…Read More

As a busy full time mom, what would you do if you have a half day off? I love to sit down in a small cafe for a slow breakfast. Here is the place. Its small, nicely deocrated, with daily inhouse made bread. Food is pretty standard. What makes this place special is the environment and a little chic chat sound behind the kitchen. The decor reminds me a lot those small local cafes in new york, nice n cosy. …Read More

HMV Bar & Restaurant
2016-10-10
Remember HMV? The entrance is hidding behind the 24hr welcome supermarket (facing the taxi stop) in CWB. It is probably 4 storey height. First two/three floors are for music, movies, and accessories. The top floor is HMV restaurant. It's stylish, fun, causal, spacious for family gathering as well as group party. They have high chair and kids meal. Every Wed n Sat live muisc. Food presentation look delicious, taste pretty standard. I like the dipping sauce, its the highlight of a meal. In terms of food type and price range, here is quite similar to the Outback and Ruby Tuesday. If you want to find a quiet place to chill, here definitely is the right choice.…Read More

i have been this area few times before, but hardly find the right food for my kid. I mean a casual comfy environment for a quick munch that wont cost few hundred bucks. Here got burger, pasta, fried rice, chinese noodle etc. Price is quiet decent considered where its locate, but dont expect too much. Food taste ok but no not outstanding. Hubby orders fried rice, the first thing i found some rice still in its white color, so im guessing someone probably only spend less than 5 mins to do the stiring job. Regardless the food quality, i like this place. Its a good place to chill, n my kid sleeps through 2 hours, thank you …Read More

Everything looks delicious from menu. First, choose a popsicle from fridge. Price range would be $28, $32, $36, $48 depands on which one you pick. Then you can request extra toppings, eg chocolate dip for $5, and each sprinkles topping costs another $5. I thought my 3 year old son would ask for toppings for fun, but he ends up choosing one doesn't blend with other fruit flavor. It just taste like a frozen strawberry puree which is very sweet n condensed. With not much effort, why this is the second expensive one ($36)?…Read More

Sushi Raku

The cheese tart, once is enough
MX On-Site Bakery (On Hong Commercial Building)
2015-11-14
This shop design catched my eyes when it was newly opened. It was a bit european style. I was excited to visit this shop today. At a glance the price of the pastries near front door definitely cost as much as those high end shops like agnès b. Café, cova, Thomas Trillion, Paul Lafayet etc. One piece costs over $30. Cakes are more decent. The counter near the backend kitchen sells cheese tart, without hesitation I bought one. I slightly heat it up at home and share it with my husband. The buttery crust is standard not surprising, but the fillings is very disappointing. It was gluey creamy cheese flavorless tart... I really can't tell why this is the signature. it definitely looks better than it taste. Gladly I only bought one.…Read More

Beef Noodles
2015-07-25
I've been this place many times since it first start opened. I love both soup beef noodle and cold noodle. Plus the garlic flavored cucumber. These are must try. The deep fried chicken and cumin spice skewers are nothing special. There are shops (in Shau Ke Wan) can make better taste than this.I stopped coming this place after I came here for dinner about 6 months ago. It was a long line filled up with customers. They gave better seat to westerners even though we were the first people on the line. Then they arranged us to sit on a corner with a small temporary foldable table and chair against a canned drink wall. We didn't mind to sit there but I did mind they were not fair to the situation. I complained and they made up some story to comfort me. Then we waited for over 30mins to get our noodles. When we were about to order skewers after finished the noodles in 10mins (seriously or less), the waitress cleaned up our desk including taking away our chopsticks. When I told her I wasn't done ordering, she starred at us and said "REALLY?" Oh gosh, no matter how much make up you groom yourself, you are still rude. There were four japanese sat on a table behind us. They seems finished their food only ordered drink to chat for a long while. The waitress wouldn't give them pressure. When I paid my bill in the front door, I complained to the person in charge (who looks like owner's mum). She even ignored us said "oh well, we are all like this". I guess if you were me, it does make sense not wanting to come.Recently, I brought my asian friend to try this place again. I thought the service would be nicer, but the fact is NO. NO. NO. Noodle is good, but not worth to suffer again from the rude customer service.…Read More

