Recently, I discovered that Cafe Cabin offers a range of "cauliflower rice" options for those who wish to replace starch content in their meals with something else.By Shau Kei Wan standards, the price for one of their cauliflower rice is not inexpensive. At a time when most people host small Chinese New Year gatherings at their homes due to potential Omicron scare, good and reliable takeaway sources become increasingly important. I discovered last year (2021) that the Steam Hut sells great and reasonably-priced Chinese new year turnip cakes, water chestnut cakes and custard cakes and it has been my go-to source for 2 years in a row. My family loves these cakes during family gatherings. Prawn Noodle Shop is one of my favourite restaurants in Quarry Bay - love their spicy prawn soup base. Imagine the disappointment when their shop by the street closed and my joy at discovering they are back with a bigger and newer shop nearby the original shop (a 3 seconds walk down the alley next to the original shop). Now I can continue my Sunday routine of sweating out in the gym for 2 hours followed by lunch at Prawn Noodle Shop - Yay! Must try their Prawn Noodles with Spicy Prawn Soup Base. I personally like to add squidballs and calamansi soda and opt for mixed noodles. You can get all this under HKD100 😋😋😋. Heaven!This shop has now introduced QR Code ordering. Having been to this restaurant twice already, we were pleased to find that 16 Shell was offering a new Coriandar Testing Menu.The Coriandar Pasta with Chicken Thigh (HK$160) was a flavorful dish. Despite a generous portion, we still couldn't have enough of that coriandar pasta. We gulped it all up before we even finished the chicken thigh!Would also recommend the Seafood Platter ($190) and the Garlic Prawn ($140), which were also very tasty!16 Shell is a no MSG restaurant and reasonably priced. Pleasantly surprised to discover this quaint little shop that offers high quality/restaurant-worthy Western takeaways (like seafood and homemade pasta) and snacks (I ended up ordering tapas-style) at very reasonable prices (all set dinners are under HKD100, ranging from HKD48 to HKD90 and comes with a free drink and soup if you add HKD8, and snacks range from HKD38 to HKD54) in between Shau Kei Wan and Sai Wan Ho, two districts where residents usually stick to traditional Cha Chan Tengs, BBQ Meat Shops or Chiu Chow-Style Braised Meat Shops. So tonight, we tried:(1) Homemade Spaghetti with Prawns and Beef in Port Wine GravyExcellent homemade pasta (with beef mixed into it) and two prawns served at the side. Most restaurants/takeaway shops would stick to either beef or prawn and it is really good value to be able to enjoy both along with homemade pasta at this price (HKD85)!(2) French-Style Sauteed Clams in Butter, Garlic and White Wine SauceThis is on the snacks menu (HKD48). A classic combination and hardly ever disappoints!(3) Pan-fried Ox TongueThis is also on the snacks menu (HKD54). Generously-sliced ox tongue pan-fried in garlic - simple and delicious. A family favourite on the menu.(4) Sauteed Mixed Greens in XO SauceThis is on the snacks menu (HKD44). Not a particularly interesting option, but it offers a healthy portion and variety of greens!There were seats in the shop where you can sit while you wait. Jacomax's Gorgonzola and Apple Pizza is a must try. Grilled Chicken Wings are also delicious. One of my personal favourites is the Creamy Crab Rigatoni - looks plain but tastes great! First round drinks (beer, juice or soda) is free. Jacomax is a super popular place for authentic Italian pizza, even during holidays and weekends when there are fewer people spilling over from Central! Atmosphere is casual. At a time when social distancing is recommended to curb the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus, habits change.  I find myself exploring and hunting for quality takeaway shops.  "Around Wellington" stands out with its quality ingredients, fusion food menu and freshly-made food.  I would not hesitate to recommend its freshly-made A5 hida wagyu burger! It is value for money! The wagyu patty itself is worth half the price they charge already.   The burger set also comes with a soda and freshly-made french fries and ketchup.  The wait was around 10 minutes.  The shop does offer two small tables should you suffer a change of heart and decide to enjoy your food at the shop and the energetic service of the young staff there!…查看更多

Hidden in an alley behind The Center, you will find Trois Cafe (along with a few other shops), which has earned thumbs up from fellow Central Foodies. This cafe is somewhat hard to find, so not many people know about it. On this particular day, I tried their Crispy Chicken Ciabatta and Mocha (together, HKD100). I simply fell in love with the crispy chicken wrapped in toasted and buttered Ciabatta . The mocha was excellent as usual. Presentation and service were impeccable. Came here shortly after 3pm but the line in front of the cashier was so long and the place was so packed that I thought perhaps this place is popular because it was good. Boy, was I wrong!The line in front of the cashier was long solely because it took a long time to place orders. I believe the reason is they didn't have enough space to place trays to hold beverages after people placed their orders, so the guy at the cashier had to slow down the process of taking orders. When it was my turn to place an order, I was literally standing in front of the cashier for 5+ minutes before he would place my order because there was a mix-up of beverages for the two customers before me. The problem could have been EASILY resolved by a quick renovation of the counter area to provide more spaces to put trays.Afterwards, there was a loooong wait for tables because the staff were unable to clear empty tables of used trays, bowls, utensils and cups fast enough. The problem could have been easily resolved by providing staff with carts to carry used trays, etc., so they won't have to constantly walk back and forth between tables and the kitchen at the back to dispose things by hand.It took the staff more than 30 minutes to deliver my Laksa noodles to me and only after I had reminded one of the staff that I was still waiting. I was famished by the time they finally delivered after 3:45pm.As for the Laksa noodles, it was fine by fast food standards - served warm and looked like the picture on the menu. Have been looking for places to study that offers good food, snacks and beverages to keep my spirit up.  Today, I decided to give Rondavy's Artisan Kitchen a try.  Arriving at around 6pm, I was greeted by very friendly staff and was pleased with the table arrangements and lighting of the cafe (very crucial if I was going to spend a few hours there to study and dine ).  One of the staff took the trouble to explain the menu and give recommendations.  I finally settled with eggs benedict (with fries and veggie sides) and hot chamomile and citrus tea.  For the whole of the four hours I was there, my tea was refilled very frequently and graciously and was even offered complimentary dessert!  If you are looking for an alternative to coffee chains for a few relaxing hours (or to study like me) and do not mind paying a slight premium in support of smaller business and for the benefit of less crowd and more personal service, I would recommend Rondavy's!  Having read some of the other reviews, I agree that it could be slightly pricey but only if you are dining in a rush and will not have the time to enjoy the service and the environment.…查看更多

Came across this restaurant while looking for a place for breakfast on a Sat. The gloomy-looking waitress ignored me but a more cheerful waiter came and took my order soon after. Not long after I sat down, the Korean tourist couple next to me started to complain about the long wait for their breakfast. Their breakfast finally arrived. They ate. They sat and chatted. They paid and left and I was still waiting patiently for my simple Academics breakfast (it was really just simple ham, eggs, beans, veggies and toast). I noticed the people who came in later than me didn't have any food on their table yet, so I kept waiting for more than 45 minutes...until I really had to leave because it was time for my next appointment. I had to ask and I watched the waiter and the waitress follow up with the kitchen team with my order. Turned out the kitchen team skipped my order entirely!! Hearing every word in their conversation, I made the decision to cancel the order because I can't just wait any longer for them to begin cooking. Without any apologies, the waitress gave me a bill of $55 for a bottled orange juice. Not cheap for bottled orange juice. Such great value and service!
