Visited almost a year ago and left a Google review which the owner finally decided to reply ELEVEN MONTHS LATER while accusing me of not having paid my bill. Super odd timing and baseless claim because of course I paid and I have a Payme record of the transaction.Anyway I tried to order their "signatures" (ferrero rocher, cream cheese) on their menu but the staff said they couldn't work out the flavours and will cancel them off the menu?? Made a booking via openrice for lunch at 11:30am. Since we were running late I tried to call the restaurant to tell them we would be late but no one picked up. When we got there, the restaurant said they gave our table away because we were late and we had cancelled? Then I checked my email and noticed the openrice had sent me an email at 11am saying that the restaurant cancelled my booking as per "diner's requests" but I never cancelled. Anyway the staff was super rude and told me I have to return the table within 30 minutes which is impossible. He kept arguing and blaming us for being late when with hindsight they had already cancelled our booking on their own regardless of whether we were on time or not. 第一次惱到要寫埋中文超級伏食物質素麻麻地。意大利餐廳煮意大利粉都煮到呲住曬都算, 佢d staff 倒瀉成杯紅酒落我到,佢仲照收我成枝紅酒錢。個經理話請我地食甜品, 但係根本唔係佢正常可以叫個d, 係佢日頭賣剩個d野。cheap 到一個點。個經理仲俾左張卡片我, 話會賠返洗衫錢 (紅酒都洗得走??)。我email 左佢成個禮拜都冇回覆, 擺明就係唔覆逃避責任。不知所謂嘅服務態度。永久blacklistMEDIOCRE FOOD, ABYSMAL SERVICEA staff knocked over my glass and spilled red wine all over me during dinner. Then the restaurant's "managing director" Paese showed up and said he will cover the laundry charges (even though red wine stain is notoriously difficult to remove). He also offered to give us "free desserts" which we later noticed are bascially LEFTOVER pastries from day time and aren't the usual dessert options. He didn't waive the bill and even made us pay for the bottle of wine in full. I emailed him afterwards explaining how dry cleaners couldn't remove the stain. HE NEVER REPLIED. Absolutely ridiculous.Food wasn't even that good. Booked online via their website for 11am for a weekend but the restaurant later emailed me and changed it to 10:30am saying we could come at 11 but their breakfast finishes at 11:30 if we don't mind.On the day of our visit we called the restaurant repeatedly around 10:30am just to make sure they wouldn't give our table away but no one picked up (we later realised this was not necessary because it certainly didn't generate enough buzz to fill the tables as many new restaurants in the city do now). Finally someone called back and the staff said their breakfast would be over at 10:45am instead of 11 and we said we didn't mind we will eat whatever menu was available when we arrived. Another staff called again within minutes to say breakfast ends at 11:30am but we cannot be late? Anyway we assured them we would arrive at 11am. So much confusion and so many phone calls over a breakfast. Totally unnecessary.Food wise - they already sold out the steak option (they didn't know until after we ordered too) so we settled for the fried chicken burger and the hummus. Both were average and not as good as Baked. The real disappointment was the cinnamon tea - could not taste any cinnamon, just tasted like $45 worth of hot water with floating nuts. Visited for lunch just over a year ago and was very impressed. Unfortunately it didn't take long for the standards to fall off the cliff.Went back for lunch over the holidays and they charged us over $1000 per person for their special "festive menu" (normally half that). However, the food was totally unworthy of that price tag. The sea urchin was not fresh and the bouillabaisse dish did not work. Very uninspiring menu with none of the flair from my last visit. They also ran out of the lotus chicken. Quite unacceptable considering that was one of the only 3 main course options and you actually have to supplement $780 for that too. The waiter did not even know they ran out when we ordered and had to come back later to tell us that. If that's a popular or limited option then they should have asked guests to reserve it beforehand. Aside from this service also deteriorated with waiters shouting at each other across the restaurant.We also noticed one of the chefs only had his apron straps on without the actual apron. Booked online for 11am breakfast - a staff called Melanie changed it to 10:30 on her own and said in her email that if we come at 11am we only have 45 mins for breakfast if we don't mind. Well we don't. At 10:30am we decided to call the restaurant just to make sure it's OK if we arrive at 11 and not give our table away. No one picked up after at least half a dozen calls. Finally someone called back to say breakfast finishes at 10:45am and if we mind eating lunch - the staff sounded very confused and we just said doesn't matter we will arrive at 11 and eat whatever is available. Another staff called later to say breakfast ends at 11:30am and that