ThiCC PanCAKE
Yukinoshita
2019-11-09
Yare yare daze,So. I first came to Yukinoshita 11 months ago when I had a certain craving for thicker pancakes. I was not impressed at all:It was packed with customers.Pancakes were bland. We had to wait 30 minutes. This time? The place is nearly empty.Service was quicker and friendlier.Pancakes came nearly immediately. It was good. Why?These bad boys are thick. Actually no, they’re *THICC*. The density and texture is a cross between a gourmet doughnut or a western layer cake BUT the taste isn’t overpowering.I had the signature Mandarin Honey Pancake. The batter is simultaneously soft and fluffy, despite the thickness of it - well crisped edges and ameliorated by a well measured amount of honey and butter. Perfect proportions. Exacerbated by a delicious cup of matcha milk. A must have. 10/10 boyzzzz. My partner got the matcha pancake, this paled in comparison to the OG best waifu, honey pancake-chan. But potentially best girl #2 (or #3 I’ve heard stellar tings about the dark chocolate pancake). She was soft but a little over cooked on the surfaces, the black beans were a bland and unneeded addition to the green tea flavouring. I felt that the cream was a the perfect touch this needed, but the experience would have been elevated by SMIDGE of MATCHA BUTTER CREAM (can you imagine this would be the final boss to end all bosses) and red azuki bean. A solid 7/10. And that dank ass green tea milk?? Oof can I get a yeet haw for qualiTEA…Read More

Rempah Noodles
2019-10-31
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much for the noodles part of rempah noodles. The instagram circus that had been kicked up over this place was pertaining to the kaya toast.I had never heard of ‘dry laksa’, and every self respecting singaporean I’ve asked after concerning what this mysterious dish is reacting with horror. One even went as far as to say “sounds like depression”. I tried the dish nonetheless. and It was: depression. The condiments used to pepper my dry laksa was overpowering, I was eating bitter grass - coriander. My friend, who ordered the nonya laksa was perfectly happy with her soupy spicy broth. However, this was all remedied by the delicious and generous portion of kaya they served. …Read More

Mash Potato Smooth
Dood Bottega Gelateria
2019-10-20
When in Milan, an Italian described the textured composition of the ‘perfect’ Gelato: “It should be as smooth as mashed potatoes...the flavor of the ice cream should be so potent that there is no doubt that it comes from the earth and not the machine”.Doods’ served me cold mashed potatoes. It was delicious. I picked the pistachio flavor - which in my gelato tasting opinion - the quickest way to test how artificial an parlour’s ingredients are. Typically you can taste the overly saturated fake candy flavor, but it seems as though this was made with real pistachios. I am most impressed!! My mother went for the white Japanese peach flavor. She is not easily impressed by well, anything. But both her and my father loved their respective ice creams!…Read More
