Hygiene
Cafe Marco

Hello once again, have not written a review for a long while and afraid that this isn't a positive review This review is not about food quality or service, it's about hygiene. As we started our (BoC credit card offer : buy 1 get 1 free) dinner buffet a bit late with my wife, midway through our dining, it was observed that other diners at the other table finished their buffet early. As the diners at the other table left, the waiters/waitresses started cleaning the table and we saw they turned the individual table mats upside down for reuse without proper cleaning My wife and I have grave concern regarding this hygiene problem and may spread of germs/bacteria to the next diners This is unacceptable and hopefully this matter will be followed up asap and hygiene must be improved. Manager(s) has been reported by the use of 'comment card' after our dining experience…Read More

Café de Coral (MCP CENTRAL (Phase II))
2013-03-20
Hello and welcome to my review. It's lunchtime again and it's a fast food chain everywhere in Hong Kong so don't expect too much (Cafe de Coral). For a HK$30 pot rice, there's absolutely NOTHING to complain about otherwise better not to eat.Steamed Chicken with preserved squid: I usally asks for non-colouring (no soy sauce) for all steam rice and or dishes because that tends to impair the original taste of the dish. It was quick and easy lunch being served. The rice pot doesn't taste too salty nor too much m.s.g. Steamed properly, mild taste, rice is chewy as it should be, chicken & squid is slightly minced & marinated with light seasoning and a few brocoli on top of the rice for presentation. Again, what more can you ask for for HK$30?Give it a try…Read More

Came to Stanley with my girlfriend for a walk and decided to go for a random lunch. I remembered I've read some article on a news website relating to visiting Hong Kong (wine & dine). This resaturant was one of choice that the article mentioned so therefore decided to give it a try, (and this restaurant is also available in Wan Chai).A) Firstly, the receiptionist gave us a very warm welcome and quickly seated us a table with a basket of baguettes and glasses of water. The baguettes was warm & moist on the inside and crust was crunchy which my girlfriend and I like the most (especially with alot of butter) B) We ordered some kind of starter platter (can't remember the name) which consists of parma ham, gherkins, salami, goose liver paste, cherry tomatoes, a bit of rocket salad with vinegar and some sort of green coloured dressing -_-" My girlfriend and I doesn't have particular comments on this platter as it's a normal platter. The only thing that catches our eye is that shot of green dressing, which both of us couldn't figure it out after tasting it and couldn't be bothered to ask either;)C) For the mains, we both ordered something from the daily menu which is written on the blackboard and I think they change it daily (not sure), a grilled spring chicken with daily veg' and a grilled salmon with stuffed tomato & boiled spuds. The salmon was absolutely brilliant. It isn't dry nor overcooked, still moist on the inside. We both like having salmon alot when dining outside so again we tend to order salmon almost where ever we go It was seasoned well that you could actually taste the freshness inside the salmon. Also there's not too much blackpepper being seasoned on top as I'm slightly allergic to blackpepper. The stuffed tomato was tasty in terms of big fat juicy tomato that goes with stuffed in cous-cous (as far as I remembered). Overall, very good dish.D) The spring chicken was......spring chicken. Its not overcooked or dry (but remember, many restaurants overcook this dish alot). A bit of boil veg' and roasted wedges on the side to go with the chicken together with a splash of gravy. The chicken was seasoned with rosemary herbs and some olives with the gravy. Chicken was tender and cooked properly and perfectly, boil veg wasn't too soft and still able to taste the freshness and crunchiness from them..good stuff.E) We were quite full despite having a basket of baguettes, starter platter and two mains for lunch but decided to go for a dessert to share too as our stomach was crying for it A pistachio cake with raspberry & vanilla sauce and a scoop of cream on top. WoW O_O" the cake was very delicious, and I do mean delicious in terms of taste, it's not sweet at all and it just blends in the mouth very easily together with the raspberry & vanilla sauce. Speechless, just try it out for yourself readers.F) Finally from all that eating, munching and crunching, our mouth decided to tell us that it needs a bit of a splash of non-berverage, so we ordered a cranberry juice = nice from the fridge, cool on a sunny day Conclusions, I would like to try this restaurants for dinner soon. I would recommend to friends / relatives and readers out there to give it a try. I'm sure it won't disappoint you all;)Comments? / leave a message …Read More

