A Birthday Dinner~
H One
2012-02-18
It's been a while since my last post (two years)~ lol, anyway, here it is~Her Birthday... the initial first choice was Caprice at the Four Seasons, but then it was booked out (Friday night). After browsing around, ended up with H One. Before commenting on the food, my first suggestion would be to "hire someone who can speak fluent english to attend the phone", Food: Brought us the bread basket~ For the entrée, we had the pama ham - i personally luv parma ham, so dont have much to say. The truffle honey sauce is something new though~scallop carpaccio - had uni and caviar on topFor the main, she had the slow cooked pork belly while i had the "little boy" 10 oz steak. Do apologize for not having photos for these, those were taken with her phone~Comments: Fine dining~ we couldnt get the window seat~ but then again, the table offered to us allows us to enjoy the harbour view together since we were sitting sideways facing the window instead of only one facing out. Food was superb, dont have to compliment on the taste. Try it for yourself~ bonus mark (+1) for the food being served was warmed Downside: The young lady attended us couldnt speak fluent cantonese (-1) nor fluent english (-1), she brought us the chalk board with the specials of the day~ ordered the scallop carpaccio from there then after ordering the pork belly~ i asked her:"i prefer steak, what would you recommend?" She pointed at the first line of the first page and said :"this is steak". I responded by saying :"Yes, yet there's also the slow cooked beef cheek and the sirloin. What difference is there?" I seemed to know more about their menu than her... kinda disappointed there. I asked for my steak to be cooked 'rare" came out to be medium rare. They came to apologize and asked if i wanted a replacement, didnt make a big fuss out of it. Just didnt finish it~Brought our own dessert~ Grand Hyatt - Chocolatier's Strawberry Vanilla Napoleon (not the actualy thing, but something like this)oh~ almost forgot, we had the USA pinot noir~ decent drop~ free coffee (since the steak was over cooked)last thing, read a few entries and the most of the complains comes from the "water". "Sparkling or Still" is a very common practice at a fine dining restaurent~p.s. i gave a 5 for value base of the fact that we were at a 25 floor restaurent at tin hau a week ago, bill was 15xx and H One is way better in terms of food quality.…Read More

In my dictionary, there's only three grades; excellent, decent and suck. This place would sit comfortably at the bottom of the "suck" section. We ran out of options on that night and unfortunately, we picked this place... that's when the nightmare began. "WE" consist of myself and my g/f and we ordered escago, steak, chicken winds and pasta. 1) Escago - didn't expect much from them, but it was worst than what I had in mind. "Frozen escago in milk sauce with freshly chopped, uncooked tomato" how does that sound?? Nice hey~~ 2) Steak - I ordered rare, turn out that the steak was too think to tell if it's rare or well done, plus it was marinated with tenderizer, what I called "cotton meat" yum!!! 3) Chicken Wings - best thing there is, nothing to pick on~ 4) Pasta - got told "our chef does it harder than normal" I was like huh??? But I gave them the benifit of doubt and said okay. Even though I have had authentic Italian pasta before and they don't do it "harder than normal". "Harder than normal pasta in lightly salted, very diluted cream sauce" woot woot~~I actually wanted to have a word with the chef and make a few suggestions, but my g/f told me it's not Hong Kong's culture to speak to the chef. So we finish off by drinking from our little plastic cup and left the place fully unsatisfied *sigh*"Money is never the issue, quality is what I look for"…Read More

I actually can't type chinese, but all thanks to my g/f Been living away from HK for the past 20 yrs, only been back for about a yr. I am a fan of the weekly megazine 飲食男女, that's when I came across 榤日本料理. I am someone who gets scolding from my own friends while eating out, because I will comment on the quality of the food and refuse to eat on some occasion... though I must say, 榤 is one of my personal favourite. After reading the other posts, I noticed most of the other 食家 averagely spend around $150-$300. I just have a little suggestion, try their "Omikase", even though it's a bit costly ($600), but for it's quality, it's a MUST TRY!!! I'd give it 10/10 personally, but I am sure it differs for everyone. "Money is never the issue, quality is what I am after" …Read More

Went with 3 friends on the night, i word sums it up "SUCKS"!!! Ordered "double skin milk", "Mango sago", "Fu Juk tong soui with sago tong yune added" and i had "hub tou lou with tofu fa". 1) Double Skin Milk - worst i've had (let's not compair it with "yee shun", milk was overcooked (solidified) and had a detergent smell. Had one scoop and that was it. 2) Fu Juk Tong Soui with Sago Tong Yune - looked like "diluted spoiled milk with these harden sago balls. 3) Mango Sago - that was the only NORMAL thing, just a little sweet for me. 4) Hub Tou Lou with Tofufa added - thickener more than anything... and they are suppose to be "FAMOUS FOR DESSERT"!!! …Read More