we cannot arrive at 12 (huh??). The same staff called again after numerous clarifications and still they didn't seem to understand we will arrive at 11 as we originally planned.We arrived 5 mins past 11 and the restaurant was half full. Not sure what's the panic. They've already sold out the steak and eggs though so clearly they need to work on their prepping enough ingredients. The cinnamon tea was super weak - tasted like hot water with some nuts floating on the top. The fried chicken burger and hummus were not bad but not good enough to put up with all their service issues.No staff ever apologised even though I explicitly mentioned how we were annoyed with the 3 separate calls over a breakfast booking. Nice decor. Food was not bad - we ordered the deluxe menu. The Japanese wagyu was decent and the lobster was good too. We had expected some sort of beni hana like tricks on the teppanyaki (since they seemed to be going for that Americanized teppanyaki vibe) but none of that happened. Overall it was still ok. The main killer came when we finished our food and they asked us to move to the whiskey room for dessert. When the waitress told us our options, we each chose a dessert thinking it's included. A while later she came back to "remind us" that the dessert is not complimentary and have to pay extra. Since we already ordered, it seemed cheap to cancel the order and well it's dessert, how expensive could it be right (no menu so no price was given and she did not say). The bill came and they charged us $168 HK dollars per slice of cake. So between the four of us that's $740 (including service charge) worth of dessert. And it's a normal piece of cake - not covered in truffles or gold leaves or anything. At $740 we could have bought a whole cake with leftovers. While the teppanyaki deluxe menu (the priciest option) was $1188 per person, charging this price for a slice of cake is disproportional and the way they did it was quite sneaky in my opinion. Though the reviews regarding the food are quite mixed I quite enjoyed most of the dishes especially the lobster.Pretty unique to have so many seafood options for Indian cuisine in HK. The lobster tikka was well executed and portion was decent. The lamb shank and kulcha were also not bad. Masala chai was very good but the mango lassi is very thick so I would probably order it as a dessert.What's more famous about Chaat however is its ridiculously long waiting list of up to 3 months. I managed to make a booking for 2 and emailed a few weeks ago asking if I could add 2 adults and 1 child on high chair to my table. They replied that it was not possible since they were fully booked but they would let me know if they have any cancellations.We went on a Saturday night and throughout our dinner from 6-8pm there were at least 3 empty tables next to us (and probably more around the corner). There were also at least 2 tables that could have seated 4 people but only 2 people were there (so at least they could have given us that table). They do take your credit card details down to hold the reservation so I highly doubt so many people decided to no-show last minute.Not sure if this is a policy to generate hype. I've emailed them about it afterwards and they replied asking for my contact details and a time to call. I replied but no one called until 4 days after the time I suggested, blaming that the "email got lost".They explained that the empty tables were a combo of people who were late and no-shows, though they could not explain why we weren't offered the table that seats 4 which only had two guests there. I'm a big fan of the wagyu vanne next door so I was not too hesitant to try this one out. After all, they're sister restaurants, can't be that bad right? Well, it was pretty far off.The wagyu sando is understandably gonna be less impressive than the wagyu vanne one since it's cheaper but even then it was all batter with not much actual wagyu. The black cod rice was ok. My friends liked the wagyu burger but apparently the wagyu don was not palatable. We actually went for eggettes nearby after dinner.Overall, would not recommend this place. Went at lunch time during the weekend and the place was pretty much empty - first sign of trouble. Specifically asked for no shellfish and the chef served me shellfish - even being surprised that something called "粒貝" is regarded as a shellfish. The same chef (there was only one) also couldn't seem to cut sashimi properly and two slices were still joined together at the end. I've seen better cuts in supermarket sashimi. Portions were small and I was served the most embarrassingly pathetic tiny piece of uni I've ever seen in an omakase. Finally the waitress served what she called "蕨餅" aka warabimochi for dessert - it was not, it was firm and not chewy at all (likely a completely different kind of wagashi).The original price of this lunch omakase was $458 and got discounted to $308.
