服務及食物質素超差的餐廳 Mediocre Food with Terrible Service
My friend and I ordered No. 2 Wide Sweet potato noodles in sour and spicy broth in "Big Spicy"/ Very Spicy and a  milk tea. Our experience was horrendous. The noodles were not spicy nor sour, as we had to continuously add        more tableside vinegar and chilli oil, which also didn't match with the flavours, being from Teochew cuisines                 instead. The noodles were also cooked to absolute mush, way overcooked and disintegrating into the broth. The   milk tea was fine, nothing to write home about. However, the most infuriating part is that the waitresses had a         stinking attitude, from being short and curt with us to purposefully ignoring us when we asked them questions.      Even though this place is cheap, there are definitely better places to eat in Hong Kong. A shame to call the                      restaurant a Sichuan speciality restaurant. …Read More

食物難食,服務極差
Liu Yuan Pavilion
2022-06-17
…Read More

Absolutely Not Worth It! Do Not Come Here!!!
Gamushara
2020-06-11
Usually, I would include photos in my food reviews, but this experience was so disappointing that I thought it was not worth it at all.  Whether the reviewers here are not as picky or the quality just dropped, please just avoid this restaurant. There is a much better ramen shop (Butao Ramen) just on the ground floor of the exact same plaza/shopping mall at the same price and much much better.  Now let's break down my experience.Expectations: This dining experience did not meet my expectations at all as I have seen raving reviews and people lining up for this restaurant when it first opened. I went into this restaurant full of hope and went out of the door with such a letdown! Atmosphere: Generally, this place looks clean and sleek like you expect a good Japanese restaurant would look like. However, it was so dreary with no one in the seats at all. My mother and I were a bit shocked and hesitant of this but decided to give it a try anyway due to how hyped up the reputation was. (My Lord, what a mistake that was!)Food: My mother and I ordered one bowl of their signature ramen with the famous ginger and chicken broth, with a side order of the tofu. The food quality was mediocre at best and the ramen was absolutely not worth the hype!Signature Ramen ($89)  - I'm going to start with the only positive that I can get from this bowl of disappointment. The noodles are decent with a smooth texture and a proper bite to it. However, that is not worth the price nor the hype! The broth was extremely salty to the point that I had to pour in a whole cup of water into it and it has absolutely no depth in flavour either. It was a simple chicken broth that I could randomly make at home (and definitely have many times!). There was one piece of vegetable inside and three/four slices of chicken on top of the ramen noodles but were mediocre with boring flavours and had no depth at all. We left the restaurant with only a few bites of the ramen. You may argue that the noodle is important and I agree, but in ramen, I would say the broth is its soul! With that completely screwed, you are better off cooking instant noodles at home. (Yes, that's how bad it was.)Fried tofu ($45) - A professional Japanese restaurant cannot screw up on a tofu dish at all.  (A great tip on knowing whether you are at a good Japanese restaurant) And thankfully, this restaurant did not screw up... but also did not offer up anything special. It was a regular fried tofu dish that you could find at a decent Japanese restaurant. With the four cubes of fried tofu and a pile of garnish on top, I would say it is not worth 45 dollars. The sauce they have added the dish was also not that special. Even though it was the highlight of the whole meal (in contrast to the ramen), it was still not spectacular and it did not wow me at all. Customer Service: It was not pleasant at all. The waiters and waitresses just served up the meal and disappeared into the corner of the restaurant to chatter and play on their phones. I found it quite disrespectful for a restaurant with such a high reputation. They did not even notice there were potential customers outside of the restaurant looking at the menu board, not to mention even greet them or try to invite them into the restaurant. Needs a lot of training and common sense before working in the customer industry.  In conclusion, this was a disastrous experience. I actually haven't uploaded on Openrice for a while until this restaurant experience just let me down so much. It's basically mediocre food plastered with a fake reputation and expensive price tag. You are seriously much better off going down a few floors to a real gastronomical experience. …Read More

