Greyhound Café (又一城)
2015-09-03
There are multiple Greyhound Cafes around Hong Kong. This one is conveniently located near the glacier in Festival Walk so I come by now and then because the food is decently priced and tastes pretty good for what it's worth.Food 4/5The food here is pretty good, they have quite a few different cuisines, mainly a combination of Italian Pastas, American Burgers and Thai dishes. I didn't know it was thai until I saw the category actually. Their Thai milk tea and coffee are pretty famous, but I personally feel like they're too sweet for me actually. I really like their pastas, they're all very flavourful, especially the scallop fettucine and baked pennes. My friends tell me their cakes are pretty good, and judging from their looks, they are made pretty nicely, I just haven't tried them yet but I'm guessing it'll be worth a try if I wasn't so full after the main course.Service: 3/5The service is pretty meh. It used to be better, but since Greyhound expanded it's branches it has gone down significantly. It takes some effort to get the waiters attention but eventually they get everything done.Overall, it's a good place to eat at if you don't wanna browse through and decide what to eat for lunch, I would say Greyhound is a safe pick.…Read More

Chinese Food with a View
Yu Lei
2015-09-03
Located in Hung Hom, this restaurant is located right next to the sea, with a amazing and breathtaking view of the harbour. The restaurant decor itself has a beautiful fusion atmosphere of both chinese and japanese.Food: 3.7/5The food here is pretty decently made, you get what you pay for, except perhaps a little more expensive than what you get, but tastes pretty good in general. They incorporate a lot of western style cooking, such as truffle dishes. Their selection of food however, isn't that extensive, and especially during lunch time, their dim sum selection was very limited, to only one page. Overall, decent quality food but a little overpricedService: 5/5Service is very good. The waiters are all very attentive to your needs, folding up your napkins when you leave the table and attending to make sure the tea was hot.Overall I would recommend coming here if you feel like spending a little, as it definitely is not cheap, but you also get the seaview and decent quality food for what you pay.…Read More

American Food
Main St. Deli
2015-09-03
Located near the large shopping mall Harbour City and Ocean Terminal, my friends and I popped by one lunch time for a shopping break and ordered several hamburgers.Food: 4/5The food here they serve is very American, burgers and what not, each burger priced around 100-200 each, which is relatively more expensive than burgers you get elsewhere, but it's pretty decent quality. They have a pretty large range of different American food, and also an amazing selection of drinks and milkshakes which you should definitely try.Service: 4/5The service here was pretty good, the waiters were all very friendly, replicating the atmosphere and service attitude that you would get in the states. Nothing to complain about really.Overall I think this is a good place if you want to have some authentic American burgers, well not exactly authentic, but the next best alternative I suppose. Worth a try if you're nearby and you're not really craving anything, but I wouldn't say it's worth making a trip from a far just to try it, but definitely worth a try if it's in your path of convenience. …Read More

Teppanyaki!
Unkai Japanese Cuisine
2015-09-03
Located inside Sheraton hotel, this is a pretty decent Teppanyaki place that you would find in the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. It's not say, amazing, but it's pretty decent compared to the ones in say, Island Shangrila or Four Seasons.Food: 4/5The food quality is great, but you get what you pay for, an average of $1500 per set of teppanyaki but you can get even more expensive ones with A5 Wagyu beef. They have a variety of different beefs such as U.S. prime or Australian wagyu, but of course that's nothing compared to A5 Japanese ones. The chefs all make the teppanyaki very nicely, I absolutely love the thin cuts of wagyu wrapped around chopped up spring onions and garlic, definitely worth a try.Service: 4/5Service is pretty good, which is not surprising considering that its at a hotel. One of the waiters is very amusing and was very nice to tell us which sashimi and ingredients were off season, definitely a bonus.Overall it's a pretty decent restaurant if you're craving teppanyaki and don't want to cross the harbour. Make sure you're prepared to pay the price for the quality you get though!…Read More

Gudetama Promotion!
Dim Sum Icon
2015-09-03
Came here with my best friend for an early lunch at 12:30pm today. Sole reason was due to the Gudetama promotion that they are doing right now from August-September, the cute little tamago/egg cartoon character that has become a popular hit in HK recently.Food: 2/5The food itself was really mediocre, definitely not worth the price, but have to say, everything was really adorable, because hey! Gudetama is just way too cute! Their runny egg yolk buns weren't runny at all, which was extremely disappointing, although we did see some of the other customers get proper runny ones. Ours was just solid and dry.Service: 2/5Service was meh, the restaurant isn't actually a proper restaurant, probably a little cafe type of thing with perhaps 20-30 seatings, so it really wasn't that big. Yet it was extremely difficult to get the attention of the waiters and what not.Overall a very disappointing experience and definitely not something I would try again, and personally am not too sure whether it's worth it even though they are selling super cute dim sum dishes.…Read More

