Not value for money anymore
Sushi Man
2024-04-11
Heard good things about this place before but I think things have changed for the worst. Starting Apr 1, 2024 their $580 lunch menu went from 12 pcs to 10 pcs but remained the same price. It’s not very good value for the money anymore. Not to mention the fish offered for the lunch menu are also not as good value. Omakase restaurants are dying after Covid, no doubt about that, but it’s sad to see that we were the only ones for lunch when this place used to be very difficult to book. The service was great and the host was very attentive and the chef explained all the dish.So it’s the first time I had sardines in omakase and it was definitely not my cup of tea. That fishy taste lingered in my mouth, wish I knew they served that so I can avoid it next time. Usually I also am not a big fan of ikura but theirs is marinated in sake so it was actually kind of sweet. I liked their fresh surf clam sushi it was very fresh. The best piece is probably the chutoro, which is standard for me in omakase. The uni was also standard and definitely not enough.Overall, some pieces were good and the fish is fresh. But nothing outstanding to me. Especially I don’t think it was great value like it was known to be and I don’t think I’ll be back. I’d rather pay a little more and enjoy better omakase somewhere else. …Read More

…Read More

Micasadeco & Cafe Hong Kong
2019-12-05
…Read More

Chili Party (Soravit on Granville Hotel)
2019-09-18
…Read More

Not bad experience
OVO CAFE
2017-09-09
Girls always have those days where they say they are dieting. That is why we decided to go to Ovo Cafe in Wan Chai known for their greens. Going from clockwise, the first dish is Spinach cheese pie with portobello. The pie came out hot, so that's something to appreciate, otherwise it was a bit dry on the inside. The second dish is Tom Yummy, it's kind of like a fusion dish and one of my favorite of the night. There was a hint of coconut and tom yum flavor, but not too much so it taste completely like a Thai dish. It was night time but one of their must-have is definitely the All Day Breakfast. From the lettuce, to the beans to the tomatoes every ingredients was really fresh. Next is the Baby Spinach & Apple Salad in Granola Yogurt, I really like the mix they put in and the yogurt goes well with the salad. Finally, there is the Porcini Lover Risotto, I was excited for this one because I love mushroom risotto, but I dare say this is just an average risotto. The rice was al dente but the mushroom flavor wasn't so strong. Maybe we had too much food on the table, but it was a bit cold when we were eating it.Overall, the experience in Ovo Cafe was good. The staff seemed nice enough and explained any questions that we had. However, the downside of this place is self-serviced. My friend definitely did not enjoy that haha, but I thought the vibe of the whole place was very calming and the food was not bad! So I would suggest it, unless you do not enjoy self-serviced restaurants. …Read More

Best cha siu scrambled egg rice!
Lok Heung Yuen Coffee Shop
2017-08-30
One of our favorite lunch spot was no other than Lok Heung Yuen Coffee Shop. The line there can be long sometimes due to the cheap price and delicious food, but it usually goes by fast since everyone needs to head back to work as soon as they finish (That's crazy HK for you). They have different combination for their scrambled egg with rice. You can get either Cha Siu (which is their signature), shrimp (which is always sold out when I go there), or beef. I always opt for the Cha Siu and you can't go wrong. Their silky smooth scrambled eggs mixed with delicious Cha Siu and scallions always make me yearning for more. They give you soy sauce on the side, but you will not need it as it is already well-flavored. They also have other options on their menu, but scrambled eggs with rice is what I highly recommend. That is also the reason why everyone goes there. If only I can master how to make scrambled eggs like that at home, then I think I am set as a cook for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, I cannot, so I will be going to Lok Heung Yuen for my cha siu scrambled eggs with rice.…Read More

