Quick Chirashi bowl
Superdon (Lockhart Road)
2017-03-30
Came here for dinner around 8:30. There's no wait and the staffs were very attentive in getting me seated. I ordered the uni, toro, salmon roe don. All the sashimi are fresh, but mediocre quality. Also the amount in the picture doesn't match up to the actual amount given in the bowl. For the price, I think there are a lot more options in cwb to eat this. …Read More

Late night ramen
Betsutenjin
2014-07-29
It was late at night and there were barely any ramen places still open in TST, so found this place to satisfy that ramen craving. I got the sakura shrimp broth and the gyoza set for $110. The gyozas here are not good. It's not crispy and the filling tasted bland. For the ramen though, I love the soup broth. It's not too salty and it says on their sign that it's without msg or milk! The ramen noodle comes a little too soft for my own personal preference. The meat here is also not as good as the other ramen places in hong kong. It's chewy and salty. Wouldn't mind coming back, but not the best choice in Hong Kong.…Read More

New favorite Singaporean
Old Town Restaurant
2014-07-28
This is a great spot for lunch if you work around central area. The wait is not too bad and the food comes out fast! It's fast food speed but the food is definitely up to par. I love the lunch set that comes with a bowl of laksa along with a plate of hainan chicken rice. The laksa is full of flavors and definitely have enough ingredients to keep you away from eating only plain vermicelli. I also like the soup which is not too salty. The hainan chicken is the best! It's tender and not chewy at all! I also like the authentic dipping sauces for the chicken. Will definitely come back for more lunch meals! …Read More

Smoked salted caramel ice cream sandwich
Elephant Grounds
2014-07-27
The must try item at elephant grounds for me is probably that amazing salted caramel ice cream sandwich! It's only available on weekends with limited quantity for now. So go early! The cookies outside are super crunchy chocolate chip cookies and then it's paired with salted caramel ice cream. The ice cream is so smooth it will not be hard to finish a whole one by yourself. I also love the small bag of sea salt it comes with for you to sprinkle on top of the ice cream sandwich. The only thing though is the salt is hard to pour out when it's attached to the ice cream sandwich wrap. Other than that, the sandwich is pretty AMAZING! …Read More

Macau coffee heaven
Single Origin Coffee
2014-05-19
Can't live a day without coffee, not even when in Macau! Found good reviews about this place and ended up paying a visit. A very tiny coffee shop but it's fill with lots of coffee related decoration that will keep any coffee lovers occupied. The baristas there are very helpful and extremely friendly. I asked what he recommends from the shop and he suggested I try their ice dripped coffee. The coffee bean of the day for the ice drip is tchembe from the USA. This bean is very limited. As my drink came out, the barista will give a brief description of the drink and how to enjoy it best. He said the coffee will taste strong at first but as the ice ball melts, it will change in taste. The coffee is not bitter at all but rather flowery and a bit sour. Very refreshing drink for a hot day. Also, love the water cup that comes with it to help you cleanse your palette between sips to get the best taste of the coffee. I also had the earl grey chiffon cake which was delicious as well! The cake was moist and soft. The earl grey tea flavor is also very pleasant! Another delicious drink I ordered was the affagato. A creamy shot of espresso poured over a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The shot was so smooth and creamy that it's not bitter to drink by itself at all! But having that scoop of ice cream to go along was a cherry on top! Overall, enjoyed this place a lot! Will come back whenever I'm in Macau!…Read More

Monday surprise!
HABITŪ table
2014-03-18
I never knew caffe habitu-the table would have to go coffee as well. On top of that, they are also doing a drink promotion every Monday. This week is buy one get one free on their earl grey latte. So for the price of $45, you get two! I've never had anything else from their drink menu except for the rose latte. Since the deal was so good, I gave it a try. The latte has very strong earl grey tea flavor and the tea was very good quality since it wasnt bitter at all. The only down side to this drink is probably if you are a regular coffee drinker like me, I prefer a stronger coffee taste in my drinks. This earl grey latte doesn't do that for me. It's more like just a plain tea latte rather than having coffee in it. Overall, it's a yummy drink! I would need to take more advantage of the "surprise monday" special to try out their other drinks! …Read More

