Incredibly expensive, but no free orange juice
ARGO
2023-07-10
The buffet was a lot smaller than I expected. There was a small dessert section, that was outside in the lobby area, and then a seafood, dimsum, soup, Chinese, western, Asian section inside, but the options was quite limited. I first had a seafood platter that consisted of gigantic shrimps and snails - these were succulent and delicious, followed by some crab legs, crabs and mussels. The shrimps and snails were by far my favourite, and I had another round of these. The siu mai dim sum and the char siu were done very well, with the char siu a good balance of fat and meat. On other plates, I had some spanish ham, a delicious thin steak with peppercorn sauce, which I think was sous vied since it was so bouncy, some fruits and brownie and cream desserts. The desserts were fascinating as the taste of them don't hit you until after a few bites. What was most disappointing though, was that there were no juice stations. All we were served for drinks was water, we had to pay an extra $100+ for one glass of orange juice. The price total was $1700+ for 2 people. Overpriced for such a small buffet area, and no free drinks! …Read More

Decent topping but nothing spectacular
Zagin Soba
2023-07-08
Came here with 5 other people. I got the standard chicken ramen and some fried chicken karage. The broth was good but nothing spectacular. The noodles however were one of the best I've had in Hong Kong; yellow, slightly thicker, and very firm. The toppings of a chicken breast and a very slicely thin char siu were only okay, the char siu was way too thin, and the chicken breast felt out of place and didn't enjoy it at all. But there was this fried 'greater burdock' on top of the ramen that was delicious. The karage was okay. I also had a bite of the tsukemen, and it was good but again, didn't blow my mind away. Very expensive bowl of ramen, it was $150 for this bowl, and it didn't even come with an egg. Incredibly overpriced. The star of the ramen was the firm noodles and the fried topping, everything else was mediocre. …Read More

Good broth, tough beef slices
Pho Nhat Vietnamese Cuisine
2023-06-19
I got the beef pho with a variety of meats and she got the beef ball pho. The broth was good, very slightly sweet on some sips, and hearty. The noodles were a bit thicker than my liking, but by far the worse part was the sliced interim beef brisket; the two to three chunks of brisket slices I got were so chewy that I nearly choked. It was almost impossible to separate the brisket with my teeth so I had to stick the whole chunk, the size of half an iPhone, into my mouth. Took me more than 50 seconds to finish chewing it. The raw beef was decent and beef balls were okay. Added some sriracha for more kick. The chicken wings were average, I personally am not a big fan of the meat taste - reminded me of thai fried chicken wings that also have a similar flavor, possibly related to the fish sauce marinade. She didn't want the liver paste and shredded pork in the bahn mi, so we got it without those. It was still pretty good, the baguette was nice and flaky.Ordered:22132 - beef ball pho22136 - Raw beef and sliced interim brisket with beef ball pho33021 - Bahn mi with duck liver paste, shredded pork, viet sausage and pickles cucumberA05      - Vietnamese butter chicken wings…Read More

Great outdoor seating
Emmer Pizzeria & Café
2023-03-28
Amazing outdoor seating area. We arrived here on a Wednesday before 8pm, and there were some empty tables but the place by far was not empty. There's an indoor section, but the outdoor section is beautiful, with many available seating's. There's a small but spacious garden area with a few tall trees that tower close to the restaurant, which gives off a good vibe. We got a whole parma pizza, a charcuterie board, house red wine and gin and tonic. This is a self-serve kind of place, so we were able to get our own bottles of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The pizza was nice, but the parma and the cheese and all the toppings only encircled a small part of the pizza. Towards the outer side of the pizza was just bread. Food and 4 alcoholic drinks were around 500…Read More

A small meal, good, but nothing to cry home about
CIAK - All Day Italian (太古城中心)
2023-03-13
Arrived here on a Sunday at around 5:30pm, me and girlfriend were catching an early dinner before a movie, and as expected, there wasn't that many people at around this hour. Only a few tables. We ordered burrata with parma ham and cheese and the carbonara pasta. The table came with complimentary bread with olive oil and vinegar. Bread was decent, any place that has olive oil and vinegar is a plus already. The burrata with parma ham was okay, the parma was thick and the burrata was slick and gooey but firm on the outside. The portion was okay, there was 3 big parma slices, 4 hardboiled egg size burrata and rocket. The carbonara pasta was good, the pasta itself was cooked al-dente dente it was very firm and sturdy. They pasta was rough, had crudes and crevices, it was definitely hand made. the carbonara itself was yellow in color, and on the first taste had an explosion of umami and saltiness. But the flavour quickly dissipated, it felt like the flavour only happened on the initial bite. 2 persons for 1 appetizer and 1 pasta was 400+…Read More