Best sandwich in HK!
Morty's Delicatessen
2017-08-30
This sandwich shop is hands-down one of the best sandwich shop I ate in Hong Kong. Located in the basement of Jardine House, it's only a short walk from Central Station or Hong Kong station. A lot of expats would get their lunch here because it is convenient, delicious and well-priced for what you are getting. I got the Classic duck meat sandwich and it was the bomb. It was loaded with delicious juicy duck as well as avocado, lettuce, tomato and onion on rye bread. The bread was crispy, and the fatness of the duck meat was just right. Actually duck fat is food for you anyways, so no need to worry at all about feeling guilty after eating the whole sandwich, because you will. We also tried the Reuben where the meat was a bit on the dry side, but expected from pastrami. It was nevertheless still very food.Overall, while I am typing this post, I am drooling just thinking about those sandwiches. I want more of those delicious duck meat on rye bread. Excuse me while I run and get some haha.…Read More

Just an OK experience
Robuchon au Dome
2017-08-30
My first Michelin 3-star. I had a good time there, but maybe my taste in food is so cheap I can't really tell what's so magnificent about this place. Or is it because we were there for lunch? Among all the Robuchon, the one in Macao is known to be the one with the most reasonable priced Michelin experience. But I wonder if it's because of that, it was below my expectations. It wasn't bad, but it was just not a wow-experience. The weather was not on our side that day either, it was really foggy and the view of Macao was minimal. The side we sat on was a bit tight, but there was more privacy compare to the dining room. We chose the Menu Plaisir which includes Appetizer, Soup, Main, Cheese or Dessert, and Coffee or tea with mignardise. And we paired it with the Discovery Degustation which includes 2 glasses of wine. The wine is chosen by the manager to compliment with the dishes that we ordered. The lunch took around 2 hours because there's a long gap before each dish. Although each dish looked like they weren't much, we were actually quite filling that we didn't even eat dinner. The Amuse-Bouche was good with quail egg tempura and caviar. My appetizer had more caviar (which I think they replaced it with sea urchin in recent menu, much better idea since there's already caviar in the first dish) with some asparagus. The other appetizer was crab meat and avocado cannelloni, both of my favorite ingredients. What's not to like? My favorite has to be my main which is Duck Breast with Foie Gras. They put the two together really well. On the other hand, the black cod as the other main was just OK. I personally think having bok choy on the dish kind of made it look cheap. I go grocery shopping so I know how much the bok choy cost. With no doubt, I think their bonito broth with shrimps was the most disappointing menu. They made it very fancy by putting the broth in a tea pot and pouring it into the bowl in front of you. But it tasted like a udon soup broth (except a little bit cleaner minus the MSG). This was definitely a wrong choice. The dessert cart was the highlight! I honestly thought it was all you can eat, but I was sad to find out I can only choose 2 from the cart. Then again, I was stuffed from the food before haha. Overall, I believe the Michelin experience was not as expected. But with the price we paid for a Michelin 3-star I think it is forgivable. The food was decent but it was not memorable, there was not a yearning-for-more feeling. I am more interested in making a visit to other Robuchon locations.…Read More

Gem hidden in Prince Edward
THE ALCHEMIST CAFE (Poplar Street)
2013-08-30
This place is such a gem in Hong Kong. When I first entered the cafe, this is what I saw. It was obvious their theme was about travels. There are many cafes with books, but this one is filled with travel books. Just my favorite. Under the table glass, it was filled with fliers from other countries and the walls had many postcards from around the world. Besides from the fliers, there was a small booklet on the table that introduced a special event that happens every Saturday in the cafe. There is a stage for couchsurfers and their travel experience. Being a couchsurfer myself, I can really relate! It was tea time so there were many good deals. Since waffles are really popular recently so I decided to try out their waffles. It came with a fruit salad, and a fresh strawberry jam. The waffles' texture and taste were ok, but nothing special. I ordered a Rose Cafe Latte, it was my first time to try a Rose Cafe Latte. I was worried if the two would not match, but it was actually better than I expected. It was delicious coffee with a hint of rose.I didn’t get a chance to try their food, but if I have a chance I will definitely go back. The environment alone made me felt comfortable. However, I will avoid dinner time because as I was leaving around the evening time, the place started the fill up really quick and got very noisy.…Read More

I-Scream Gelato
2008-12-12
