockets of cod roe oozed out from without and were a delightful experience to eat. However, since some bits of omelette would contain more cod roe than others, some bites ended up quite salty. Overall, the cod roe added an interesting salty flavour to the omelette, but we both definitely preferred the original omelette without it! Nonetheless, it was worth trying. 5. Grilled Red Prawns $88 Really flavourful prawns, which were crisp and fresh. All of the prawns were very large in size, and the plethora of herbs used to season the shell of the prawns complimented well with the freshness of the shrimp. However, do note that they were quite messy and difficult to eat as some of the meat would be stuck on the shell. Overall, good hot tapa to share. 6. Iberco Pork Chop in Sherry Vinegar Gravy (Medium Well) $158 This was definitely the biggest surprise of all the dishes ew tried that day! Neither of us are huge pork fans, but the waiter recommended this to us so we decided to try it since we had previously tried the steak and the paella at different branches already and wanted to try a different main course. The portion was very big, and the pork was very very tender! It was not chewy at all, nor were the fibers of the pork hard to chew on. The glazing was a mixture of sweet and saltiness, and tasted slightly sweeter than we had imagined. The potatoes that came with the pork were also amazing, with a crisp outer edge and soft core that paired so well with the pork and the sangria we had ordered. Overall, this was our favourite dish of the day so we highly reccomend it! 7. Drinks Red and white Sangria $60 eachAfter trying the white sangria and loving it so much last time, we decided to order a red and a white to compare to see which one we'd like more. To our delight, both of them were very good - the white pulled slightly sweeter, though the red was not bitter not did it have that bitterness of poor quality wine. They were of a great size to compliment us throughout the entire dining experience, and paired amazingly with all the tapas, especially those that were slightly saltier. 10/10 would recommend these drinks! …Read More

Great price for friendly Japanese food!
IKKYU Japanese Causal Restaurant (38 Plaza)
2021-01-08
We wanted to try a local Japanese restaurant in Mong Kok when we stumbled upon this restaurant. The menu had a plethora of choices which gave us plenty to choose from! We ordered 1 main each, a few pieces of sushi to share, and a fugu side side to share. All of the dishes were very filling and great, and worth its price! 1. Shrimp ramen in black garlic oil $68The soup base was surprisingly flavourful and didn't taste like it relied on msg for flavour! The flavour was good, and the black oil gave it a strong aroma. The noodles were good ramen noodles, not overly soft or undercooked. The best surprise of this ramen had to be in the shrimp, as there were more than 7 shrimps in the bowl of noodles. All of them were fresh, not from frozen, and had a very crisp texture.  Overall, a good choice for a simple meal! 2. Beef steak in stone pot $69 We were surprised by how tender and soft the beef bits were! The beef was cooked through, but was not too tense or hard to chew through, and had a strong taste of bell peppers that were infused with the rice as well. The portion was very big, definitely enough for 2 people who don't eat too much. The bell peppers were sweet and crispy, and worked well with the pot rice. 3. Flying fish roe sushi $ 24 We were surprised by how the sushi were all freshly made! The seaweed was still crisp when the dish arrived, and the roes were still plump and had a good texture. Overall,  better than conveyor belt sushi. 4. California Uni ($38) and Fish sushi ($20) They ran out of japanese uni, so we opted to try for californian uni instead. Though it was more expensive, coming at a steep price of $38 for one piece, the uni was fresh and did not taste stale or have the cheaper kind of 'fridge-taste'. Good sushi pieces overall4. Fugu $58Admittedly, the price was slightly steep for the quantity and quality, but it was an excellent savory snack. The piece was well marinated and would pair great with alcohol at night! …Read More

So nutty! Extremely aromatic 💛
NUTTEA (旺角中心第一座)
2021-01-08
As an Asian who loves milk tea, sometimes it’s hard to find something that is compatible with lactose intolerance :( luckily our friends recommend us this chain of ‘NUTTEA’ and we fell in love with it!! All their fruit teas are made freshly squeezed ingredients, and all the nut tea cream based drinks had such a strong almond/cashew milk flavour that we were blown away by the quality! We ordered 2 drinks, both warm:1. Earl Grey Tea w/ Chocolate Nut Cream When we saw that this was their best seller and only 100 cups are made per day, we knew we had to try it! We added some chewy bits 寒冬 which is a healthier alternative to typical tapioca boba balls (+$4). The cream layer was so decadent and rich - there was a good balance of foam and cocoa flavour and a tinge if saltiness to counterbalance the sweetness of the chocolate. The earl grey tea base itself was rich and not overly sweet (we ordered 30% sugar), and when paired with the cream foam layer, it was such an indulgence! 10/10 would recommend! 2. Taro Nut MylkThe second cup we got was also such a show stopper! This didn’t have a tea base but the taro was blended with the nut milk to create a lovely flavour profile that was rich but not too sweet. It reminded us a lot like Chinese desserts, but less sweet, so if you like traditional Chinese sweets this may be for you! Since we ordered it in hot, we were told it would be more viscous than a cold one. In fact, this was so viscous that it felt like a full meal! If you normally don’t eat too much but want something healthy and filling to substitute for a meal - this is for you!! Overall, 10/10 would come back again. The staff were very friendly and the uniqueness of the nut based tea makes this company a sure winner! …Read More

Decent thai food!
Sun Thai Restaurant (Ma On Shan Plaza)
2020-11-09
Our friends had recommended this place to us for a decent chain restaurant of thai food, so we decided to try it out for dinner since we were nearby. We ordered 2 main dishes and a snack to share between 2 people, and the portions were very filling! 1. Pineapple fried rice $118 This rice portion was around 1.5-2 portions, and had a plethora of ingredients to complement the rice. There was a sweetness brought by the pineapple and the raisins, and the mixture of peas and pork floss gave a good savory profile. There were also plenty of cashews, which really added to the texture integrity and crunch of the dish. The fried rice was not overly oily and was satisfying. However, there were only 2 shrimps in the entire fried rice. Overall, might get this again, a 7/10 2. Laksa noodles $78This was a standard size portion for one, though the bowl was very massive for the amount of noodles. If you like strong coconut milk or earthy profile laksa noodles, this may not be the one for you. However, it was unique and not spicy at all, which would be great if you dislike spice. The soup base was not too salty and would not leave you feeling thirsty or dehydrated after eating it. There was a lot of soup, which made it more worth its price. Overall, 7/10 3. Skewer platter (Pork, Beef, Chicken) $88There were 2 of each, so a total of 6 skewers. The portion size was reasonable for its price. Of the 3 types of meat skewers, our favourite was the pork, as there was a textural munch to it whilst not being too tough to the bite. The chicken was very tender, but in our opinion was not as good as the pork. The satay sauce was very rich in peanut tastes, and was not spicy at all. Overall, 7/10 and we would probably get this again…Read More