Disappointing Dinner
Global Work Cafe by UCC
2017-04-13
My mother and I finally settled down for dinner in this restaurant. Although we are aware that the place is well known for its pancakes, it just didn't seem right for us to have dessert for dinner. However, the meal was extremely disappointing and certainly left a bad impression on me. I may visit the restaurant again for the 'legendary' pancake but definitely not for anything else.Decor:The place was clean and well-furnished. However, it had the structure of a cheap restaurant with tight seats so don't let it fool you!Service:Aside from the terrible meal experience, the service my mother and I received was an absolutely joke. It was quick but the attitude of the staff gave off a vibe as if they want us to get out as soon as business. Definitely not welcoming at all.Taste:Salad Bar- In the restaurant, by adding HKD $43 to your meal you get a drink, a one-time taking from the salad bar and a soup. The salad bar had a decent amount of ingredients and was ok. Still it wasn't a rush of dopamine or anything. There was simply no surprise at all. The options I was provided are lettuce leaves, shredded cabbage, raisins, mashed potato, peach, pineapples, pinto beans, cherry tomatoes, corn, tuna, croutons, pasta salad and even jello cubes. When jello cubes are found in a salad bar, you can be rest assured that it is just a cover of a high-end restaurant on a cheap one. The peaches had a sickening taste to them as if they had a lingering taste of other kind of food . The tuna was too dry and was almost paper-like. The  pasta salad looked pathetic. It was dry and just seemed lifeless as if it was just popped out of a can. The mashed potato was okay but could be creamier so it would actually taste like real potato mash. Corn Cream Soup- This dish was included in the extra forty-three dollars we had paid. Although my mother had had it instead of me, I find it critical to write it down here. The soup looked as if it was too watery and lacked of taste. My mother gave up on it after a few sips and just pushed the bowl away.UCC Signature Coffee- This was the drink included with the salad. I had ordered my coffee black, meaning no milk or sugar, Even the 'signature' drink was a letdown, I do recognize the method they used to brew their coffee and was originally impressed with the technique. Yet again, the coffee wasn't having a special aroma or anything and tasted just like the coffee I had a few weeks ago from an instant coffee sachet. If the drink is labelled as the signature of the cafe, it is of logic that customers will be having high expectations.Curry Beef Rice Casserole- The biggest fail of the whole meal would be this entrée. The dish was not piping hot as it should be, implying that it was made before hand or even just simply reheated in the microwave. A splatter of cheap cheese and CREAM SAUCE was on the surface of the dish and the dish was apparently made of curry powder instead of genuine curry sauce. My mother and I finally gave up on the meal and left almost half of the casserole uneaten. It was a total disaster.…Read More

Going Traditional Hong Kong Style
皇發粥品
2017-04-11
My mother and I were walking around Tsuen Wan, finding a place for breakfast when we came across this restaurant. It was not my mother's first time coming and she said that she liked the congee she tried last time, claiming that the taste was clear as if there was no MSG added. This time we both had  a pleasant experience and enjoyed our meal. The place may look simple and ordinary but it is definitely a place I will go and eat again.Decor:The place is furnished with simple chairs and tables. Each table has every condiment you need placed on a tray on it. Although it is just a small traditional shop, the hygiene is still properly maintained. At the storefront you can see the traditional delicacies placed in the cabinet. That was actually the thing that caught my attention.Service:It was apparent that the staff treat each other as family. There was always laughter and chatter. Big smiles were shown on their faces and it actually made me feel happier too. They were quick on their feet too. The staff took our order quickly and brought our food to us as soon as possible as well. Taste:Sampan Congee- This dish is also commonly called 'boat congee' and costed HKD $15,  True to my mother's words, the congee tasted great and was definitely one of the best i have tried. It had this clear taste without the strong heavy punch of umami taste most congees around Hong Kong has. The umami punch is usually a result of added MSG. It would be a calculated guess that this diner haven't added MSG to the porridge. I was surprised at how delicious the porridge turned out to be and certainly will order porridge again next time even though I don't necessarily like congee.Steamed Dried Shrimp Rice Rolls-Costing at HKD $13, the rice rolls tasted alright for the price. It wasn't the best I have had though. The texture was great and smooth. I could definitely taste and find the shrimp pieces in the rice rolls too. However, it wasn't soft enough.Ham Chim Peng (Chinese Salted Doughnut)-I am unable to rate or comment on this dish as this is only my first time trying it. It costed HKD $7 and I was really excited to try it. When it was served, it was not as steaming hot as I had wished. However, the texture and taste was mesmerizing. In the treat was a perfectly proofed dough and was not filled with gaps and holes, giving an empty dish. The taste is both sweet and salty but the balance was well done. Would definitely try it again.…Read More

First Try of Taro Milk Tea
TenRen's Tea
2017-01-07
This was first time trying a drink that contained taro pieces. My friend and I were walking around Sunshine Plaza, in search for a sweet treat. Taro milk tea was mentioned and it certainly sounded intriguing to me. Decor:The store front was decorated with a warm green color, allowing customers to connect the shop to tea easily. The set up was open, thus making it feel welcoming.Service:Quick and straightforward service from a small drinks store. Did encounter the workers blaming each other though.Taste: Taro Green Milk Tea - I had chosen with no added sugar and no ice. The drink costed HKD 23 which wasn't too expensive on the account of the market nowadays. The milk tea was silky and the freshness of the green tea was refreshing. The taro pieces had a smooth texture as well along with a nice chew. They were a tad bit sweet and had alleviated the whole experience. Very satisfying indeed.Full of flavour and tasty indeed. Will definitely visit again.…Read More

