A lovely spot to relax and enjoy lunch!!!!
galley café & dining
2015-08-26
A business colleague (friend also) and I decided to visit Galley Cafe & Dining for lunch because we were told about the Executive Set Lunch discount by a fellow colleague. We arrived a little early for lunch, so it wasn't too busy at the time. But it seems we were too late as they had already switched to a new burger lunch menu in August, which we are happy the did (nothing against the executive set lunch : ) !! First, the restaurant is set inside the historic 1881 Heritage in TST, which is lovely and the restaurant itself is beautifully designed. We loved the mix between the white ceramic tiles and the light hardwood floors (main area) with deep brown mahogany wood walls. Add in the pictures of Old Hong Kong on the walls, and you have a great spot to relax and enjoy a lunch. We were first seated in the main area of the restaurant by the friendly host. The table was overlooking the busy street below and was nice, but we asked to be moved to the cozy front bar area near the terrace. The Server obliged and moved us to the front area, closer to the bar. A perfect lunch spot for two . Plus, there is a large sky light that provides beautiful natural light in the front area. We were immediately drawn to the Burger Lunch Menu presented by the Server and ordered the Thai Sirloin Steak Burger (to share). It was served on a Ciabatta Roll and topped with a green papaya salad and sweet chili sauce. It was well balanced between sweet and spicy and the Ciabatta roll was nice and soft, but also lightly grilled, which added some extra crunch. Sirloin was cooked medium and had good texture and taste. We added a side of Onion Rings and also ordered a few appetizers: Deep Fried Camembert Balls and Grilled scallops wrapped in pancetta. We found the Camembert Balls very crispy on the outside with the cheese pleasently melted on the inside. The Grilled Scallops were very tasty with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing added to the top and a wedge of lemon for adding to each scallop. Yummy!! Not that we needed it, but we also decided to order the hawaiian pizza. It is not a very large pizza, so was easy for us to share. If we had not ordered the other dishes, one of us could have easily finished the entire pizza by ourselves. The pizza is a thin crust and crisp. They are not shy on the cheese (thank you....love cheese). We liked that they do not over do it with the pineapple, sometimes a Hawaiian pizza can have too many pineapple pieces, but this had a good balance between the pineapple and ham. Maybe they could have added a little more tomato sauce. But overall a very nice pizza!! Another thing we really enjoyed was the music playing in the background.....nice and chill and relaxing and not too loud. Servers were friendly and attentive. Overall, a very enjoyable lunch. We will definitely come back.....perhaps for dinner and sit outside on the terrace.…Read More

A nice spot......
Tabibito
2015-08-17
Based on a recommendation, we made a reservation for 5 pax on Saturday to try Tabibito. When we arrived the table was not ready and we waited another 10-15 minutes for the table to be ready, which was not a problem. The entire restaurant only seats about 15-20 pax inside and abother 8-10 pax on the outside/inside high communal counter. And the space is small....they actually moved us to the outside/inside communal high counter seating area, which gave us a little more space, but not much more. The servers were extremely friendly and accomodating and doing their best to make it a good meal, but a bit disorganized in general in terms of seating, ordering, bringing drinks. But once the orders were placed and the food started to come out everything was nice and relaxing. The food itself was good/very good. Tabibito is an Okazu (Japanese Tapas) concept and the japanese word"Tabibito" translates to "The Traveler" in English. The food menu is divided into four sections: ‘raw’, ‘sea’, ‘land’, and ‘soil, each with at least six items to choose from to cater to everyone’s tastes. We started with a few Hitachino beers and ordered a bottle of Sake. For food we ordered the Mac N Cheese with Uni and truffles (good/ok), Spicy Wagyu Tartare Tenderloin with Spicy Miso, Egg yolk, White Sesame, Capers, Rice Crackers (very good),  Razor clams with eringi mushrooms, edamame and Hitachino white ale foam (very very good), Sweet corn tempura with mozzarella cheese (OK), Chicken karaage (good). Peppers (very good), Stuffed Baby Squid with Chorizo (taste was OK, but portion too smalll for the price) The portions are not very big so you’d definitely need to order at least a few per person. Best to come with a big group of friends for it to be more forgiving on your wallet and also for you to be able to sample more things on the menu.We felt the food was good to very good, service although a bit disorganized was extremely friendly and doing their best, price to value was high. We think if the portion size was a bit more then it would be worth the return. But defintely recommended if you are a large group (6 + ) so you can try many dishes while not breaking the bank.…Read More

Great Taste...for low price
TaKorea
2015-08-17
We were a group of 8 hungry friends and stumbled upon TaKorea on Wellington Street and fell in love. First, food is a Mexican-Korean fusion concept set in a casual/fast food dining atmosphere. The service is very friendly and accomodating. Restaurant is not very big and can not seat too many customers. But it is comfortable and a fun atmosphere. The server/manager was very friendly and was able to recommend many dishes and suggested amount of dishes to order for the 8 of us to share. We ended the kalbi beef tacos and burrito. Each uses a sticky-sweet Korean barbecue sauce, which most thought was great, some though a little too sweet.....but it is sticky-sweet sauce. Also tried the K-Pop chicken burrito....chicken was very crispy, a very nice burrito. We also had a side a Kimchi (apparently a family recipe) and also the TaKorea kimchi fries (Yummy!!)....fries covered with spicy pork and cheese and sweet korean sauce. We really really liked the Kimchi fries. And of course a few Korean Hite beers to accompany the dishes. Thanks for a great dinner. We will be back soon! Highly recommended.…Read More