Basmati Taste of India
2015-06-14
Tonight husband and I found this indian restaurant after we shopped at the Westerner Market which was two blocks away from the Sheung Wan MTR. This time we wanted to order something we normally wouldn't order in an indian restaurant, such as Tandori Fish, Prawn Biyani, Samosa Chat, Curry Mushroom Chicken, Masala Papadam and dessert Kheer.Tandori Fish - Tandori Chicken is a safe option we normally choose, but never try the fish one. They used 馬友. The meat was firm with some tiny fish bones, and seasoned with a hint of Indian spices. The grilled fish didn't have the red color as what I thought the Tandori chicken would be, and it didn't have much sweetness. I guess that's why Chinese use this type of fish for preserved salty fish. Samosa Chat (deep fry Samosa with a cucumber yogurt sauce on top) - Samosa (this wrapped with veggie n potato mix) is another safe option we would order on every visit. But with a yogurt sauce on top is totally different. The thick yogurt sauce with cucumber and red + green sauce fully covered the samosa which sadly soften the crispy crust. If you want to experience this, I would suggest you either ask to seperate the sauce aside. Or simply order two dishes (Samosa + Cucumber Raita).Prawn Biyani (Indian Prawn fried rice) - When this curry color mushy fry rice came to my table, I didn't expect the first bite was that good. It has strong flaovr and definitely salty after three more bites, but I still enjoy this a lot. Unexpectedly the shrimp has its flavor. I packed the left over back home Masala Papadam - It's a salted filmsy crisp with chopped purple onion, tomato, small bite of cilantro on top. This was very fragile and it might fall all over your plate easily. The topping was a bit flavorless.Garlic Nan - This flatbread was hot, crispy and yummy. It definitely reached the standard but I still prefer the one from Clay Oven in Kenndy Town. That's the best I'd so far. When you ordered Naan, u should order curry as well. They always went well together. So we tried the Curry Mushroom Chicken. It's a bit sweet, not too spicy, thick gravy looking curry sauce with chicken and canned mushroom inside. Not outstanding. To end the meal, I orginally wanted to order the Kulfi (traditional Indian ice cream). However it wasn't available. So we had the Kheer (Indian rice pudding). If you never enjoy sweetened rice on soup, then don't go for this. It was garnish with coconut, but didn't have the taste at all. Instead I felt like I was having a rice pudding on a sweet condensed milk soup. Not my favorite.Haven't mentioned this place is spacious. On the night when we visited, there were over 30 Indian tourists came here for dinner. So I guess here must be authentic. There is a small open area corner with a pair of antique style 'king and queen' red chairs. Guess what, the waitstaff told me this place can be used for wedding. I'd attended a wedding with hundreds of guests in India before. It would be nice to see this tradition in Hong Kong.…Read More

Too similar texture, can't tell the difference
Bread Show (Opulent Building)
2015-06-13
Heard this Taiwanese bread shop from my friend before, over half of the breads in the shop have taste samples for customers to try. No kidding, almost 'all you can try' samples in a big thumb size! So generous~! I already felt stuffed after trying 7 kinds of bread. The first bite I had was cream chesse bread. It was really what it said, the bread was filled up with lots of cream cheese inside. Unlike some famous chain shops sold foamy and light bread in HK, this one had enough fillings, not stingy at all. The bread was firm and gummy like a softer version of bagel. The similarity of gummy texture and creamy cheese blend in quite well together. It was fullfilling. However, this gummy cheesy feeling carry on for the rest the 6 different breads I'd tried. That means I couldn't tell the difference. To find out why, I'd tried few of the samples I'd again. I still couldn't get the result. So I bought some breads home. In order to taste the house signature, I asked staff to give me the hotpicks in shop. Mentaiko (Japanese spicy fish roe) was the one. I bought it with walnut raisin bread and garlic ham bread together.I made a cup of tea, and tried the bread at home in a quiet environment. Seriously the best seller gave me no surprise. The cheese was too much while the mentaiko taste so mild. Hardly tell if mentaiko was included.Overall, if you like something gummy and cheesy to fill up your tummy, this might be good for you. Almost 'all you can try' taste samples and very welcoming customer service, hardly find a bread shop in HK would do that. But whether I like the bread or not, it's another issue. Just like choosing a cup of Taiwanese bubble tea... i seldom drink it because I'm not a big fans of bubble. And these are not my type of bread.…Read More

