JADE GARDEN (MOKO)
2014-12-12
every time i come back to HK, i always come here. this is my favoriate dim sum place. they have Dan San, which is the fried egg twister with syrup, a very traditional dish. although it's not so much as the traditional style that was supposed to be much heavier and more texture, at least i can find it in Jade Garden. they also have another traditional Ma Tsai, which is a square dessert. Other dim sum is also quite decent. i also ordered crystal buns with red bean and egg custards, which are quite good. it's my first time to try this out. veggies, if it's boiled, are only $33, a lot cheaper than garlic stir fried $78. i don't understand why adding garlics is so much more expensive. overall this is a decent dim sum place.…Read More

Not Thai food at all
金葉軒
2014-12-07
Came here all the way from TST at 8:30pm. It's like a Tai Pai Tung, not a restaurant at all. The waitress doesn't know how to recommend food to you.Thai style oyster pizza: it's the same as taiwanese oyster pancake, but taiwanese one is better than this. nothing special.indonesian fried rice: it's supposed to be spicy, but it's not spicy and it's with currey, shrimp chips and chicken skewers. which is very strange. not good at all. thai kale stir fried: the kale is very hard and not cooked completely, the flavor is not good either, it's worse that the malaysian style "ma lai chan", it's a mimic version. stir fried clam with spicy sauce:  the cantonese version is better than this. it has no Thai flavor at all. …Read More

Just So So
Le Relais de l'Entrecôte
2014-12-07
I was told this is the only Le Relais outside of Paris, so I thought it would be very good. However, everything is just so so, though the atmosphere is quite nice with classy european pub feel. They have only 1 menu for all lunches and dinners, which is a salad, a steak + fries, dessert. Actually french fries are not from france. they shouldn't serve here. salad is a normal salad, nothing special. steak - i heard the sauce is very special, but it's not special to me at all. the steak is nothing special either. the waitress doesn't even know which part of the cow is this steak.the fries are worse than the fast food chain in US. dessert is too sweet for me. Overall, I think it's not up to standard.wine is good. …Read More

Casa Lisboa Portuguese Restaurant & Bar
2014-12-02
Didn't make a reservation and just walked in for lunch on Tuesday. Got a table by the door, which was not great, but okay.$180/P for 3 courses of lunch. I picked salted Bacalhau salad, it was fresh but too oily at the bottom, they put a lot of olive oil or whatever oil on it.....the Bacalhau is wrapped with dried tomato, the taste was not bad, but just too oily for me. 2nd course was the traditional portguese fish skewer wrapped with bacon. i enjoyed the sauteed veggies on the side, it was tasty, but still a bit too oily. I didn't, though, enjoy the bacon, as it wasn't grilled long enough to the point of craspy. 3rd course was the classic portugal layered biscuit. it basically is like a caramel layered cake, which comes with an ice cream ball. the sweetness was okay, the cake was not bad, but not too special. what i like about this restaurant was its atmosphere, the decoration and music. it was really great. …Read More

Chan Kun Kee

this place is really popular, a lot of people, all full. and the waitors and waitresses don't even care about you because they have too many customers. obviously services are very bad.we ordered wasabi chicken - very good, wasabi flavor can be strong. this comes with jelly fish appetizer and some hams in it. the chicken is very smooth and silky. zi ran pork ribs - the flavor is quite good, grilled well. it comes with some sour spicy sauce. with that sauce, the flavor is even better. it is kinda like the xinjiang and middle eastern grill meat. eggplant with salted fish clay pot - the flavor is good, but the salted fish flavor can be stronger. it's too oily. i wish they could use less oil. dessert - the crispy mango dessert is sold out and japanese milk pudding is also sold out. so i ordered the durian pudding instead. too much cream on top and durian tastes terrible.....…Read More

Hui Lau Shan

i came here craving for the sago desserts. i ordered the taro sticky rice dessert with black sesame mochi ($26).they said the mochi is sold out and can only replace with small mochi without filling still $26 or without it it's still $26. i said "why still $26 without the mochi? well, ok, i would do the one with small mochi without black sesame fillings. "then they came back to me and told me it's also sold out. then i had to look for another item. so i ordered the bird's nest dessert steamed egg white with black sesame fillings ($29). it's actually not the filling, rather they put the black sesame paste at the bottom and steamed the egg white on the top. i was quite disappointed and the egg itself is not tasty at all. all these items are put in a plastic bowl (unlike other dessert shops put it in a casserole) and make it look quite cheap. …Read More

ROYCE' Chocolate
2014-11-01
i think the normal chocolate bars are too normal. i would buy those chocolate box that are fresh and soft.i tried two flavors, chocolate and green tea flavors. the chocolate one with a lot of chocolate powders on top, a bit dry but it's classic, the chocolate is soft but a bit too sweet for me. for the green tea flavor chocolate box, it tastes like the ice cream, very soft and melted on my hand. i like the green tea flavor one a lot more. …Read More

danish bar with chestnut cream fillings
Danish Bar
2014-11-01
the place is next to the little mermaid across city's super. they only sell danish bar and similar pastries in the ball shape or stick shape. they have savory and dessert types. i ordered a danish bar with chestnut cream fillings. the pastry is not impressive, not crispy and too sweet, a bit soggy. the inside chestnut cream fillings are almost none. i completely cannot feel the chestnut taste or saw much of that fillings inside. its $16 each. i would not buy it again.…Read More

matcha cake with matcha custard
Sweets House Cha Cha
2014-11-01
the line is a bit long , but it was actually quite fast because they have someone taking order for you when you are waiting. it is inside the city's super. they have mainly green tea flavors for ice cream, smoothie, cakes, with some other flavors such as black sesame, sweet potato, green beans, etc. you can see how they make it through the window. it looks nice.i ordered matcha cake with matcha custard. it's not very sweet, the cake is soft, i like the texture and the sweetness. the custard also got a strong green tea flavor and the cream level is good, not too creamy or too liquid. i may try other flavors next time such as the black sesame one, though they told me it's not very popular. …Read More

