The right formula at Futago
Yakiniku Futago HK
2014-07-21
Some restaurants have their formulas right that will keep driving you back from time to time, and I think Futago is one of them.Although korean or japanese grill is not my everyday cuisine, but certainly visiting them one for 2-3 months is worth paying for the dry clean bill after a good meal.My first visit was on a Saturday afternoon which I arrived a few minutes before their lunch opening time at noon so there was no waiting in line. The menu is simple enough with a few lunch sets which one will be able to make his orders quickly.Between the two of us, we picked the Yakiku set and the Dice Karuki set.For an extra $5 per person, you can choose an iced soda or oolong tea. Both the beef and pork are well marinated and flavourable.  If you are extra hungry, you can also order a large bowl of rice at no additional charge instead of the standard portion. The portion looks small from the beginning but it does fill you up for lunch time. The barbeque grill is powerful enough that the juice from the meats is nicely sealed and tender.P.S. Ordered a large draft beer to go with the meal at $48/glass.  It is relatively pricey when comparing to my $95 lunch set but the icey cold beer does complement very well.H.…Read More

Interesting place for coffee lovers in Kwai Chung
Soulmate Coffee
2014-07-19
I always wanted to try out this place for many months but have not had the chance until recently. It was not almost 1:45pm that I arrived for a late lunch.  The place is tucked away in the G/F parking lot of an industrial building but not difficult to find. The place is known for its coffee which they have a good selection including hand drip ones for various origins and types.  Since it is my first time here and it was a late lunch.  I decided to go for a salami, cheese and tomato sandwich and flat white first (got to start from the basic one).My flat white arrived first and it had a descent layer of milk foam.  The coffee itself is slightly on the weak side. The choice of ceramic cups is interesting and perhaps cater to a certain group of customers. Luckily the cup I was using is not too bad, as I saw some other people were using "Line" characters cups which I think would spoil the whole setup. The sandwich was a pleasant surprise.  The ciabatta was toasted and the salami complemented with the other ingredients.  The set is $70 which is a bit expensive in the district.  Next time I shall try the hand drip coffee.H.…Read More

Sunday lunch at Tatsu
Tatsu
2008-04-11
Overall its set lunch is good value for money especially for its sushi set at around $150. But one of the waitresses is really poor in service. The restaurant opens until 2:30pm. And around 2pm, when we were the last table remaining, she handed us the bill and by 2:10pm, and we were "informed" that the restaurant is closing. How rude! We've got the name of owner already and will be writing to him.…Read More

Sunday Brunch
798 Unit & Co
2008-04-11
We went for the Sunday Brunch last weekend. For $168 + 10% per person, there is a buffet of salad, cereal and desserts and you can select one of the dozen choices of main courses from big breakfast, egg benedict, pasta, pizza, risotto etc. The salads are pretty good, of course don't expect the selection you get from a 5-star hotel, but the greens are fresh and you also get anchovies with your sald (not bad). Homemade museli is worth trying. For main courses, for 3 of us, we picked a penne with meat sauce, pizza magherita, and a risotto with asparagus. Although the pizza that came was a pepperoni pizza instead, it was okay, thin crust type. The portions are quite large indeed so we didn't have room for dessert. For $168 per person with coffee/tea, the price is quite steep for the selection. But wait, you can unlimited soft drinks, juices, soda etc, and we didn't find out until we are having our main courses. And... coffee and tea are unlimited servings too. But their coffee is excellent as well. However don't expect excellent service from the restaurant, most of the waiters and waitresses are green and don't get too upset for them. Enjoy the food and remember that it should be a relaxing Sunday afternoon.…Read More
