The first time we ate at mak Mak pad Thai was the first we order and it was good. Came back this time and it was still good. Order two more dishes which is the rice paper roll and some daily special ribs. Both dishes quite disappointing. Was being the guinea pig when a friend suggested we try a new restaurant. A simple renovated restaurant with a open kitchen. We ordered 2 pastas and an 8” pizza between 3 girls for lunch. Pizza came first but it was nothing surprising. The pastas came next, it was homemade and cooked to al dente. I was quite impressed with the pastas. The signature truffle dumpling are the best dumplings I have ever had. Their pan fried cheese dumpling is also a must try dish. Was craving for duck noodles but there isn’t much places that makes it in Hong Kong. Searched for a few different restaurants on openrice and we decided to go to kowloon city. Came here around 3pm so there wasn’t much people. Was surprise by the many choices of the duck noodles they have. We ordered the popular two. It wasn’t a big bowl but it tasted like Thailand. I think they use the same soup base with different combinations of toppings. It satisfied our cravings of Thailand. You could always tell whether a restaurant has put in efforts by the bread they bring out first. The bread was soft and fluffy and the choice of their olive oil and vinegar is really good. We had the uni risotto, uni pasta, mushroom fettuccine, scallop with kale sauce pasta, and seafood pasta. All the pastas was surprisingly good. Next came the beef carpaccio and it wasn’t paper thin and I really liked it. I ordered pork loin as main dish but it was over cooked. Sat down at this cafe becos I was Christmas shopping at causeway bay plaza. Ordered a meatball pasta and a salted caramel pancake to share with a friend. My friends recommended the pancake and she said it was really good. First cake pasta and it tasted really good. Meatballs were tender and not dry and the tomato base was also done to the right flavor. The waitress urged us to order the pancake while were eating the pasta saying it might take sometime. But I think she just don’t want us to sit for too long. I was surprise when the pancake came. It was so fluffy! It came with 3 dipping sauce, one is butter, maple syrup and salted caramel. Came here from reading about it on a blog. There was a little line up but we’ve got our table prettysoon. Cafe with simple decoration of vintage looking. Say down and ordered two food. One was the soufflé pancake for sure and the other was ham and cheese waffle sandwich which was good. It we wanted to try the chicken waffle instead. Our pancakes came later and they warn it’s a 20 minute wait. But it is so worth the wait. It’s so fluffy, not too sugary, everything is balanced out well, it’s the best I had at hk so far. Went there for few drinks with friends and we decide to order food too. We had the salty egg fish skin and it was sooo good, ma po chili fries had its surprise, dumplings and xiao long bao was good too, duck salad was ok, the lobster noodle need some working on (soup is too bland), and finally the Peking duck!.....skin is crispy and the meats are not dry Plus it’s kinda cheaper than other place...defiantly worth a try.
