Food comparable to 3-star hotel
The Lobby Lounge, Regent Hong Kong
2023-08-19
We thought having lunch at a 5-star hotel would surely wow us. Apparently, not. More precisely, our experience was extremely underwhelming.Positives (+):- Service was great. Staff constantly added water to our teapot. - View was absolutely gorgeous.- Surprised that tea only cost $80, which is quite a fair price for a 5-star hotel.Negatives (-):Appetizers:- Tomato salad: tomatoes tasted like they were drenched in canned tomato paste… - Although the ham was quite good, the melon slices did not taste sweet. Actually, they tasted dehydrated, not juicy at all.Entrees:- Beef cheek: tasted bland and it was not the slightest bit tender, which was such a letdown, considering that the protein should be the main star of the entire course? Moreover, the meat only screamed SALTY. Not to mention, one of us suffered from abdomen pain an hour or so after the meal. - Halibut: as bland as the beef mentioned above, but slightly better (JUST slightly). We had to drench the entire fish with the sauce that was coupled with it just to save it from its blandness and dryness (p.s. the sauce didn’t really taste like anything, but it was better than nothing so). Guess the asparagus on the side was the only saving grace for this plate… if only this was a 3-star hotel instead.Desserts:- Peach with vanilla ice cream: vanilla ice cream tasted fine, was the best part of the meal. However, once again, the peaches tasted bland, exactly the same blandness as the appetizers above-mentioned. Such a letdown of the star, the peaches.- Mille-feuille: honestly, considering how subpar the course was, this dessert was the best overall. However, this doesn’t mean that it was mind blowing. It was alright. Vanilla cream was kind of smooth, but the flavor wasn’t too apparent. Caramel sauce was too sweet for my personal liking, but the texture was quite thick so that was nice. The layers were also very crunchy so this kind of saved a fifth of the meal (maybe). + portions were also quite small, and we were starving afterwards. In short, appetizers were not very fresh, entrees were very very bland with a hazard sign on one of them, and desserts were so……ordinary. Overall, the food was extremely bland, way way way below our expectations (so mental note to ourselves: always expect less, especially when you are dining in 5-star hotels in Hong Kong). Would not recommend anyone to waste so much money on low-quality food with very subpar flavor profiles. Honestly, dining in this hotel just for the Victorian Harbour view isn’t worth anyone’s time. …Read More

Big Italian Rip-off
AMA Ristorante by The Amatricianist
2022-11-24
An experience of an Italian meal that lacked color and zest. The price of the set lunch did not match its quality and there were several reasons for that:• Tagliolini was colourless and tasted extremely bland. Had some mozzarella cheese but it didn’t really help to bring out its flavors. Also, the venison looked and tasted like bits of dog food. • Chef’s antipasto selection tasted like meat that was bought from a local grocery store. • Mushroom soup was more watery than I’d expected, and again, the mushroom flavors were not accentuated enough. • Steak cost +$300, but it tasted like a $150 steak because it didn’t have enough smokiness to it.• Thought a fine dining restaurant with a ridiculously expensive lunch set would have better tea bags. But no, they only used Twinnings. • Bread and water cost $28….. At least the ONLY positive comment I can make is that the bread was warm. …Read More

Good place to chill
Small good
2022-07-13
A really good niche coffee shop for relaxing:• 60% hot chocolate wasn’t too sweet; a pretty big cup and chocolate flakes on top complemented the drink really well (adds back a bit of sweetness yet not too overpowering); silky texture (no big chunks/residue whatsoever at the bottom); amount of milk was perfect (in most coffee shops I’ve been to, baristas love adding an excessive amount of milk which takes away 90% of the cocoa in the drink) • lighting was really nice; staff were really friendly and casual; spacing between the tables was perfect, not too close nor far away from each other:)Highly recommend this place! Especially if you want to be by yourself for a few hours.…Read More

The perfect coffee shop for relaxing!
Coffee 101
2022-06-16
Went to this coffee shop a few days ago and I must say, it is certainly one of the most relaxing coffee shops you will ever find in Hong Kong!!🤩🤩• Hot chocolate wasn’t too sweet and the coffee art was beautiful • The interior design of the shop emitted a very homey and comforting atmosphere for people of any age! 🙌• Staff members were extremely friendly 😁 • The environment around the shop was very peaceful • A reasonably large cup of hot chocolate and it only cost $35!• Didn’t take long for the drinks and food to arrive!I would definitely recommend anyone to visit this shop if you are trying to have some down time or to study ☕️ Finally found the perfect place to rest and to sip a nice cup of hot chocolate/coffee.…Read More

Not the American sandwich I was looking for
Morty's Delicatessen
2022-02-24
The meal at Morty’s was just bland and disappointing:- The thousand island sauce tasted like toothpaste. It was unbearable to the point I couldn’t even swallow the rest.- The bread was barely toasted.- Fries were fine, but didn’t have enough salt. The sweet potatoes weren’t sweet in itself though. - Meat was not tender and kind of difficult to chew. Lacked flavor, and just excessively salty. …Read More

Not worth it
Gram Cafe & Pancakes
2021-08-07
I have actually tried the food here before when it was still at Causeway Bay. Though I didn’t like the pancake at the time, I decided to give the place another shot.• Pancakes were not fluffy, the base of the pancakes were kind of hard• The chocolate in the tiramisu didn’t taste like chocolate, it was just so sweet• There were more condensed milk and cream than chocolate• The filling of the tiramisu was overly sweet too• And the tiramisu was $118?? That’s not a good price for such a mediocre pancake• Thought Gram’s pancakes would improve after 1.5 years but nope• Will never go there again…Read More

Overpriced and not worth it
Morokok (家樂坊)
2021-05-19
It was a hot sunny day so my friend and I wanted to go to a nice place for a nice cup of tea or something like that. We walked around randomly in YMT and found this place.About the food:Like honestly, it’s not worth the price and I am not kidding. Even if the place had nice AC and nice decorations like Sakura flowers etc, I wouldn’t go back.So basically my friend ordered an avocado toast which costed $78. Normally you would expect to have 2 pieces of average sized toasts right? No. The dish only had 1 toast with very little avocado spread on top of it. And she said the toast didn’t even taste amazing, like it was average and she would only give it 6/10. I ordered the pancake and it was around $70-80 too. The pancake itself was so damn sweet, and I felt like I was just eating mouthfuls of sugar😵. The kiwis on the pancake weren’t ripe at all, they were just hard. But the pancake’s only saving grace was the mangoes.Oh yes, I also have to mention my drink. I ordered the “surprise tea” or something like the sort and oh my lord, I should’ve just drank water. When I took a sip of it, i was so sure that it was the NESTLE peach tea. Guess that was a “good” surprised. Overall, it’s just overpriced and so many tiny coffee shops can do it better than this restaurant. …Read More
