Booked a table for 5 and lucky to have a stand alone ocrner. The fish maw chicken soup is clear and would be even better if the taste can be strong. Other ingredients are so far so good. shame that they would charge for corkage. on the other hand they have craft local beers to serve! …Read More

The Peking duck had a nice crispy skin and the pancake had a good texture. The duck meat was a bit dry though. Other dishes were good quality. However the wine list is disappointing for a place which trying to act high class dining venue. Also the staff require further training in serving as well as the knowledge of the food and drink. I might not go again for this price range.…Read More

terrible Friday evening because of the bad service
La Paloma Spanish Restaurant
2017-10-13
I booked table 2 weeks in advance and arrived on time. but they didn't let u know before that they wanted the table back at certain time. two of us sat down and ordered food and drinks at 645 while waiting for the 3rd person to rush over from work. at 7pm, the lady came and told us that the table needed by 830pm. usually I would say ok but since it was a Friday and the 3rd person got stuck at work, I could not agree. moreover, they should tell u when u book, shouldn't they? then every 15 to 20 mins, the same lady came and reminded us about the departure time. by 830, we wanted to hv a last glass but she came back and wanted us to move away. we got angry and asked for the bill instead. 5 more mins later, this lady returned and told us a reservation has been cancelled so we could continue to stay. we insisted for the bill. how could we stay any longer after such service? or harrassememt??? no matter how good your food can be, we would never tolerate such poor service again. …Read More

The reputation is too high
Yensam's Kitchen
2016-10-20
I came with a colleague for lunch. The menu looks extremely attractive. We were sit in an attic which you need to pass through the kitchen and up the stairs.I ordered a mozzarella meat loaf (水牛芝士肉餅) served with rice. The meat is purely beef and the cheese is hardly tasted. The sauce is too oily and the rice had absorbed the oil which made it even harder to swollen. If you want to have soup, you will need to pay extra HK$5.00. It was a cream of pumpkin soup. If you asked me, I didn't find it as appealing as the staff recommended.…Read More

Wasn't worth to try
Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin
2012-08-01
Was planning to have lunch at the neighbouring restaurant, however, the queue was long so I decided to give it a try.I am not a fan of Japanese style pork chop, and they only serve in limited style. So I ordered sashimi rice. It was only 13:00 and this dish was already sold out. At the end, I ordered the prawn tempura with rice. The texture of the tempura was reasonably good. The prawns themsleves were quite big in size. However, the dish costs $190 which is quite pricey for a lunch.Anyway, at least I tried then I can choose to go back or not.…Read More

不好吃的煲仔飯
Ming Fat Cafe Restaurant
2012-01-05
…Read More

Interesting food
Nanhai No.1
2011-12-28
We decided to go out for lunch in the last minute. I was originally planned to go elsewhere, when those places were full. I wanted to find somewhere which is more unique, we have never been and memorable since my brother is in town. The name of this restaurant suits me very well since I work in a maritime industry. 南海一號 (Nanhai no.1) is referring to a junk which was built and sunk in the Sung Dynasty near Fujiang (福建泉州) province. The town was part of the maritime silk route for trading especially tea and porcelains. These characters could be found in the restaurant as part of its decoration. The restaurant is located on the 30th floor of the building. Half of the venue is covered by glass windows. You could see an authentic Chinese furnitures from reception to the tableware. If you paid extra attention, you could see an antique compass displayed on the reception table. We ordered mainly dim sum such as prawn dumplings (蝦蛟), Sui mei (燒賣), Crispy prawn and rice paper rolls (蝦米卷腸粉) , Seafood fried rice (荷香炒飯) and few more deep fried dim sums. I especially enjoyed the rice paper rolls. It was crispy enough, beautiful wrapped in layer. The outer part of the roll is thin and transparent (晶瑩通透). I also enjoyed the prawn dumplings, same as the roll, the pastry is thin and smooth. You can see the filling clearly wrapped by the pastry. The service was excellent. They tend to recruit young staff and they all dress in sailor style uniform. I would like to go back to try dinner menu. …Read More

Authentic fish & chip
Chippy
2011-07-25
Wanted to visit this small chippy for a while, finally after a long hot day, we decided to give it a try. What I really wanted was a glass of beer!Attracted by it's British style decoration, and the hand-written blackboard, I thought I was back to England. I tried the signature fish and chip with cod fish. There are not many places in Hong Kong would tell you the fish that they used. I have an interesting of trying few foods and weight the value. Fish and Chip is one of them (the others are fish ball and laska). The piece of fish is in a right size, the batter is thin so you have to bite and chew the meat. I would expect more moisture from the fish, was it overcooked? The home-made chip is excellent. It is definitely the UK style chips. I also like the mash potatoes, so creamy and smooth. We also tried the pickled egg. It is only a hard boiled egg and preserved in brine. The taste is having abit of vinegar, not too salty and honestly, quite refreshing with a bite of chip.Apart from fish and chips, they also served the typical English breakfast and pies. If you fancy the 'local' way of Mars Bar, you are in the right place. It is a dessert invented in England. A Mars Bar dip with a layer of batter and deep fry it. Worth to try.I will go back next time and try the English breakfast and sausages! …Read More

Lancs_Hotpot Sorry just have to post this.... The deep fried Mars Bar was invented in Scotland, not in England.