Recently I've become a regular customer here
Ca-Tu-Ya
2015-06-10
When husband and I found this place first time about 6 mths ago, we know nothing about this shop. We gave it a try because we didn't want to end up going the same place for dinner. It was full of people at night and we need to wait 10 mins for a table. The interior reminded me the local cheap eat chain stores in Japan. For the first time visit, we tried the Kimchi pork chop pot udon set and the Deep fried pork cutlet (80g) with curry sauce on rice. The picture menu looks mouth watering, but I doubt the real food would match. The Kimchi pot first arrived in 5mins, it was full of ingredients incluidng lots of kimchi, meat, veggie, etc. The broth wasn't too spicy, and the udon was chewy and tasty. It was only $59 but very fullfilling. The second dish came within 10mins. The size of the fry pork cutlet was longer than a palm size, and the short grain rice looked shiny with great chewy texture. The curry sauce was quite standard and the portion was big enough if I wanted to share it with my husband. The food quality was surprisingly as good as lots of good Japanese pork chop places in town, and the price is similar to those local chain like CafeDeCoral, Yoshinoya, Fairwood, etc. Cheap eat Good food value, why not!! If you come here during the afternoon-tea-time, the deal is even cheaper. The portion was definitely enough for a person. With the food quality, good price range and decent amount of food, I'm always happy to be here with friends or even by myself.…Read More

Groupon TAKE AWAY food, not for me again
Kam's Kitchen
2015-06-10
I'd tried two different famous Kam's restaurants in one day. I even ordered the same combination (roast goose and roast pig on rice) as well. I thought I could have compared which Kam's is better. At the end I couldn't get any result. I bought the groupon deal without looking at the details carefully. It was for TAKE OUT only! That means the hot food was kept in a sealed container which the hot air might steam a soften skins. Perhpas that's the reason, all pieces of roast pig had soft soggy chewy skin. And the meat was too fat.For the roast goose, the juicy goose oil on rice smell and taste good. I felt like eating rice from Hai Nan Chicken. But I stop eating it after few bites, it was a bit oily. The meat doesn't have much overpowering seasonings on it which was good for me, but same time it has the goose wild smell. And it has too much fat underneath the crispy skin. The plum dipping sauce was quiet standard not much surprise. So for your first time visit, please don't order take out. Always dine in.The pleasure of eating roast dish is all about layering. Imagine the slightly salted tender meat with a thin layer of fat and a crispy skin on top, it make a perfect score of a day. Missing one will be a mistake. Base on this, I would only rate 3 out of 10.…Read More

Kam's Roast Goose
2015-06-06
This shop has been opened for a while but hardly find a reason to come visit becoz of the location. It locates on main street Hennessy Road not too far from Wanchai MTR but with quite nothing around. I came here after the golden rush lunch hour was almost over. Looking around the tables, everyone here ordered set lunch A which was rice with 2 toppings, today's soup and one appetizer. So I followed the majority. Normally my preference is always roast pig, second pick will be charsiu. So you can tell I don't have much experience on roast goose. But it would make no sense if I did't try the house signature. So I ordered it with roast pig together. The Roast goose had shiny crispy skin, very thin layer of fat underneath, n quite lean meat, no smell, not oily, no overpowering spices, almost couldn't tell if they put seasoning. The goose was perfect to kick off the meal. The plum sauce on the side was tasty too, it was unlike anything you could easily find everywhere. It tasted quiet different, i would say natural, it was a semi sweetened sauce with rich plum flavor and sourness. Usually, I'm satisifed without a dipping sauce. But I did use it twice to finish up the last two bites, the plum sauce was tasty. For the roast pig, I didn't enjoy it as much as the crispy goose. Among the 7 pieces, 3 of them had soft soggy skin. Those 3 happened as my last 3 pieces, how sad!!! Consider with the Michelin Star title and not take out food in a sealed container, I didn't expect accident. One thing I couldn't understand was why I felt so thirsty after the meal? If you plan to spend similar amount of money I did on your first time visit, I suggest you not order the set. Instead, go for the 'Triple Roast Goose with 2 other options' on rice. It is only $60. This way you can try more varieties. If I've seen this on the bigger menu book earlier, I could have choose my favorite Charsiu. It's sad again.…Read More

想試燒烤就選放題 (只適用於中環和尖沙咀店), 不要買團購
Morihachi Yakiniku
2015-05-21
…Read More
