CHIYO TSURU
2020-10-18
I came across this restaurant while searching for a quiet place to celebrate my birthday with my husband and it didn't disappoint! Dishes from the omakase (30% off through online reservation on OpenRice.com):In addition to the omakase (and encore orders of my favorite sanma sushi and my husband's favorite grilled Hirame sushi), we also ordered the grilled hamachi collar and aji sashimi:(Not photographed: We also ordered a bottle of sake.)We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and had a lovely evening.…Read More

Quality Japanese food!
Daikiya Japanese Restaurant
2010-09-11
Been looking for restaurants to have lunch on work days and saw that this restaurant has been quite popular lately. Having had lunch there with my fellow law mates, it has quickly become one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Central!Set lunches on weekdays cost $138 or more but I have to say the quality of the food is awesome! Each set comes with:- Salad: very well prepared; one of the best side salads I have had!- Miso soup: decent flavors; not your average watery soup that often comes with set lunches- Sashimi: very fresh; reasonable quantity- Main dish: huge portion of assorted sashimi with rice (friend's order) with huge chunks of sashimi; freshly grilled salmon, marinated just right (my order)- Coffee / mochiA very satisfying lunch, indeed. Highy recommended! Can't wait to try out the food served for its buffet!…Read More

Jika Udon
2010-07-09
Has always wanted to come to this restaurant given its location but never got the chance to. Well, since I was to have dinner on my own all of a sudden, this restaurant was the obvious choice.明太子掛烏冬 - surprisingly large portion of quality udon with more than enough 明太子雞軟骨餃子 - freshly fried; quite tastyA satisfying meal overall! Since I was alone, I couldn't have a greater variety of food. Curious about other dishes, though; will definitely be back.…Read More

Dinner with my grandparents was a pleasant experience, even though the service was sub par as my grandparents warned me.奇味小炒 - one of its signature dish; so-so南乳齋煲 - surprisingly tasty with a great variety of vegetables椒鹽排骨 - a little too bony for me but it was well marinated味菜豬肚粉腸 - not bad but nothing special腿容琵琶豆腐 - favorite dish of the night; highly recommended!I heard that the entire building where the restaurant is located will be torn down soon. I wonder if this restaurant is going to move to a new location?…Read More

Glad to have discovered another quality 茶餐廳
Capital Café (Heard Street)
2010-07-04
Was totally in the mood for some quality scrambled eggs this morning and this restaurant popped up in my mind. Both my boyfriend and I ordered the 常餐, whereby one can choose to have macaroni with grilled pork / beef / ham, together with toasts + ham and fried / scrambled eggs. The scrambled eggs - really smooth; highly recommended! The toast - thick and scrunchyThis restaurant is fast becoming my go-to place for a quite brunch.…Read More

On par udon
Jika Udon
2010-06-30
I have always been a huge udon fan. Seeing that this restaurant specializes in udon, there is no reason not to give it a try.Perhaps I have expected too much, but the udon was nothing out of the ordinary. Together with the fact that it took 20 minutes before my order was ready (it was around 18:00 and the restaurant was half empty), it was a somewhat dissatisfying meal.In any event, to give the restaurant some credit, the pork chop was carefully fried and the udon was cooked right. I may consider coming back if I were in the neighborhood.…Read More

Misleading reviews...
Big Wife Noodle
2010-06-30
Having seen the rave reviews of this restaurant, my family and I decided to give it a try when we were in the neighborhood. Honestly, I was really disappointed (bordering pissed off) after the meal. 大婆牛肉麵 - the beef was really poorly marinated, if it was actually marinated in the first place; the soup was tasteless - it certainly qualified as the worst bowl of beef noodles I have ever had!炸排骨 - the pork was dry, enough saidI will never ever come back again!!!…Read More

One of the few lower price range restaurants
Wild Ginger
2010-06-30
Among the various restaurants in Elements, this restaurant is surely one of the cheapest. Naturally, the less you pay, the lower quality the food is. I wouldn't say the food sucks in this restaurant, but the quality of the food really is just so-so. 免治雞肉石頭鍋讚岐手打烏冬 - there wasn't much chicken to speak of, honestly, but it's tasty overall特選五色魚生飯 - the sashimi wasn't all that fresh...Personally, I would rather pay more for better food than coming back to this restaurant. Nevertheless, given the price of the food, it certainly isn't too bad a choice.…Read More