truly common lunch
Common Room
2014-03-13
Common room has an anti-pasta semi buffet lunch starting at $138 and up depending on rather you want an entree or not. The salad bar buffet has variety of salads and cold dishes like smoked salmon, herb cooked shrimp, cesar salad, grilled vegetables, and variety of toppings to create your own salad. Then there's also a soup of the day included in the semi-buffet. Everything from the salad bar was fresh and delicious but nothing unique that stood out. They are all very common dishes that you can find anywhere. Adding $40 you can get an entree of Grilled Rib Eye steak which is served with broccolli, carrots and bearnaise sauce. The price does sound very appealing since it's only $40 more. But I guess you get what you pay for. The beef was chewy and overly salted and doesn't taste fresh at all. It's like beef that has been marinated in sauce for too long. The slice was very thin and definitely did not satisfy my cravings for a good piece of meat. This is definitely a bad entree choice if I were to come again. Then the lunch set came with a choice of tea or coffee. There were very limited choices for tea (earl grey, green tea) and only black coffee. I decided on having a cup of earl grey and it was brought to me with the tea bag and a cup of hot water. This made me feel like I was in a very cheap hk cafe that serves bad food. The water was also not very hot as well. Common room has a very nice ambiance, but the quality of the food served at lunch totally did not live up to the restaurant. Their lunch menu definitely needs to add some new elements in order to compete with all the surrounding competitions.…Read More

New Coffee flavor
Juchheim
2014-03-07
I always see long lines wrapped around this tiny booth in the sogo supermarket. But finally I see a day without too many people lining up, so decided to give it a try. I got the special flavor of the day, which was a coffee flavor cake. The cake itself is very soft and you can actually peel the layers off one by one. The outside layer also has a light sugary coating to add a little bit sweetness to the cake. As for the coffee flavor though, there's not much coffee I can taste from the cake. The cake itself is very good, but I probably wouldn't get the coffee flavor again. I'll definitely come back to try the original flavor next time when I crave for some cake!  …Read More

Classic Chinese noodle shop
Tsim Chai Kee Noodle (Wellington Street)
2014-03-07
If you want a quick simple bowl of noodle, tsim cha kee is not a bad choice. I love how the place is clean compare to similar Chinese noodle shops. The menu is simple, there's only three choices for toppings (shrimp wonton, fishball, beef) and four types of noodles (egg noodle, vermicelli, flat noodles, rice noodle)  to choose from. Then there's veggies with oyster sauce and couple of sodas and tea to choose from as well. The bowl is not too big, but the noodle really fills to the top. The broth itself is not too salty but has rich enough flavor to make the whole bowl of noodle not bland too bland. The shrimp wonton has huge whole shrimps in it so it's crunchy and fresh. The wonton wrapping is so thin that I think my bowl was cooked a little too long so it was falling off. Other than that, the flavor of the wonton is delicious! The fish balls were amazing though. They are not your typical round shaped fishballs. It's fried lightly and then cooked in noodle soup before it's served. I think the wontons and fish balls are must get here!…Read More

Good morning
Cafe Deadend
2014-02-15
Cafe Deadend is tucked in a small street in Sheung Wan. I personally loved the outdoor seating area where theres plants growing down the walls so it's like a secluded little garden in front of the tiny shop. There's a long coffee bar table, then 3-4 tables inside the restaurant(but still open air seating). Then there's also around 3-4 outdoor tables as well. The inside tables were already full when I arrived around 9:30 on a Sunday morning, but we waited for about 15 minutes and moved to one of the inside tables.  poached eggs & crab meat with a cup of latte. This dish is made up with a piece of crispy toast top with crab meat and two poached eggs. I like the bread here a lot. It's super crispy and delicious. Nothing beats fresh bread! The two poached eggs were also very good with just the right amount of egg yolk running out. The hollandaise sauce also was very good with the whole dish. I love the salad greens with this sandwich because it made the dish not as heavy. The latte here is also very good! The breakfast menu here is very simple and very limited on choices. It seems like theres more choices for lunch. But overall, I love the environment for a chill weekend morning and for a good quality breakfast. Definitely will come back to try something from the lunch menu and the dessert section! …Read More