Lunch date with Friend
Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant
2017-01-07
Today my friend and I had scheduled a lunch date in Sunshine Plaza. After meeting up at a spot, we started walking around the place in search for a comfy restaurant.  Forty-five minutes later, we decided to eat at Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant. The waiters were quick and polite while our lunch date went well.Decor:The place was furnished with dark appliances but still manages to radiate a warm atmosphere. The seat were comfy and there were a tray containing numerous condiments that customers might need. Very thoughtful indeed.Service:The waiters were very polite and quick-to-act. They were definitely fulfilling their job responsibilities.  Taste:Rice Cake Au Gratin -The dish was shared by my friend and I. It costed HKD 38 and was satisfying. The savoury taste of the melted cheese accompanied well with the chew and bite of the rice cake. A very wondrous texture and sensory experience. And I was certainly glad that they used real cheese with real cheese flavour. Pork Rice in Stone Pot (Small)-The rice was ordered by me and had costed HKD 38. As a spice lover, I had expected a kick in the dish as the menu labelled it as spicy. Unfortunately, the pot only had a tiny tinge of hotness in it and the pork was a bit too fatty without the right amount of meat to the cut. The rice was soft and with flavor but just wasn't what I had visualised.  The experience was ok and standard. Was a great place for a friend gathering though.…Read More

Interesting Deep Fried Buns
Antoshimo Cafe & Bakery
2016-12-22
Last time when my family and I were in Langham Place, this Japanese bakery left such a strong impression on us that we decided to pay it a visit. This time, we had been so excited for it and quickly found a spot to sit down. After a quick glance of the informative menu, we decided to order a sea salt caramel fondue set. The atmosphere was relaxing and was exactly what I always look for in a cafe.  As it was around four o'clock, there wasn't any people around. The food came shortly and didn't disappoint us at all. The price was reasonable and the waiters were patient and polite. It was a memorable experience.Decor:There were cushioned seats by the walls and was furnished with classic cafe furniture. The background music was soft and soothing Japanese songs and the lights were warm and dim in a good way. Service:The waiter came right after we signaled to order. During ordering, he was patient and was happy to provide any information about the food on their menu. The food arrived at our table faster than I had predicted and didn't make us wait long. Tasteeach Tea-There was nothing special about the drink. In my opinion, it was a bit too sweet but a mild  peach flavor came through the taste of the red tea. These drinks were included in the Sea Salt Caramel Fondue Set.Pork Collar Udon-The pork was tender and flavorful. The udon had a smooth texture and was nice to the bite. Certainly a good quality udon, The soup was a miso soup and was also full of flavor. There were two bowls and were included in the Sea Salt Caramel Fondue Set.Sea Salt Caramel Fondue Set-The set includes a sea salt caramel fondue, a side of tofu, spiced chicken pops, french fries and one of the three deep fried buns which we chose purple sweet potato. Two drinks and two bowls of pork collar udon are also included in the set,Deep Fried Bun with Purple Sweet Potato Filling-The bun had a crunchy crust and was soft and light inside. The dough had a mild sweetness and was very enjoyable. The sweet potato filling was also satisfying and was almost perfect with a sweetness that is just right. The whole dish was simply full of wow factor. Highly recommended.French Fries- The french fries had a sprinkle of herbs and were a dipping element in the set. The fries matched with the caramel sauce surprisingly well. I could also taste the original potato flavor along the pleasurable richness of the salted caramel. The whole experience would be alleviated if the fries were fried for a few seconds longer to gain a crispness. That would add to the whole sensory appeal.Spiced Chicken Pops-Out of all the components of the set, I would say that this one was the most ordinary element. I wasn't able to detect the spices of the chicken but they still had a nice crunch. The chicken pops were also a dipping piece of the set along the french fries and had matched well with the fondue.Tofu with Salad Dressing- To me, the tofu was delicious and added a freshness to the whole meal. It was smooth and silky and had paired well with the dressing.Deep Fried Bun with Curry Filling-The bun was again crunchy on the outside and light and soft on the inside. The savory filling was full of flavor and had chunks of meat. It was an unique dish with a lot of wow factor. Highly recommended. This restaurant is a splendid place for family and friends to hang out. I would definitely visit this place again to see what other surprises it will bring me.…Read More

