Hooray!
Hooray Bar & Restaurant
2013-05-27
Its my best friends birthday diner and I picked Hooray because she loves eating outdoor. The good thing was that the place was much bigger than I expected, the food was a little bit over seasoned overall but we loved it, while the service was great.we ordered one soup, 2 pastas and 2 more main courses. The soup was better than it looked, although theres not enough fennel in it the sweetness of zucchini balanced well with the natural brackish taste of the clam. Slow cooked wagyu cheek was tender, if it was soft cannelloni then it would be perfect. The sea salt spring chicken was a little over seasoned outside, but it was baked perfectly browned and crispy. Ritatoni was not chewy enough, but the pasta sauce with Napoli tomatoes with mozzarella was unparalleled. The best among all was the squid ink spaghetti, regardless of the rough presentation of the dish the pasta was absolutely al dante, eating this squid ink pasta was like eating fresh squid. Girls love dessert but we were too full for even a sweet dishes with 5 people. The prices are reasonable, service was nicely placed, portions are relatively big, with this gorgeous harbor view I will definitely return. …Read More

great service - just a bit too salty!
Café de Coral
2013-05-22
It has been quite a long time since i had food from cafe de coral! I am too lazy to go outside for lunch today (esp in the rainy season in HK) i decided to grab a rice box from Cafe de coral. The line up at the cashier is very long and it's always packed with people during the peak hours! I am actually quite impressed by the service people at Cafe de coral (no matter from the cleaning ladies, cashier or the chefs at the counter) they always greet you with smiles! It's quite rare to find service like that even in high end restos....I ordered the BBQ rice box to go - HKD35 per box of course i wont expect too much! However, the chef at the BBQ station was so friendly and he asked me if i want more sauce or less sauce on the rice box The BBQ pork is okay except it's a little bit dried on the surface - The BBQ sauage is a bit better than what i expected as it's still warm and crisy! The soy sauce chicken taste a little bit too salty and i had to remove the skin (normally i wont remove the skin when i am having chicken wings) The salted egg again is quite salty (well i understand that it's a salted egg but the taste of the saltiness is very appealing when it's mixed together with the soy sauce in the rice. Normally i love to eat 薑蔥 but i had to give up because the rice box combination is a bit too much! Overall i dont think the rice box is bad (except for the saltiness) - For a rice box priced at HKD35 with vegetable, bbq pork sausage, chicken and etc...plus the excellent and very welcoming service! I think it's worth it especially i dont need to walk under the rain …Read More

ALL about meat :)
Blue Butcher Bar & Restaurant
2013-05-21
Just had a great dinner at Blue Butcher with my wonderful girlfriend last week!I have to say that Blue butcher is a very great place for steaks especially for meat lovers like us!Just the two of us, we ordered a lamb chop, M8 Waygu steak and a spring chicken to share (we were so hungry after a crazy day of singing karaokate..haha) The service staff was so friendly and reminded us that it might be too much to try all the heavy meat at once - But, it's okay - we can handle it!The dishes came after 25 minutes --1) The lamb chop is very nice with minimal marination - we really love the mushroom sauce and it taste very fine with some cheese sprinkles on top!2) The spring chicken is marinated perfectly with the home made herbs! The chicken skin is very crispy outside while the meat itself is very tender and well prepared! we just love it! However, it seems that there are too much onions and garlics added to the chicken which makes the dish a bit too "over" as the chicken itself is pretty fresh already! 3) The steak - the steak is just grilled prefectly fine (i love medium rare steaks) - With a little bit of seasalt added to the steak, it induce the freshness of the steak which no additional sauce is necessary for it! However, i would recommend that the presentation of the steak could be a little bit more fancy.....rather than just a pc of steak being placed on the wooden pad.Overall the service of the resto is very welcoming and friendly - The staff kept on asking how's the food and refilling our water which makes our dining experince very enjoyable! …Read More

Lovely seafood lunch!
Inakaya
2013-05-20
It was my first time to dine at ICC's building - My friend suggested to try "Inakaya" as she knew that i love Japanese food so much (usually i just do my shopping at Elements but dont know much about ICC....) When we arrived to the restaurant, the receptionist brought us to a very nice table near by the window! I have to say that the view from ICC is so good! A girl gave us two menus and served us hot tea - But i have to say that one of the menu cover is quite dirty with soy sauce (sorry to say but i dont expect such high class restaurant to use dirty menus..) Anyway, let's ignore that part and we ordered one teppanyaki seafood set and one sushi & udon set.We were served the "Milk tofu" as the appetizer - Personally i don't really like milk but i have to admit that the texture of the tofu is very soft. Our sets arrived after 10 minutes - The sushi set comes with 7 types of sushi and a tuna roll with udon and miso soup! While my teppanyaki prawn arrived first! I took one of the tuna roll from my friend's plate ( i love tuna rolls) and it's delicous! The prawn is very juicy and fresh! I didn't even need to use the teppanyaki sauce to go with the prawn! The second course of my set is teppanyaki Abalone - the texture of the abalone is a bit chewy (but my friend didnt think so?) but the favour of the abalone is quite nice (plus not oily too!) My last course came and it was a cod cooked with two clams - I have to say that this is my favorite dish as the cod fish matches very well with the onion sauce! I can say that it's the best ever cod fish i had so far! I could finish the whole dish and even drank all the onion soup from the pot. The clams are very fresh too! I wouldn't mind to have a bigger portion of the fish as it's so delicous!! The seafood set finishes with the teppanyaki fried rice - the fried rice is not too oily only that the portion is a bit too big after the seafood courses. I tried some of the udon noodles from my friend's dish - I think the udon is a bit too soaky (maybe we left it to the very end) but the soup base is very fine and has a very fresh taste of dried bonito fish. I would suggest not to serve the udon together with the sushi set together!I will definitely bring my girlfriends back to Inakaya for dinner next time - Would love to try their robatayaki which i heard from the service team that they are only available at night time!…Read More