Sweet Potato!
Small Potato Ice Creamery
2015-09-03
Came here after seeing some Hong Kong foodies have them and it sounded like a rather interesting combination. It's actually quite annoying to get to, a 5-10 minute walk from the closest MTR station, but easily accessible by car. I came here on a Monday night, so it was relatively empty and quiet, with only 2 groups of other customers in the store. The ice cream was very flavourful, made from Sweet Potatoes from Japan, they have quite a few selections, I believe they also have normal milk ice cream which I did not try. The sweet potato ice cream was not what I expected. I was expecting something that was more savory and didn't really expect it to work well at first. But it did, it worked very well, and they even had this sweet potato paste to go with it which really enhanced the taste. The texture is a little different from normal ice cream, I believe they're trying to mimic the starchy/floury texture of sweet potatoes.Overall a very nice experience and good end to your day, except that it is at a rather inconvenient location. Price is very reasonable considering their imported sweet potatoes from Japan, ranges from 40-50 per ice cream.…Read More

Donut Ice Cream Sandwiches!
Munchies
2015-08-31
This place is quite isolated and difficult to find amidst the uphill streets in Sheung Wan. My friend recommended this place to me and after seeing her delicious photos I came here to try out their famous donut ice cream sandwiches. We ordered a Lemon Cheesecake Donut + Vanilla Ice Cream Sandwich and also an Earl Grey Donut + Chocolate Ice Cream Sandwich. The donuts were very delicious, the earl grey scent was very heavy and satisfying, and it paired very nicely with the chocolate ice cream that we had. Their ice cream are all homemade and it was delicious for something homemade. The only downside is that it is pretty damn expensive for simply donuts and ice cream, almost $80 each, so it's not something you would snack on often, but worth splurging on now and then.Would give it 5 stars if only it wasn't so expensive.…Read More

Cheap Option in Landmark
kikusan
2015-08-27
Dropped by for a little break amidst shopping in Landmark. This place is pretty quiet on the basement floor of landmark, near simplylife cafe. They have a fusion japanese menu that's decently priced, and cheaper relative to the other restaurants in landmark.Food: 3/5Food was okay it wasn't great nor was it bad. We had a few of their smaller dishes, the layered pork loin tonkatsu and the chicken and egg rice bowls. The food was pretty normal, priced around 150 each. It wasn't terrific, but i suppose you get what you pay for.Service: 4/5Service wasn't good, wasn't bad. Waiters brought us what we needed but didn't linger around the table.Come here if you want a cheaper option at landmark, as this is probably one of the cheaper restaurants in Landmark.…Read More

Ugh
Australia Dairy Company

This is one of the traditional Hong Kong styled cafes, and one of the most popular places in Hong Kong. Except definitely not for me.Service: 1/5 (or should i say 0?)Known notoriously within Hong Kong for the rude waiters and horrendous service. The waiters will get you a table, dump the food on your table, and hurry you and kick you out of the restaurant before you finish swallowing your last bite.Food: 2/5They serve a very local style made scrambled eggs and macaroni soup. Their scrambled eggs are very watery and honestly, i can get the same broth at other places. So i don't really understand the horrendously long lines outside the restaurant. I suppose it's because local restaurants like these are very rare nowadays.…Read More

Large Variety of Skewers
Yayakiya
2015-08-27
Came here after discovering this newly opened restaurant. For a restaurant that has just opened for not long, it was surprisingly busy in business, and after having dinner there with my family, I could easily tell why.Service: 3/5Service was decent considering the number of customers at the restaurant, but I seriously think they're majorly understaffed. It took us a lot of effort to even get served water, but ordering the food wasn't too big of a problem.Food: 4/5The menu consisted of mostly skewers, their signature being pork belly wrapped skewers, such as with quail eggs, corn etc. We ordered a large variety of appetitzers and many different kinds of skewers. The ones that stood out most to me were their Homemade Cream Cheese Tofu, which had a very interesting blend to two very distinct tastes, a very good and refreshing dish to start your meal with. Their Edamame Croquettes also embodied a very interesting combination of edamame beans and potato mash. Most of their skewers were heavily drenched in sauce, which sometimes overpowered the taste of the actual meat itself, so that was disappointing.Overall: 4/5The dinner overall was great, decently priced food and quality. It would be a much better experience if they had more staff to serve the customers, and also if they toned down on their spices and sauces on their dishes. And also the lighting in the restaurant was rather weak, although it does contribute to the ambience, it made it almost impossible to read the menu.…Read More

Disappointing restaurant opened by a renowned chef
Jamie's Italian
2015-08-27
I've been here twice, and both were not up to my expectations. I would say, go to Jamie's Italian if you really have nothing else you want to eat. It won't be terrible but it won't be amazing either. It's mediocre at best.Food: 3.5/5I came here for lunch because I was craving pasta, and while it's not amazing, it's decent. Ordered the lobster linguini and a mushroom pasta. The mushroom pasta had pretty good flavour, so that was a thumbs up Also ordered Posh Chips, which are fries cooked in truffle oil and topped with parmesan cheese. The fries were absolutely dreadful, don't order them!!!Service: 4.5/5The service was definitely amazing, but for a good reason. Unlike practically all the restaurants in Hong Kong that add a 10-15% service charge to your bill, Jamie's Italian follows the western way where no service charge is included. So you tip according to whatever you feel the waiter deserves at the end of the meal. Therefore the waiter was very attentive to our needs, constantly filling up the water. I suppose this is a very good way to motivate waiters since many restaurants in HK don't really have that good of service and attitudes.…Read More
