really bad service
Born Ga Korea Restaurant
2020-11-22
Traditional Korean bbq restaurant with Korean owner and staff. Food is good. They have a number of authentic Korean dishes you don't usually find in most other Korean restaurants in HK, e.g. grilled eel (which was delicious), raw soy sauce marinated crabs (didn't try as we don't eat raw crabs). bbq meat and soup were just average only.. pThe highlight was their service which was shockingly poor. Now i already went with 0 expectation on their service as my frd warned me beforehand. they still managed to surprise on the downside with their blunt request and crass service. highlight of the night include:1) when we were more than half way thru our meal, they asked if we could move to the main dining room as they have a group of customer that just arrived and demanded to be sitted in a room. we were in the middle of our meal with 10+ dishes spread over the table and still had grilled meat on the stove.... it's extremely insensitive to ask your diners to change table at this point. the simple reason they gave was they had some miscommunication with that booking and the main dining room was more spacious for us (lame). I told them I was fine with my table and prefer staying put.2) they subsequently turned the AC in the room on HIGH with wind blasting out on our food. both us and the table next to us noticed this immediately. they wanted to make the room so cold that we'd leave ASAP. 3) during the rest of the meal (about half an hour or so) they had different wait staff checking in on us EVERY 30SEC (no kidding), lurking around the room looking over our table with inquisitive eyes. they wanted to make sure we felt as uncomfortable as possible so we'd leave ASAP.what I'd give them credit for is the eel which was yummy and not something you'd find everywhere.despite the poor service, business was really good they were fully booked that night.…Read More

ok food, strange atmosphere
Bilibala Yakitori Bar
2016-05-23
went to check out this Yakitori based on the good review here and happened to be in the neighborhood of Haven st.we ordered about 10 Yakitori and some side dishes such as salad, fried chicken and the raw octopus to share and 2 drinks. i liked the octopus dish. it came raw (surprisingly. i was expecting grilled octopus) and had a good chewy bite. the dressing was wasabi flavor which worked out quite well with the raw fish. other dishes i liked were the minced chicken skewer and wagyu. overall food was alright. light in seasoning and nothing unfresh. but also nothing terribly outstanding. food is a 5/10.what i found strange was the vibe of this place. this Yakitori bar appears to be a place where the co-owners and affiliates (?) hang out and the number of co-owners and their affiliates far outnumbered the guests at the time of my visit. there were 8-10 bosses/wait staffs (they appeared to function as both) hanging around the bar area which made it quite crowded. some of them just sat on the kitchen countertop (inside the bar) and poured themselves drinks and just chatted very loudly away. then from time to time some waitresses/owners(?) will come get free drinks at the bar or just had a cluster of them standing around the bar chatting very loudly .... which made those of us who are actual customers sitting at the bar quite uncomfortable. nothing wrong with having friends over but u feel a bit weird when its predominantly filled with the ppl running/servicing the place and they are all very relaxed and wined like a guest when they are supposedly running a business. atmosphere i gave it a 3/10.overall food was alright but nothing outstanding. drink menu was a bit lacking compare to other similar setups. for Yakitori with casual atmosphere i prefer Torimen where services are alot more professional and attentive or Toritama which serves great Yakitori in a traditional setting.…Read More

huge mouse, huge surprise!!!!
Tate Dining Room & Bar
2016-03-22
Decided to give Tate a second visit but had a huge surprise towards the end of the meal. A HUGE mouse ran into the restaurant and was running right around our table!! But none of the staffs offered any explanation or did anything. Everyone acted as if nothing happened even though the mouse did cause quite a stir amongst the diners and i definitely got really scared when I realized a big mouse was running right around my feet 😬😬😧😱...I was quite surprised this could've happened in a restaurant like Tate. Both having a mouse running around the restaurant and how the staffs handled it afterwards. I was lucky enough to have been to a lot of the finer establishments both in Hong Kong and overseas but nothing like this had ever happened..Now back to the food and services before the incident. I obviously revisited coz I had a relatively pleasant first visit. Service was attentive and warm but food was rather bland and uninspiring this time. The only dish that stood out in terms of taste was the chawanmushi with grilled mushrooms... the rest of the courses were rather forgettable.I seldom write restaurant reviews but definitely had a huge shocking element this time. For any restaurant, especially one charging HKD 1k+ per person, i would expect hygiene to be the most basic of all. And worse none of the staffs offered any explanation.. which on its own was another failure in terms of handling overall customer experience.…Read More

bad
Kiriyaki

i thought i had to write this entry. this restaurant is a complete disappointment. ordered lamb chop, wagyu ox tongue (thick), korean bbq ribs(calbi), japaneese eggplant (way overpriced at $55 for 4 tiny pieces of what I couldn't distinguish as "japanese"), sashimi salad, tempura, stir-fried mushroom/asparagus, cod.they somehow managed to mess up ALL of these dishes. their meat was such a disgrace. the calbi barely had any taste and dipping sauce wasn't good either. lamb chop was nothing to write home about. cod was fishy and even something as simple as stir-fried vegetable wasn't up to par. sashimi in the salad wasn't fresh and was tasteless.lastly they had serious problem pacing the food. they should have brought the salad and tempura first then wait a little to bring out the meat and fish then vegetable. instead, the first that came was the eggplant and raw meat, then everything rushed to our table all of a sudden within 2 minutes including salad & tempura.service was not attentive. asked for fork and knives for the lamb chop but the waitress brought them to the table next to us. the guests were obviously confused at that table and as we indicated again we needed forks and knives the waitress took the knives and forks she already places on the other table and gave it to usall in all, i will never come back to this reataurant again…Read More

Delicieux Bistro

indeed their bami is absolutely delicious!! i love the lime grass pork bami even though you have to wait for like 10 mins for them to pan fried the pork after you place the order. on the other hand, the supreme bami (is it called "supreme"? the one that has a mixture of all stuffings) is just so-so. great for a quick bite. wish they were closer to the LKF side of central so I can pop over for lunch...…Read More

Never order their shabu shabu
Naozen Japanese Dining
2010-11-17
First visit was about 3 months ago. Came here for a sashimi dinner with friends on a friday night. The sashimi and sushi were pretty fresh. But to be honest, for the price we paid, we could be expecting this quality of fish in many other sushi venues in town. Nevertheless, still thumbs up for a good quality & tasty meal. Though I will probably choose somewhere else next time for a more comfortable interior given the price we pay ($2000+ for 3 I remember). Last week I came here again for dinner for its convenience of location. We ordered sushi, unagi don, and shabu shabu. The food was passable (only passable, sushi set was of normal quality, unagi don was alright but nothing to write home about) until the shabu shabu came almost more than half way through our dinner. They served *WATER* as soup base for their Japanese beef shabu shabu, presented by their Japanese chef!!! Now this really pissed me off as I've never seen any Japanese restaurants (not to mention one associates themselves with quality food) serving shabu shabu with *plain-o-WATER* as soup base. They didn't even care to sprinkle some stock powder or a mushroom or two to make it look less **bland**. So you could pretty much guess the nabe set didn't go well and the rest of the ingredients in the set were just generic. e.g. cabbage, cabbage, cabbage. I love shabu shabu but this was at the bottom of my experience. Overall I will not come here again. I could have gotten better food in many other places given their price.…Read More