Smile for me
Smile Yogurt & Dessert Bar
2014-02-11
It's been a warm winter, so frozen yogurt for dessert in February is just perfect. This yogurt shop has always been so attractive with all the pretty displays of yummy yogurt creations. Stopped by after dinner and got "The Garden" and a make your own frozen yogurt cup. The make your own cup you can pick whatever you want on the plain yogurt. My friend picked something simple with strawberry and blueberry and topped with a raspberry sauce for free. The pick your own topping is a good choice if you like simple combinations or if you want something specifically that's not in any of the combinations that's already made. The fruits were fresh and the plain yogurt is smooth and creamy, but the raspberry sauce is very sour. "The Garden" on the other hand is a very good combination. It's not too sweet, not too sour, so just right. The layers from the bottom to the top are: frozen yogurt, strawberry meringues, homemade crumbs, more frozen yogurt, lychee rose syrup, Osmanthus Jelly, then topped with a puff pastry net and a stick of raspberry milkado. The toppings that stood out to me the most is probably the Osmanthus Jelly and the puff pastry net. The jelly was very refreshing with a hint of flowery Osmanthus tea flavor. The puff pastry is a great balance with the yogurt since its crispy like an ice cream cone. The lychee rose syrup is also very interesting in flavor. I love the strong aroma from the rose! It's not too sweet, so great for people that doesnt like too sweet. The crumbs is probably my least favorite topping out them all. I think they are too crispy and too big of a chunks. I like the crumbs from the yogurt store "Crumbs" a lot better. Also, the strawberry meringues are just ok..I didn't love the texture nor the taste. But overall, LOVED the whole "Garden" combination. I would definitely come back to try the other combinations.  …Read More

In love with matcha
Via Tokyo
2014-02-07
Via Tokyo can easily be named one of the best matcha dessert joints in Hong Kong. This time I stopped by to grab a matcha cone to go. The line for a seat was out the door, so to go would be the best way. The perfect swirled cone is already appealing without having a taste. But once you have a bite, you just can't stop. The ice cream is so smooth and filled with strong matcha aroma. Also, it's on the less sweeter side of typical ice cream, which makes it easy to finish the whole come by yourself. This is the spot to be if you want some delicious matcha sweets in your life!…Read More

Kitty coffee art
Allegretto
2013-12-16
Who can say no to a cute cup of cappuccino? This place is famous for the limited quantity 3D latte art on their cappuccino drink. Besides the fact that the cat looks very cute on my cup of coffee, the cappuccino is not bad as well. The foam is smooth and the espresso is fresh. Just wish this place has more pastry choices to go with my nice cup of coffee drink! …Read More

Chocolate everything
Chocoholic Cafe + Bar
2013-11-15
I have always been curious about this chocolate cafe place in Central. Finally got the chance to come for desserts after dinner. This place is really small and the lighting is very dim inside. Almost too dim for my preference.  Chocolate volcano ($53): It's a chocolate cake with melting center. The cake is very small, so if you decides to share with someone, you will probably get two bites each person. But the dessert is good in a sense that the chocolate really melts out from the inside. The cake on the outside is also very moist with just the right crispyness on the outer shell. The only thing I didn't like about it is how small it is for the price. Banana+Nutella crepe: This dessert also had the same problem with the portion being really small. There's probably 4 pieces of banans inside the crepe. It's just a typical crepe you can find anywhere. I dont think the food here is bad, but the for the price and the amount of food you get, I dont think its worth it. The plating of the food can probably do some improvement as well. As for the interior, the lighting is just too dark for it to be comfortable.…Read More

Chinese dessert night
Royal Dessert
2013-11-15
After watching a movie, walked over from Element mall to grab some chinese dessert. Decided on this steamed egg white with coconut. I loved the presentation and it smelled just like coconut when it was brought to the table. The steamed egg white was super smooth and it just had the right amount of sweetness. The coconut also really helped balance out the sweetness as well. The coconut is actually really small, so there arent a lot of steamed egg in there. Overall, lots of yummy dessert choices here. …Read More