Christmas Eve Dinner 2012
Bouchon Bistro Francais
2013-03-13
Came here for X'mas Eve dinner and forgotten it was only on set menus, so my girlfriend and I ordered same main course and dessert. For the starters we chosed the Oysters & Foie Gras, Main course Grilled Salmon Steak and dessert was X'Mas Log Cake1) Oysters & Foie Gras: Oysters were juicy and very fresh. Tasted just like it came from the catch with a squeeze of lemon juice to enhance to seafood flavour. Tasty tasty and I won't complain about the size of the oysters, because as for 2 people, we won't be able to finish everything on the plate during the whole dinner. As for the Foie Gras (photo not included), it was approximately 70% done and slightly raw which makes the Foie Gras more juicy I don't recall much experience of having Foie Gras so couldn't provide detailed comment.2) Grilled Salmon steak x 2 (photo probably too dark to show): The grilled salmon was perfectly done. Crispy skin with a sprinkle of roasted shredded almonds on top, juicy and tender. The fish isn't overcooked which gives this pleasant taste as it melts once you eat it. Asparagas was on the side in order to accompany the fish which was lightly done and tossed with a bit of butter and seasoning. Grilled Salmon is HIGHLY Recommended 3) X'mas log cake x 2: Finally when it came to the dessert, my girlfriend and I were 90% full and our stomach just couldn't resist the tempation to try it out. The log cake is is a log cake. Very filling and it's no other cake, light in weight. I'm actually surprised that the cake doesn't taste too sweet as it opened up our appetite a bit more even tho we both were quite full. There's a small layer of cream, rolled in from the cake which makes the cake isn't too dry and accompany with some X'mas dressing on top that makes the presentation more colourfulNot a bad place for a romantic dining, and wouldn't mind at all to recommened and or try this place again in near future and not in special occasion in terms of X'mas and New Years Eve (set menu only)…Read More

wow..randomly decided to give this fast food chain a visit.Ordered Honey Grilled Chicken wings, Cream of Mushroom soup with puff pastry, Chicken & Sweetcorn spaghetti and a Spinach Groupa spaghetti.1) Seriously, visited this restaurant just because the Honey Grilled Chicken wings were very tasty in accordance to my and my girlfriends taste-buds Absolutely delighted.2) Cream of mushroom soup was pretty normal and tasted a little bit out of Campbell's soup and the puff pastry was very buttery and crispy to go with the soup.3) Chicken and sweetcorn spaghetti: the dish was a bit dry in terms of the sauce wasn't enough and tasted quite salty4) Spinach Groupa spaghetti: this dish was much better than the chicken & sweetcorn as the sauce was plentiful and not dry at all BUT yet again, it was quite salty. To be honest, it's a fast food restaurant so couldn't proivde much comments, which I think it's average for a quickie.Honey Grilled Chicken wings for the win…Read More

Spasso Italian Bar & Restaurant

hm..nice place with nice atmosphere. Especially Valentine's Day where there was a photographer who captures your photos and send you by email which I rejected. Just didn't want photos to be leaked / posted out.Straight to the point.Ordered Tuna Loin, Wagyu Beef and a Pizza.1) Tuna tasted fresh and juicy. Its outer layer is slightly seared which gives that bit of texture that it's cooked. Lemon juice were squeezed to go with the loin which makes it tastier and fresher.. Not bad not bad2) Wagyu Beef - was a slow cooked beef and it actually didn't taste like beef at all. The beef actaully tasted very strange BUT maybe it wasn't my cup of tea. Not much comment on this dish.3) Vegetarian Pizza: Pizza was very filling which my girlfriend and I coundn't finish them all. It was huge and texture was brilliant The cheese has a strong taste of milk in it.Not much comment regarding this restaurant. Overall, OK…Read More

Amaroni's New York Italian Restaurant & Café (又一城)

Booked a table 3 weeks in advance prior to X'mas day by paying reservation fee. Upon arrival on the day, the receptionist actually made a mistake on my booking so waited not too long which finally got a nice cosy corner table for my girlfriend and myself. Visited this restaurant before with my family and decided to come here again as the atmosphere and environment is quite comfortable and romantic..especially for dating Ordered A-La-Carte menu with Cream of Mushroom soup - big bowl Ceasar Salad, Beel Lasagne, and a Grilled Spring Chicken.1) The soup was actually very rich, creamy and thick which we both couldn't stop having it to go with the nice Italian bread basket. Alot of mashed mushroom bits 'n' pieces were in the soup with some herbs were used in order to enhance the taste and smell of the appetizer (can't really figure out which herbs tho =/)2) The ceasar salad was not bad with bits of croutons and parmesean cheese and ceasar dressing. Size of the portion was reasonably enough for 2 to share, so there are some more rooms remained for our hungry eating stomach The salad was nice and light to have before the mains arrived.3) When the beef lasagne arrived we were speechless --> and didn't realised that the portion was quite large. The lasagne sheets were just a touch overcooked BUT the meat and sauce texture was quite nice. Nice in terms of tastes was rich in tomato with herbs and the whole dish was seasoned well enough.4) Finally I didn't read the menu properly cause I was just hungry to order and spring chicken arrived as a whole, cut in quaters and it was so large that we both ate only a 1/4 of the dish. Took the rest home as we're not food wasters. The sping chicken was full of rosemary herbs which was very delicious and it was cooked to almost a perfect satisfaction where the texture of the chicken was so tender and juicy and not dry at all. I would definitely recommend to friends & family.Overall, I would come back again in futureTotal bill was at around..........better not say as my girlfriend could read my comments, haha just kidding…Read More
