Bad desserts & Service
Alva House
2024-10-17
The quality of the buffets at Alva has steadily gone down. Especially their desserts! We were quite disappointed with their desserts offered at the dinner buffet. The desserts offered did not taste nice. And since there was still over an hour left for the dinner service, we asked if they were going to put out other types of desserts later, but sadly, they told us “no, that’s all they have”. When we expressed our dissatisfaction to the staff and Assistant Manager - Lam, they didn’t do anything about it, had a bad attitude and told us that the nicer desserts are offered at their lunch session?! So why did we pay extra for the dinner buffet??All in all, it was a bad experience this time. Hope Alva’s Managemnet team can turn things around and improve their service and food offered.…Read More

Terrible Service!服务员态度极差!
Fast Gourmet (Shin Hing Street)
2021-05-29
Atmosphere: small & quaint. But it was very busy when we were there. In fact every table and chair in the restaurant was occupied, which I’m not sure if that’s allowed with the covid restrictions? We were definitely not sitting 1.5M away from the people to our left & right. It was more like 15cm apart from the people next to us. Service: 服务员态度极差! When the waitress explained the bill to us, her service & attitude was terrible! The choice of words she used was rude and the overall tone she used was Aggressive. She totally ruined our whole dining experience & the owner should have closer supervision over their staff and pay closer attention on properly training their servers. Food: The salted caramel espresso Lava croissant was good.Overall, due to the terrible experience we had with the server, I wouldn’t recommend this place as we would not go back again ourselves. We can find good croissants at many other bakeries in HK.…Read More

Coolest Starbucks in HK
Starbucks Coffee
2021-01-02
This has to be the coolest Starbucks in HK! It is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of HK on a cute & quiet little street. In the middle of a nice staircase at the end of Duddell street, is the door to this hidden Starbucks. Once inside, you will find a modernly decorated corner of the store to your right. But the real treat is when you walk a little further inside... You will find yourself in a uniquely decorated Starbucks like no other. Decorated like a old fashion HK cafe with HK childhood memorabilia & iconic scenes of HK. It’s like taking a step back in time in HK. It’s really cool to chillax in a different, non-cookie cutter styled Starbucks. Elevating the overall experience that much more. In addition to the retro decor, this Starbucks also provides nice service & a special menu! Like pineapple bun with butter (a HK Staple), or toasted marshmallow hazelnut waffles, etc. Making the trip here even more special. And the cherry on top of all of this is the peace & quiet ambience! On a late Saturday afternoon, it is quite relaxing to just enjoy a cup of coffee with soft jazz in the background. (Hope it stays quiet like this! As it’s part of the charm.) I’d recommend checking this place out if you’re in Central. …Read More

Small portions & Average Experience
Te Quiero Mucho
2020-11-18
I’ve seen this restaurant in passing before and wanted to give it a try as the decor inside looked appealing and I’m a big fan of Mexican food. However, we were a bit disappointed with the overall experience. To start, they did not reserve a table for us like we had requested in the booking. So we had to sit at the balcony bar table area. Luckily, the weather was nice, so it was actually kind of pleasant to sit outside and do a little people watching. We had a set menu and was unimpressed by the portion of the food. The portions there were all quite small (except for maybe the “Mexican Pizza”, but I’ll get to that later.) We started our meal with the Ceviche Tostada, but the fish was overcooked, so that was a bit disappointing. We also ordered their Watermelon Aguas Frescas to drink. It’s supposed to be like a watermelon lemonade, but there was too much lemon juice and not enough sweetness nor flavor from the watermelon to balance the acidity in the drink. It basically felt like I was drinking lemon juice with a twist of watermelon, when it should’ve been the other way around. Then we had the Huaraches & Tlayuda for our main dishes. The taste of the Huaraches was ok but the portion was quite small. The portion of the Tlayuda or “Mexican Pizza” would’ve been ok, but it was so burnt around the outside of the pizza that we could only eat the center of it, so that made the edible portion smaller. The Tlayuda was tasty with a hint of spiciness from the chorizo, but we just couldn’t believe they would serve such a burnt piece of food to us. For dessert, we had Churros con Chocolate. Though it took a long time to finally get our dessert, the churros was served fresh, hot, and crispy and the chocolate sauce was nice. These may not have been the best churros in town, but it was a pretty decent dessert. …Read More
