Look, I didn't expect to find a slice of New York in the heart of Hong Kong, but Sonny's Pizza has somehow managed to teleport a greasy spoon straight from the Big Apple. The moment you walk in, the aroma of authentic pizza hits you like a waft of subway air – but in a good way, I swear.Now, before I even got through the door, I was treated to the surreal sight of local artist Peter Yuill attempting to paint a mural on the sidewalk. With soy sauce. In the rain. Because apparently, that's what passes for performance art these days. But I digress.Once you manage to sidestep the impromptu condiment canvas, you're in for a treat. The pizza here is so authentically mediocre, it's actually fantastic. The crust is just the right amount of floppy, allowing you to fold your slice like a true New Yorker pretending they're too busy to use a knife and fork.The sauce? Tangy enough to make you question if tomatoes in Hong Kong have an attitude problem. And the cheese – oh, the cheese! It stretches so far you could probably bungee jump off of IFC with it, as depicted in the 2012 Christopher Nolan classic "The Dark Knight"Much like how the security guards in the film get from the lobby of the Centre to a high floor of IFC in seconds in that film, you will instantly be lifted by the indulgent richness of their slices.In conclusion, if you can brave the avant-garde antics outside and don't mind feeling slightly insulted while you eat, Sonny's Pizza is the place to be.