Refreshing meal!
Xi Yan Sweets
2010-06-30
When a friend who came back from the States asked to have dinner with my boyfriend and I , I immediately thought of this restaurant. With its fresh take on various traditional Chinese dishes, my choice of restaurant turned out to be spot on.秘製凍豆腐 (cold tofu in pickled sauce) - I am a huge tofu fan and this dish is one of my favorite tofu dishes!招牌擔擔拉麵 (Dan Dan noodles) - this is actually a 撈麵 (definitely my favorite dish from this restaurant); a little twist on the traditional dish goes a long way!腐乳脆香雞 (fried chicken with fermented bean curd sauce) - well marinated, with crispy skin招牌炭燒豬頸肉 (grilled Thai pork) - nothing special, quite oily; probably the weakest dish of all...海皇素翅酸辣上海麵 (Shanghai noodles in hot and sour soup) - interesting take on the traditional dish; quite refreshing沖繩黑糖白玉子 (Okinawa black sugar Japanese dumplings) - simple dessert done well花酒釀荔枝雪糕 (lychee ice cream with osmanthus wine) - a really fragrant dish私房手搓黃金湯圓 (custard glutinous dumplings) - one of my favorite 湯圓 dishes!Yet another satisfying meal!…Read More

A bug in my salad...
Eat Right
2010-06-03
Had lunch at this restaurant upon the recommendation from a friend. In a nut shell, the food was ok, save for the bug in my salad...Both My friend and I ordered the set lunch:Mushroom soup - wasn't bad, nothing out of the ordinaryBurger - (friend's main dish) burger was fine, but the sauce for the fries was...funkyLasagna - the lasagna itself was quite juicy and the beef was well marinated, but there was a bug in the salad, which is totally unacceptableTo be honest, even though I was given a replacement dish, I had lost my appetite as soon as I saw the bug. Let's just say that I won't be coming back. Period.…Read More

Quality ramen
Noodle House Ippei-An
2010-02-10
I have always wanted to pay a visit to this restaurant ever since my boyfriend told me its ramen is pretty decent, and he turns out to be right! Our orders:長崎拉麵 - quality soup, loads of vegetables and seafood秘製拉麵 - quality soup, awesome pork!青椒麵豉青瓜 - authentic and really delicious miso with crunchy cucumber雞柳蔥串燒 and 雞絞肉串燒 - both above parWith decent service (most of the waiters and waitresses speak Japanese) and authentic food, Ippei-An has surely become one of my favorite ramen restaurants!…Read More

Authentic Japanese izakaya
Genki Ippai Japanese Farmhouse Style Restaurant
2010-02-07
This has got to be one of the most authentic Japanese restaurants I have been to in Hong Kong.As soon as the five of us set down, the waitress recommended the sake of the month. We were planning to get sake anyway and so we decided to take her recommendation. I am no expert when it comes to sake, but I thought it was not bad.We then ordered numerous 串燒 and a whole lot of other dishes:雞軟骨, 雞件+蔥, 牛脷, 帶子, 冬菇, 煙肉鵪鶉蛋 (and some others I have forgotten lol...) - all of these are really tasty明太子燒玉子 - without a doubt my favorite dish of the nightSukiyaki - all of the ingredients were fresh and of good quality芝士和牛漢堡 - a bit pricey ($120) but definitely worth trying; my other favorite of the night!炸雞件 - the chicken was really juicy and well marinatedI will definitely go back for more authentic Japanese food!…Read More

Yet another restaurant to satisfy my udon cravings
Dai Mon Yokocho
2010-02-07
Udon has always been my favorite noodle, and the udon at this restaurant is truly up to my high standard! (Even my boyfriend, who isn't a huge fan of udon, thought it's good!)Our orders:一口雞芝士撈手打烏冬 - the juiciness of the chicken took me by surprise and the amount of cheese for the bowl of udon was just right; highly recommended!秘製雞柳蕃茄湯手打烏冬 - decent soup with well marinated chicken雞軟骨串燒 and 糖心蛋 - not bad, but nothing specialIt was unfortunate that we didn't get to try the restaurant's signature dish, 豬骨濃湯烏冬, as it has been sold out. Nevertheless, the food was satisfying and I will definitely go back for more!…Read More

My favorite frozen yogurt store!
Yogurtime
2009-12-27
This is without a doubt my favorite frozen yogurt store! The daily special flavors always bring me back whenever I have a chance to stop by, while the original flavor is already enough for me to keep on going back. The staff was really friendly and helpful; you seldom see this kind of service in Hong Kong nowadays...The only downside is the limited seats available in the relatively tiny store.Highly recommended!…Read More