Excellent 盅仔飯
Sun Ming Fat Restaurant
2011-07-22
Since the first time I tried their 'steam rice', I have fallen in love with it, especially the "Steam chicken and mushroom rice". (I have noticed some photos have been loaded). The soy sauce is not too salty, the taste is just right. You need to be patient during the period of 7:30 to 8:30am ; 11:30 to 13:30pm .. and I imagine the evening time as well.Apart from the steam rice, I had ordered few dishes from this place for my western colleague. Her favourite is 揚州炒飯 and 魚香茄子. The fried rice is full of ingredients, good vegetables, fresh prawns and other common ingredients. You will have to wait for at least 10 mins for such food to deliver.Regarding to the service, well, for a local tea-house, it isn't too bad, they are nice people. However, if the old gentleman (I have a feeling that he might be the father of the owner) works as a casher, you need to pay extra attention on your charge. He often makes mistake in calculating the sum. I will miss this restaurant after moving out from Taipo. Not only the food but also the reasonable prices :)…Read More

An unforgettable meal -- BAD BAD BAD
Oliva

It is all my fault. I should not be tempted by the group coupon... I really thought there would be a reasonable Italian restaurant in Sham Shui Po area, I am so naive. As a food lover and cook, we should know COST = QUALITY (in Hong Kong). If a restaurant wants to survive in this expensive town, you can't really provide a high-standard food in cheap cost.We joined the set dinner using the group coupon. I did not even bother to take pictures during the meal. First of all, we were unhappy with the service. We booked a table, the waitress showed us a table near the entrance with poor air-conditioning. When we asked for change, she showed us a table right in front of the kitchen, on the other side of the restaurant. With these two choices, we ended up back to the first table. The wine list is terrible, only one red and one white to select. For this kind of place, they dare to charge $100 for corkage, unbelievable.Food ... cream of cauliflower soup ... it was thicken by starch or flour instead of from the original ingredients. It is a Hong Kong style cream soup. Caesar salad ... I dealt the salad dressing was a home-made one. Linguine with clam in butter sauce .. the paste wasn't "al-dente" enough. I would expect more from an Italian restaurant.Tenderloin with goose liver ... We asked for 40% cooked, it was done as 60%, not too bad compare to some places. The taste wasn't too special. Dessert, it was a tiramisu. The whole texture wasn't soft enough. The taste of liquor was quite strong. I have to say, it is the best dish for this set dinner.Service... I think they should either re-train the staff again, or get rid of them. I don't care if they earn $28 per hour or only working as summer job, they got to learn how to provide a good quality customer service. Forget about the food, I will not go back to this place because of the poor quality of service. The whole meal was a disappointment. My family has decided that we will pay extra and go for a better restaurant for an authentic Italian food.…Read More

Panda Portuguese Restaurant
2008-11-06
Husband and I spent a day in Macau, we didn't have too much time going over to Macau main island for a walk, so that we stayed in Taipa and hoped to find something special to eat.I have been to this Panda place many years ago. Remember my dad bought us to this place and had my first Portuguese meal.Because it was for lunch, we only ordered two dishes, plain rice and a bottle of beer each. Honestly, the dishes are much nicer than 小飛象 or 公雞. The environment is quiet, bigger and cleaner. It is worth to give it a try.…Read More

Laksa

My husband and I tried this place two weeks ago after viewing the comments from the site. We both used to live in Singapore so that we have high standard on dishes so called Singaporean-Malay-Indo cuisine. We were not disappointed at all. I had two main dishes and one soup. You can see the photos below. One comment I would like to provide to the shop is, all the dishes are served with a plate of plain rice. It is a good idea if you dine alone or very hungry. At first, we wanted to order one extra veggie dish instead of a soup. We didn't want to waste the extra plate of rice, so we made the suggestion of either not having the rice or exchange for a soft drink. But the staff insisted that there was not anything he could do apart from "having the plate of rice". That's why we end up having a soup instead of a veggie.Don't you think they need to be more flexible in such scenario?…Read More

BlueDuck Workshop - Chef's Soul Cuisine
2008-05-13
It was the third time I dined at this restaurant since the party night. I did not really taste the food in my first visit, so when my friends proposed to have our monthly gathering a week later, I was happily agreed. The atmosphere was still very comfortable. The staffs are getting closed with me and my friends. Because of me, we did not have lamb as the main course. I can’t be sure the titles of all dishes we had. I could only remember the sauces which being used in each dish is extremely special, delicate and … warm.Last night, I went back for my third time. As usual, we were the first arrivers, so we drank and chatted with the staffs in the open kitchen. It was so comfortable in looking at the cooking method. We mostly had seafood last night. The taste of each dish is still surrounding my mouth. We had a bottle of Portuguese wine to match with the first 3 courses. Honestly, we did not know the menu until we arrived. Of course, I knew that lamb would be off from the menu, hehe. Then we had a Burgundy red, from Vosne-Romanee to match with our main course, which is pan-fried beef fillet in red wine sauce and mushroom risotto. Risotto… I have to say, this is the only place I would come back again and again and again for risotto. I love its creamy texture, I love its mushroom flavour and I love it. I did tell the chef that the sauce is slightly salty to me. Well, it’s just my personal opinion, I eat very little of salt and sugar. The stomach was filled with good food and wines until this morning. Can’t wait to go back again in the near future. …Read More
