As You Like Restaurant

There's normally a queue outside this place in the evenings and always wondered what the big deal was.  So I decided to have dinner a little earlier one night to avoid it.  We got a table immediately, this was around 6:30pm.We ordered the chicken pot, mild spicy.  I'm glad we oredered mild, as I thought it was pretty spicy, to me it was more than mild, but not quite medium, it gets spicier as you go along.  Also some extras like beef, cheese sausages, wontons, Veg, glass noodles, dumplings, potato slices.Overall, it's one of those places worth trying once, it's nothing special.  Nothing really screamed out WOW to me, chicken was OK, the broth was a bit oily, Extras' portion size were a bit small.  Service was dull, didn't even get a glass of water/tea.  Spent about $450.  In my opinion, I'd rather have a normal hot pot.  Oh and the next day, the 2 of us did feel a slight stomach pain, the spicy oil perhaps.…Read More

Good Mussels & Pork Knuckle
FRITES Belgium on Tap (灣景中心大廈)

I absolutely adore mussels and fresh ones are hard to come by, I'm not a fan of fresh-frozen ones, they just don't taste the same.Frites House Mussels. We tried the 1/2Kg pot. Very tasty and loved it! Came with fries and a slab of bread to dunk into the sauce which was great.Bitterballen - Having grown up in Holland, this to me was NOT bitterballen, or at least not Dutch ones. It was the right shape (round balls) with breadcrumbs, but the filling was faaaaaaaaar from what it should be, a thick ragout/gravy filling. Instead it was full of mince and dry. Don't get me wrong, it tasted alright, but not Bitterballen and @$65 for 5 balls...nah.. my gf liked it, if any consolation.Steak Tartar - Big portion, quite an acidic mixture, but it was ok, worth a try.Pork Knuckle - Geez... this thing was humongous! Juicy, super crispy skin, meaty, gelatinous, the flavour and juices was soaked up by the veggies they were baked in, really good!Atmosphere wasn't too bad - dimmed lights, sports on the big screen. Had to share a table though (even with reservation). Service was far from impressive. Feels like they are just there to do a job, plonk the food on your table and that's it kind of attitude, no sense of friendliness from 3 different waitresses, except for one tall South Asian guy. When we left, even though the receptionist was at her seat, didn't even say goodbye, even after I said it to her. Too busy counting cash it seemed.…Read More

Well Worth A Try!
Maharani Mess
2012-07-13
I work in the area and have been past this place many times.Today, I had an urge for Indian spice but didn't want to do the usual Indian lunch buffet and stuff myself with so much that I fall asleep in the afternoon.I cannot eat a curry unless it has naan bread, so Ebeneezers was definitely out of the window. Walked past this place and looked at the lunch offers on the sign... *Chicken Curry-Check! *Naan-Check! *Pilau Rice-Check!On top of what I wanted:Small popadomLarge piece of Chicken Tikka Dahl(Lentils)Chinese Vegies??? (Choi Sum)OnionsSoft DrinkSo I finally gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised.:) The chicken was tender and I wasn't breathing fire. The naan was freshly made. For $55, I satisfied my craving and stuffed my belly! I will visit this place again.…Read More

There are enough negative comments here to support my overall experience. This message is really for the owner. Seriously if you are reading this, the food was poor, no excuses. Cream of broccoli soup, it was half a tea cup full. What was that about?A slice of Smoked salmon on top of boiled bland spaghetti is not buenisimo. One of my favourite dishes, Mussels in white wine sauce, yup, you killed it. You cannot substitute fresh mussels for freshly defrosted ones. If cost is an issue, don't serve it. I was served a single frozen cream puff for dessert, on its' own, no dressing, no chocolate sauce, no icing, no attempt to impress. Where did the creativity go? My overall impression of the place was that it was trying to do something beyond their capability and with minimal budget. IT DOES NOT WORK! Do it well or don't put it on the menu. The only positive comment i can give is that the waitress was nice, attentive and switched on. If by chance you are reading this, don't take this personally, but as a paying customer, we have certain 'basic' expectations which were far from being met. If this is a family business, I suggest you make some drastic changes. All the best.…Read More

Chippy
2011-10-21
I went here for lunch around, 12:30pm. A small cafe type set-up. There were a few customers, but had a couple tables available. The smell reminded me of chippies in the U.K and for a few moments it was quite comforting. Mind you, I doubt you'll be remenising once you leave, since the chippy smell will be well absorbed in your clothes by the time you leave and will follow you for the rest of the day.My order was "Fish & Chips Lunch Set". Pumpkin Soup + Sole Fillet, Chips, Beans(or Mushy Peas) + Soft Drink for $95 (No Sevice Charge)Soup - Was ok, tasted like pumpkin soup, nothing special. 6/10Fish - Very good, though it wasn't Cod, a big piece of Sole, fresh, flaked nicely, light crisp batter, bit of Salt & Vinegar, Mmmm.Delicious! 9/10Chips - Could have been chunkier, not greasy, good quality potato (no eyes). 8/10Beans & Tartar Sauce - Well, just beans and tartar sauce really. Service was friendly, the food came quickly, I've been here a few times already and I'd recommend it for anyone who misses a good chippy meal once in a while. They even have the Daily Mirror, if that's something you use to pick up in the morning. Fried Mars bars for the overly health conscious population looking to raise cholesterol levels to that of an average person. …Read More

1st impression wasn't great as we had to wait, alothough a table had ben booked! Fair enough, all good restaurants require it's guests to wait which I didn't mind, BUT they managed to give a table away to 2 people who didnt even book!! Patience is a virtue, but I had to make sure that was not going to happen again... so beware if you've made a reservation. The food however, really speaks for itself and will have your taste buds dancing! The Wagyu beef was tasty, juicy and tender, just as expected and the portion was just enough for 2. The Ox tongue has different grades and we chose to try the Supreme version and wasn't dissapointed, again very tender, the texture might be a bit strange to those who hav'nt had it before, but it's worth a try. We also had the Fois gras with Stone Pot Rice, not a great combination as the rice needs to be mixed and will eventually lose the flavor of the Fois Gras, my advise is to eat the Fois Gras Separately or not order it at all The Tiger Prawn and Scallops were fresh and very juicy indeed so no problems there! The service is another story, maybe I have high standards, but still, there's no excuses for mising items off my order, so don't expect too much. It's worth a try and the price is very reasonable for the quality of food your getting! I'd go again.:)…Read More
