Consistently delightful!
BRICK LANE Gallery
2014-01-14
This is one of my favourite places to go to for an authentic British dining experience! The standout dish here is the irresistable Eggs Benedict! It always has faultless runny egg yolks, wonderfully made hollandaise sauce, delightful smoked salmon (my favourite filling), and heavenly toasted buns. This is the dish that makes me come back for more.I felt particularly adventurous in my last visit and chose the Fish and Chips - I'm glad I felt brave! The fish was lovely and soft, having retained much of its moisture. The batter was excellent. The chips were perfect and thick, rounding the dish off to be quite filling! There are some unique desserts here as well... you've got to try the cheesecakes! I recommend the popcorn one. Or the red velvet. Or chocolate. They're all good choices! They're soft with beautiful texture and are Brick Lane's (and possibly Hong Kong's) pinnacle for desserts. Your taste buds will thank you. And you'll definitely be back for more!…Read More

Dirty and dull, but with tasty desserts
Yee Shun Dairy Company
2014-01-14
The double skin and ginger milk puddings are delicious, and I have enjoyed them at this place consistently over the years. If it was a few years ago this would probably be an entirely postive review. But as time has passed, service has gone downhill. The staff are efficient but have minimal manners. More recently, I have noticed them to argue with tourists a lot, being very rude and loud. Also, they argue between themselves a lot. It is mainly work related and to do with providing more efficient service, but makes the staff look very unprofessional.I would suggest not to use the restrooms if you wish to preserve your appetite. Walking past the kitchen, you often see the disgusting state it is in, along with its dishevelled inhabitants. The restrooms themselves are horrendous. Relieve yourself elsewhere. However, even with all these negatives, the desserts themselves are still at a good standard and still enjoyable. The french toast is also nice, using especially thick bread. I find myself being a repeat customer even now, but visits are becoming much rarer. I would not recommend this place due to the poor service and hygiene alone. However, if you don't care about such luxuries, feel free to try the good choice of snacks and desserts.…Read More

NYE Fireworks - Brick Lane @ CITIC
BRICK LANE (中信大廈)
2014-01-11
This was the view we had on NYE at Brick Lane CITIC, as the epic climax of our night. This picture is enough to convince me to go back to enjoy the Chinese New Year fireworks at the end of the month!  This soup was delicious and is a personal favourite of my mum's, as she loves soup and bread! The cheesy bread is an indulgence and was warm and lovely. This pork chop was excellent and juicy; the thick fries were enjoyable. This special eggs benedict was done exclusively in that holiday period I think, and it was possibly the best type of eggs benedict that I've ever had! There was lobster and various other seafood in it, and topped with caviar. Please, please bring this back for other special occasions! And I needed to point out their mulled wine. If they keep it to the same quality, I am definitely back next Christmas for their mulled wine! The right amount of sweetness, and hot to perfection. It was fun playing about with the flavour as well - dipping in the cinammon stick and orange peel to make ever sip a different yet delicious taste. The service was very good and reflected the festive period. The decor had a raw and edgy feel to it, it's like you're on British soil and rubbing shoulders with rock stars.…Read More

Love the salmon!
sen-ryo (ifc mall)
2014-01-11
This salmon sushi is one of my favourite dishes ever! The rice is delicious and the salmon is so soft and amazing! I particularly like this branch at IFC, as I feel their salmon sushi is superior than at their other branches. The dragon and california rolls are delicious as well. And I personally love fois gras, but the one we ordered at this branch was just average.I could do lunch and dinner with just the above dishes and I would be over the moon!Service is decent but is never great, so don't expect much. Go for the food!…Read More

Excellent Experience!
Takagi Yakitori
2014-01-11
As soon as I stepped into this restaurant it felt like I was transported to Japan! We were greeted fabulously by the polite and friendly staff, and were seated quickly.I absolutely love the Sapporo draft that they serve here. It is literally one of the best tasting beers I've had in my life. Everything else will need to meet this standard in the future. It has a delightfully sweet aroma and it is reflected on the palate. We had pork skewers which were delicious. Also beef skewers which were cooked well and were nice and tender. We chose most of their fresh selections which came recommended by our waitress! Very helpful and friendly. When I come again I will probably ask for their recommendations of the day again!Overall very satisfied by the dining experience. The food and decor was very good. But the best part of it all was definitely the service! We heard it usually is very busy, but I would be very willing to wait to experience this service and food again!…Read More

Disappointing but enjoyable
U-Banquet
2014-01-11
My family made a reservation for dim sum lunch here, as we wanted to try a new place. The decor seemed a bit tacky, noticeably untidy, gaudy and dirty. But that was expected and we were looking forward to the food. The har gow were tasty. These are my favourite so I'm glad they didn't do them wrong. Nice skin and juicy filling, but nothing outstanding. The shaomei was a solid dish as well. We got the typical dim sum dishes that are difficult to get wrong - but they weren't inspiring in any way.The egg tarts were quite strange and different from others I've tried (in a bad way). They were too sweet and was generally disappointing. We also ordered a set lunch with various dim sum and a fried rice. The taste and cost were okay but the wait for this set was ridiculous. We had to wait at least an hour until all the dishes arrived, and we had to continually remind the staff at least 5 times throughout. The service was terrible with timekeeping and manners were minimal. At the end of the meal, we had leftover food so asked for boxes. Takeaway boxes cost $3 as well, when they usually cost $1 in most other places. A rip off in my opinion, particularly when it's to promote sustainability. Also, on reading the receipt, they charged one extra tea cost (7 people instead of 6). Thankfully we spotted their mistake, but it took them 10-15 minutes to redo the receipt. Terrible.Overall disappointing but the food was okay. Not worth a repeat visit.…Read More