Great selection of free sauces
袁記雲餃
2023-02-16
We came here at around 2pm on a sunday, and there were a lot of free seats. I got the set of 10 corn wontons in soup, and she got 10 chinese shives and meat dumplings in soup. For sides, we got malat wood ear, some lettuce, and fried dumplings. All of them were decent, I liked the malat wood ear particularly. The great thing about this place, was that there was a station for sauces. There was their own chiu chow chili oil, soya sauce, red vinegar, black vinegar, and some spring onions. Girlfriend said it reminded her of her time in Beijing, the way the sauces were stationed like that, and the service style too.Unforunately, I did not look carefully at the order and the picture on the menu. What came was a giant bowl of soup with wontons, but no noodles. Devastated, I was about to ask the waiter for some noodles when she came with our other dishes, and she instantly knew exactly what I want, and asked: "you want noodles? X dollars." Seems like a common mistake here. What place just has wontons in soup without noodles? Not my style. The noodles were overcooked and clumped together. But there's a lot of them. The corn wontons were great, but after 6 or 7, it lost it's power. I can't eat the same wontons over and over again, but the minimum order per set is 10. I suggest that they reduce this to 4 or 5, so that I could try other flavours. Or even 3 different ones in one set, and 3 each, so 9 wontons. I'd pay the same amount for 1 less wonton, but 3 different types. Girlfriend bought this cause I got the 1200 dollar dinner the other night, so I don't really remember the price. It was around $170, including 2 bowls of wontons, 3 sides, 2 drinks, and extra noodles. …Read More

Less than half-packed on a Wednesday Evening
Gaia Ristorante
2023-02-16
Came here at around 8pm, and there was an abundant of outdoor seating. It's got a romantic feel to it, with the candles, tablecloth, dim lighting, and sitting outdoors. It wasn't that packed, in fact there was a lot of seats and I was surprised, since I use to come here a lot with my parents more than a dacde ago for fancy birthday dinners. Tonight, I was accosted by a friendly waiter who convinced me and my girlfriend to grab a table, as we were both looking over at the menus. We said why not. My girlfriend loved the vibe, it reminded her of her hometown, where most of the restaurants have tablecloths and are outdoors. We ordered a beer, a glass of wine, the parma ham with burrata cheese and tomatoes, and rabbit stew pappardelle pasta - for the celebration of the new year rabbit. Some bread came and we had bottles of olive oil and vinaigrette already stationed at the table. The prosciutto was good, but the rabbit stew pasta was a bit under seasoned and the portions was quite small. We love the vibe here, but the food doesn't seem to be as good as it was before. The food is still good, and we'd come here again for the vibe and decent food. Around 580 not including drinks. Quite expensive. …Read More

Valentine's disappointing
Gusto - Taste Italian
2023-02-16
Booked here for 9pm for Valentine's day. We arrived late around 9:30, and there were still quite a lot of people, but also a couple of empty tables. We chose to sit outside. The tables we sat at were pretty small, it could fit only two entrees including our plates and drinks. We ordered the cold cut platter and four cheese ravioli, beers and lychee martini. The cold cut platter was okay, there was a cheese in a tomato snack that was okay. Everything on the plate was ok, nothing spectacular, and the salami was below average. The four cheese ravioli was quite disappointing. Not enough salt, lacked flavour and definitely didn't feel like 4 cheese, more like 1 cheese. Lychee martini was too sweet, not enough alcohol. Not a great valentine's place, or a regular date place. The good thing about this place was that there was an outdoors. …Read More

Not bad
Sake And Yakitori
2023-02-10
We came here at around 9:15pm on a Thursday night. There weren't that many people, only 2 tables were occupied when we arrived. I ordered some sake and she got a Sapporo beer. We ate a lot, but it was really only me doing all the eatingork Neck, Pork Sausage, Mushroom with cheese, Chicken Intestine, Chicken soft bone, Chicken gizzard, Chicken Wings, Chicken tails, Ox Tongue,  Duck Tongue, Shishito Peppers, Eggplant, Chicken  sausage with egg dip, Long Taro, Goose liver, Grilled Tofu, Ginko nutsChicken wings to me are the metric for what a restaurant quality is, and the chicken wings here are not bad. Of all the food I had here, I liked the Ox tongue, which was especially thick compared to other restaurants, the goose liver (which I haven't had before in other yakitori restaurants), and the mushroom with cheese which reminded me of a cheeseburger. The pork neck was also good. The pork sausage with chicken wing bone was good, but it felt a bit underseasoned, the shishito peppers too felt like it lacked taste. They offer the miso paste as is custom in many other yakitori places, but we had to request for rock salt. The bill came at 1200, including a 300ml sake and 2 beers. I would come back here to try more of their seafood options which they have quite a lot of. …Read More