Herb Drink
Hung Fook Tong
2014-10-09
I bought herb drink in this shop twice when i passed by hang hau station. I bought exactly the same drink: hui shup cha, to help with the indigestion problem and any gastro upset and uncomfortable issues.  I feel the herb is not strong, too much water with very little functions. but it is still better than those sold in supermarkets. this herb drink is said to be low sugar, but i still feel it is too sweet for me. i suggest they add no sugar for healthy drinks like this. outside of this, they also have different types of drinks such as almond drink, tea flavor egg, chicken wings which are not healthy, etc. a variety of interesting stuff, but relatively pricey. …Read More

Good environment
Lobby Lounge (Kowloon Shangri-La)
2014-10-03
Sunday afternoon tea buffet with my good friend here. The lounge is facing sea view, but just a lot of traffic on the road as well. It is relaxing and you can sit from 1pm to 5pm for buffet.  there is a lot of food, though the choices are not a lot. it is good enough for afternoon tea. there is a hot section with congee, cantonese dim sum, middle estern food, etc.  a lot of selection for desserts with low sugar options as well. some vegetable dishes are good as well. For me, I like the congee and the cantonese dessert soup with silver fungi.  i especially like the hazelnut scone, some puff, etc.  The scone is very soft, good texture and flavorful, not very oily or buttery. Some desserts like chocolate pie and lemon pie are good. Their tea is really good, I like the italian almond tea with almond flavor. But the sushi is not that good - I would try to avoid it. In the end i ate 9 plates in total and was very full. $319 per person, it's better than a lot of other food, that costs even more.…Read More

Mes Amis
2014-10-03
Had a drink at this place. Many places around it look very shady to me, but this one looks bigger than the ones around it. I came here on a Monday night at 9:45pm, it was quite empty insdie. the environment was not loud, so it was good for talking, unlike many other noisy bars. It was a good place for me, who does not like a lot of noises. We ordered a belgium beer and it was fine. It is hard to tell if their beer is better or worse than other bars. There were many waitor or waitress there because it was quite empty, so you actually had to go to the bar table to ask them to come over to place your order.…Read More

Good flavor, bad dough, too dirty
King Pizza Tuesday
2014-08-31
we went to this really local place, around it it's a ghetto village. it's a big surprise to me because i haven't seen such a local place for a long time. the toilet is very dirty, many mosquito, and don't expect any tissue paper from the restaurant.we ordered 13'' super spicy pizza - it's quite spicy, the flavor is quite good, which reminds me of the KFC St. Louis BBQ Chicken wings. but the dough is very hard, not fluffy at all. any american pizza can make a better dough than this. speghetti with eggplants - too much cream and butter, cheese. very heavy. i was trying to find a little piece of speghetti without cream, but it was impossible :(baked clam with butter and cheese - it was also very heavy, too much cheese. i had to move away all the cheese on top to eat the clam at the bottom :(we spent $90 for 3 orders. …Read More

House of Jasmine (Harbour City)
2014-08-31
The place is very hard to find in such a big harbor city. the indoor seating is limited but the outdoor seating is quite nice with a view of Central landscape. we really want to order the glass shrimp in clay pot, but we don't know why they said they don't have it. i think that's their signature dish. abalone chicken soup - it's very very small. it's poured in a tea pot. a lot of chicken compared to that size. papaya with fish belly and fungus - it's quite light and healthy. it's cooked well, soft and fresh. tofu with minced pork - it's got nothing special, very small portion with only 6 or 8 pieces of tofu. not recommended.BBQ pork in the paper bag - it's wrapped nicely, but flavor is not impressive. i wouldn't order this again. eel in a clay pot - this one is nice, bigger than other ones, with eels, squash, mushroom, garlics, etc. overall, we paid almost $700 for 3 people. i think it's overpriced with mediocre flavors.…Read More

The only bar on HKUST campus
UC Bistro美國三文治公司
2014-08-27
We had our student club meeting here. It's more casual and like a sit-down place on campus, and more importantly this is the only bar on campus. Since we had a group of 15 people, it was quite hard to accommodate a big group for seating. We ordered many "Happy Hour" stuff, like beer, french fries, and fried onion rings. -Beer: it's huge, a very big cup, be ready to go to bathroom often after this drink...... =.=''-French fries: the fries are thick with real potato texture inside, but somehow i feel the fries are a bit lack of potatao flavor.-Fried onion rings: I think this one is quite normal to me, nothing better or worse than the usual onion rings. But perhaps I come from USA, I feel these junk food from US tastes much better than in HK. The restaurant inside doesn't seem to be very clean to me. It's next to our new student dorm building Tower C. …Read More