Food ok, service ok but very very noisy!
Greyhound Café (海運大廈)
2013-05-18
It was my good friend's birthday and she likes Thai food so much! My friend suggested to go to Greyhound Cafe at Harbour City as it's a good location for everyone (we all live in Kowloon side) and we can do some shopping before the dinner starts! When we arrived the restaurant, the staff was quite friendly and offered us the sofa table in semi-open area. Just when i sat down on the sofa side, i found that it's very noisy as there were children playing in the shopping mall area and shoppers wandering around in the shopping mall. Ok, let's ignore that part and we decided to look through the menu to try sth nice The pictures on the menu look quite delicous and we ended up ordered four dishes for two people - Papaya Salad, Minced pork with cheese pizza (forgot the name), home made bacon and egg fried rice and pad tai. The papaya salad arrived first and it taste very nice with some chopped bacon and sliced apple! However, the portion of the salad is quite small and we could finish it in just two seconds Later on, the pad tai and fried rice came together at the same time - The pad tai taste just fine as it's not too oily and the shrimps are quite big and juicy too! The fried rice is a bit less than what we expected - It had a sunny side egg on top of the rice (which it looks very home made) The taste is not bad though...only it's a bit salty! At last, the pizza came at the end - The presentation of the dish on the menu looks nicer than the actual product! The taste -- The covering of the pizza is quite oily and they didnt put enought cheese inside (maybe?) which the whole dish is very dried and don't have much taste. I will not recommend to order this dish if i come here next time. While we are having our dinner, i realized that the restaurant is very very noisy no matter it's from the shopping mall's side or from the inside. I this this place is for causal dining but definitely not a good place for friend's gatering.…Read More

Nice restaurant renovation but not food
SHANGHAI POPO 336 (iSQUARE)
2013-05-14
My very best friend come back from Japan last week and we decided to have a quick lunch at i square before the movie time.we saw that there's a new restaurant on level 6 called 上海婆婆 - The renovation of the resto is very nice and unqiue. Plus, the receptionist is very friendly and kept on introducing the menu to us. We decided to go and have a try!We were offered a table at the semi sofa area while i requested for the seat at the sofa area for two people. The staff there said the resto is fully booked and we had to share the semi sofa table with two other strangers, which is completely fine as it's they said that someone has already booked the table with the two separate sofas. The restaurant is around 60% occuplied at that time.We decided to order something from the set lunch menu (炸醬麵 + xiao long bao) and (dan dan noodles + dumplings) - we waited for almost 10 minutes to find someone to take the order for us (however, there are around 6 floor staffs at that time, some floor staffs said that they dont take order and had to wait some senior staffs to take our order. Which, is also completely ok. One senior staff came to our table and fianlly got the order from us. while i was talking to my friend, an old lady threw a dish of sweet and sour pork on our table (why i said threw..is because she just physically THREW the plate to our table) I told thme that i did not order the sweet and sour pork, the lady said "HA? i donno i got the order and it's table no. 3). Well, i dont care if it's table 3 or not, but i didn't order. Then, one senior staff took back to sweet and sour pork dish to the kitchen and said sorry to us. After 2 minutes, we said that the same dish of sweet and sour pork has been served to another table which is 3 tables away from us. Ok, finally, our xiao long bao arrived first - the meat is quite juicy but the coverings of the xiao long bao is a bit thick. Overall, the taste is ok. Then, our noodles came -- it really surprised me that the 炸醬麵 has no taste at all! The texture of the noodles is good, but i don't understand why the 炸醬麵 has no taste (simply, is just some minced pork combined with some sliced cucumber) Then, my friend ordered a dan dan noodles, Again, the dan dan noodles look very watery and it has no taste at all! The restaurant is called 上海婆婆 but i don't understand why such two simple dishes can taste so bad? The portion of the dishes are very small which is not enough to fill our stomach! Ok, then we waited for the dumplings. for almost 45 minutes after we finished everything - i asked one of the staff, where's our dumpling? The girl (maybe some part time) told us, "what dumping? I don't know....." and simply just took the tray away without giving us an answer! This is totally unacceptable and funny to us! At last, the dumpling came after 50 minutes, the taste is quite good...but i am sorry, i wont come back again just for one dish of dumpling! When i asked for the bill (as we do not want to stay here anymore), another girl said "HA? 你講乜話?" okok i admited maybe i don't speak loud enough - but pls, dont be so rude to yoru customers! Overall, except for the dumpling and the receptionist, there's nth much good about 上海婆婆!…Read More