Standard Macau Meal
Macau Restaurant
2016-12-22
Today, I visited the Macau restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui with Mum and my sister. We came across this restaurant on the street and the humongous pineapple buns and Portuguese tarts that are on display had immediately drawn our attention. Despite it being a crowded and busy place, we had no difficulty in finding a seat. The diner had the atmosphere of a local tea restaurant, crammed and noisy, yet warm and pleasant. The whole experience was pleasant but there wasn't anything special either. For a local tea restaurant,  it was not bad for a simple meal.Decor:Just plain traditional Hong Kong tea restaurant mood and atmosphere. Crowded yet comfortable. Reasonably spaced seats.Service:The waiters were not particularly polite and attentive but the service was normal and quick on the account of it being a tea restaurant.Tasteortuguese Egg Tarts-The tarts were a bit of a disappointment. Although their crust was flaky and light, almost to perfection, I would prefer more sugar on the top. As it was just so little, it tasted like a simple egg tart.Baked Portuguese Seafood Rice-The sauce tasted good with a sweetness and there was a definite tinge of coconut milk in it. However, the taste of the sauce didn't seem to get into the seafood at all. The mussels were big and had the taste of the sea but there was a bit water left on them as they were frozen. The price was reasonable and the taste was overall okay.  I would return for a meal yet not for its Macau specialty.…Read More

Not as expensive as I thought
Kitaro Japanese Restaurant
2016-12-18
My sister and I were just looking for something simple for our lunch when we passed through this restaurant. I first glanced at the menu; all the items were expensive. However, just as we were going to leave, one of the waitresses came out and introduced the set lunch menu to us. Those offers first were appealing and the waitress also mentioned that since we're students, we could have a free appetiser and have cold drinks without costing us. It didn't take long until we decided to eat there. We stepped into the restaurant and was immediately welcomed by the traditional Japanese atmosphere the restaurant possesses. The waitresses were nice and welcoming and the food was up to standard. It's definitely a great place for a cheap but satisfying meal,Decor : The furnitures and walls completely shouted "Japan". The background music was also Japanese songs (not pop songs), adding more to the atmosphere. The whole environment was just relaxing and warm.Service : The waitresses were welcoming and were always willing to recommend good dishes. They were polite when we made our orders and the food was served quickly.Taste : Pork Floss Sushi Handroll - This was an free item and was surprisingly good. Although the seaweed was a bit soggy, the rice was seasoned perfectly and it was filled generously with pork floss filling way from the top to the bottom. The pork floss was flavourful and had a tinge of salad dressing creaminess to it.Pork Cutlet Rice with Egg Sauce - The portion was pretty big and the originally satisfying egg sauce became a bit unbearable due to its sweetness. However, the pork cutlets were fried to golden brown and had a crispy crust.Barbecued Pork Belly Ramen - There wasn't anything special about it, but was nevertheless a filling meal. It was a large bowl and the soup was fantastic. The egg and the pork belly was nice but wasn't anything out of the ordinary. The seaweed at the side though was so soggy that it just slumped over the side. For the set lunch, this restaurant offers affordable dishes and also provides reasonable quality of food and service. It is an ideal pace for a normal meal and it is very likely that may visit it again.…Read More

Inexpensive Dimsum
Dimsum & Hotpot Specialists
2016-12-17
After a long walk around the nearby flower market, Grandma, Mum and I decided to visit and try this newly opened restaurant. Mum had known this restaurant through a bronche which mentioned that the restaurant provides freshly made dimsum. The choices are quite limited but the dishes were all delicately made and the taste of them were pretty good.  We have ordered three shrimp dumplings, barbecue pork buns, bean curd rolls in fish soup, prawn filled red rice rolls and prawn spring rolls with thyme and cheese. The meal costed for $91.Decor:The color of the background can be a bit depressing. The restaurant has chosen mostly dark colors, such as the black ceiling and purple seats. However, the seats were cushioned and are not unpleasant.Service:Waiters are polite but seems to be inexperienced and gives out a lazy vibe. It would be a better experience if they pick up the pace.Taste:Shrimp Dumplings- It is the selling point of the restaurant. It is claimed to be made to order. The moistness of it was just right with a juicy filling and  a slightly moist wrapper. Definitely recommendedBean Curd Rolls in Fish Soup-The rolls weren't a disappointment but there wasn't anything special about them. No wow factor at all.Prawn Spring Rolls with Thyme and Cheese- This is my mother's personal favourite. A very appealing golden crust and very crisp to the bite. The prawn in the filling was fresh with a hint of thyme and cheese. People who are fond of fried foods and herbs should definitely try this.Snowy Barbecue Pork Buns- We were fascinated by the name and decided to give it a try. The 'snow' on the bun wasthe kind of sugary crust you find on Mexician buns and it was certainly an interesting combination. The sweetness ofit matched the barbecue pork inside and just sparked its wow factor. A nice twist on this traditional dim sum dish.Prawn Filled Red Rice Rolls-This was my personal favourite. The maroon colour of the wrapping was just so attractive. The filling was prawns with a slight crisp similar to the spring roll skin we had. It was a whole refreshing experience.