table for six good fried rice, slow service
Thai Basil
2023-02-01
We got a table for six on a Tuesday at 7:30pm, we all arrived on time. We had to ask a server to take our orders 3 times before she had time, they are either short on staff or the service was pretty poor. They didn't pour waters until 5-10 minutes after we ordered. Food is pretty okay, we got fish cakes, skewers, pomelo salad, pork neck, softshell crab, and pineapple fried rice. Pineapple fried rice was pretty good, pork neck sauce was good, and everything else was okay. 288 Per person, we all got one drink. …Read More

Me and my girlfriend came here at around 9pm on a Friday, and it was 90% packed. We were sat and our tables were pretty close to the ones next to us. Thankfully the place was loud and boisterous, so there was some semblance of privacy between each tables. We got several skewers, and the minimum order for per dish is 2 sticks.  We got 2 chicken tail, 2 chicken soft bone, 2 green peppers, 2 chicken wings, 2 chicken meat. Girlfriend liked the chicken tail a lot, so we got another order (she usually doesn't like skewers that much). We also bought a bottle of sake for around 600, and it was buy one get one free.  And we didn't finish the sake so we bought home the second one. Overall the cost was around 1200 for 2 people, including the 600 bottle of 2 sakes. Food was good, and it came pretty quickly too. The seating is pretty intimate and can get loud at times especially on weekends. …Read More

The Charcoal Room

It was completely packed when we arrived, and there was one table left, which was tucked all the way in the corner away from most tables, and closer to the kitchen. This table provides more privacy, but it's also closer to the kitchen and cleaning staff, so it'll be louder in that way. The food is good, we ordered the A4 Wagyu rib eye, Korean soybean paste soup (which comes with a bowl of rice),  and some pork, and 2 additional bowls of rice. With customs of KBBQ, the appetizers were free and also came with some cold roasted barley tea. The Wagyu was sliced incredibly thin, and it was delicious. Pork was great, and we mixed in our rice into the soybean paste soup. The food here is decent. We also ordered 2 bottles of soju, one lemony flavoured and another one a special flavour. The special flavour one was not good. $750+ for this meal. Pretty decent, considering the 2 soju's cost 200-300. …Read More

Not  a lot of people on a Tuesday night. We were almost the last ones by 8:30pm. Good service, the lady was very nice. Food is above average, but nothing spectacular. We ordered chicken wings, sausages, chicken soft bone, beef skewer, beef tongue, mushroom and green peppers. The greens vegetables were nice, but chicken wings were a bit small to my liking. My favourite was the sausage, that's worth it.   It was around 400 for 2 people including the 12% discount from Openrice.  There was also an outdoor seating area. …Read More

Came here on a Tuesday night, there were some people but not fully packed. We got the hummus with lamb bits and pita bread for apps. Delicious.Mixed meats including Beef tenderloin, lamb chops, and grilled chicken for the main, that came with a side of rice and fries. Decent. Can't really go wrong here. Finally got the cauliflower, that was maroon in colour and had a mild kick of spice and would flake off in your mouth. Now that's something to cry home for. Absolutely Delicious. I would definitely come back and try other mains, but the cauliflower and hummus will be on my menu again. $400 per person. …Read More

Santorini Greek Taverna

The two of us chose to sit outside on a Saturday, and I was surprised to see that there was nobody in the outside section but us, because the 5th floor view of Wanchai was incredible. There was a 20 person party in one of the private rooms, and at one point they all came out to take pictures of the view. It's a bit hot as it's mid-july, so be wary that sweat might be on the menu. But it was worth it. We didn't eat as much, as we mostly drank their red and white wines, which were good. We had the Tzatziki dipping sauce with pita bread, so delicious. The sauce is so simple but effective and I couldn't stop dipping my pita bread into it. We also had the smoked eggplant with cheese which was also very good. They smoked the entire eggplant, and presented the whole eggplant in front of us, I've never eaten an eggplant like that before. The texture on top was gooey and soft from the cheese, and bottom of it was ever-so slightly crunchy.  This place is worth it, even just for the view.   The bill came to $800+ from 10 glasses of wine and 2 appetizers.  …Read More
