Read More

Does It Worth 20 Smilies?!
Manchester United Restaurant Bar
2010-08-02
Went there for father's birthday. Totally five of us, just waited a short while before being seated.Realized the prices of the food there weren't cheap at all comparing to others similar kinds of restaurants. We've ordered 2 soups, 1 Caesar salad, 1 pizza and 2 pastas. Then the server asked what we would like to drink, since none of us really drink, and we didn't want soda. Then I've asked for water. "distill water?" Server asked, "Yes, still water please!" I replied. "Distill or sparkling water!?" "Still water, I don't want sparkling." I said. So I guess they didn't want what "still water" means... Anyway... They've opened a bottle of "Distill Water" and poured for us, service wasn't bad.Caesar salad arrived, my mother was saying it's salty. I didn't believe it until I've tasted it, it was the "saltiest" Caesar salad I've had ever in my life, I had different ones in a lot of places locally and internationally... We've told the serve and he told a bit to the kitchen to taste it. He came back out and said, "It just taste about right!" Well, OK then, just change into "Salty Caesar Salad" in the menu please...The pizza was ok and one pasta was ok as well, sorry guys, I've forgot the names. But then the last pasta was super salty also... We only had a bit, couldn't finish at all... To be honest, I had doubts for these kinds of restaurant. Cos' the food are usually so so, and over priced. Well, it proves that again... For this price and quality of food, there're better choices out there.Unless you're a super MU fan, otherwise, skip it. …Read More

Trying To Be Western, But Still Too Local
Green Waffle Diner (嘉咸街)
2010-08-02
Went there with a friend who read about it on HK Magazine. Since he wanted to try it, so I was like, ok, let's give it a try. When we arrived there were around 70% of the table filled with local crowds. We were seated in a table right next to a couple. (They refused to let us to sit at the bigger table). I got a bit annoyed by the couple's (especially the girl was being a bit too pretentious, saying "napkins" to the servers and they had no idea what it means and had to double check with her again and she finally said it in Cantonese...) conversation, table were too close, I didn't want to listen to others' loud conversations... Anyway, food was not bad but not great as well. My friend waited for way too long for his food and we've seen others (who came later) had the same dish before we had ours... When the dish finally arrived, the lady (maybe manager?) didn't even bother to apologize... Guess I couldn't find any reason to eat there again, since there are too many similar places in Central area.PS: Are they serving Diary Farm ice cream with the waffles? Those imitation strawberry ice cream? Hope not!…Read More

Terrible Dessert
Shakey's Pizza Restaurant
2010-07-25
Today is my friend's birthday. We was looking for somewhere to celebrite after he got off work in Tai Po. Everywhere was relatively packed, except Shakey's Pizza. So we decided to have dinner there (I went to TST one which was good). We ordered a pizza, salad and pasta, which were pretty good. But then I ordered the Shakey's Special Sundae. It looked really good on the picture. 6 cones of ice cream, jelly and so on. Then the sundae came, it was big but it was nothing like the picture. The whole thing was covered by lots of cream (I mean lots!) The jelly cubes were only those common ordinary ones, not tasting any good and texture was hard and too chewy. They put small pieces of peanut on it, and it was dreadful... The peanuts just tasted like some terrible old oil, or it actually went bad already or I just don't know. The ice cream were only those (tri-color) ones from Dairy Farm. And it costed us almost $100 just for this crap.We talked to the server and she was helpful, she told the manager and he came to us and we explained what was happening. When I told him for a dessert which costs almost $100, they shouldn't use ice cream from Dairy Farm (which doesn't cost much and doesn't taste good). And he replied, "We are not going to provide you the name of the brand that we are using." "Well, you don't have to answer. I'm just telling you. Cos' I can tell what it is." But finally he offered to void it from our bill, I guess it was fair. PS: How funny I was just telling my friend I had a dessert at the Panash Cafe the night before. Which was the huge ice cream with chocolate cake and cream. Which costed the same but it was much nicer and the chocolate cake was fresh, ice cream was good too. So, tonight experience was a big disappointment. And I felt sorry, since it was for my friend's birthday... …Read More
