Great food & great service!

Considering the quality of the food and the great service, we thought they deserved more likes.I came across this restaurant on OpenRice, seeing that it was in a convenient location, so decided to try it out. We only ordered two dishes as my friend and I weren’t big eaters. We ordered one of the chef’s recommendations together with another dish. The flaming roasted spring chicken was a lot bigger than we expected, and a lot juicier than many other roasted spring chickens we’ve tried at other restaurants in the past. The sauce it came with was slightly spicy, but enhanced the flavour of the spring chicken, which ended up being a perfect match! We also ordered the lamb in yellow curry, and it came with either flaky pancake or garlic bread. Originally we were going to order the flaky pancake, but the waiter recommended the garlic bread, so we changed our mind. I was so surprised they actually put lamb rack into the curry instead of the usual lamb belly. The lamb rack was very tender and juicy, the taste of the curry just right, and the potatoes inside were soft but not mushy. As we were eating, the waiter came by to pass us some wet tissues, which we thought was really considerate! We visited on a Friday evening and it was rather quiet, although both private rooms were booked out. Considering the quality of the food and the great service, we thought they deserved more likes. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to our friends!!…Read More

Coffee Break (鴻輝大廈)

On a sunny Sunday afternoon, hubby and I were looking around for a nice and relaxing place to have our late lunch. We had a look at Openrice and found this place. It was around 3 in the afternoon and it was pretty full, but we managed to get a table for two. The tables were pretty packed together, leaving a 2cm gap between our table and the table next to us, but it seemed like a cosy place to be in. Hubby ordered the premium all day breakfast and I ordered the beef burger with fries. The all day breakfast consisted of scrambled eggs with truffle, two pieces of toast which were overly hard to bite into, two sausages, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans, and some salad on the side. At a price of $9x, we were definitely expecting a higher quality. My burger came a while later, and I was especially pleased with the fries. The fries were made just right, crispy on the outside and soft inside. It also came with ketchup and sour cream. The burger on the other hand was slightly disappointing. The beef was over marinated, and the pepper tasted had covered the beef taste completely. The beef was also overcooked. Oddly enough, one small piece of mushroom fell out when I was cutting the burger, but that was the only piece, so perhaps a misplaced piece? At a price of over $1xx, it was definitely not worth the price. Was definitely hoping for better food, but sorry, won't be visiting again. Sorry no photos as we were too hungry to eat.…Read More

…Read More

Poor quality control
LAB EAT Restaurant & Bar (金巴利道)

I've been craving for steak lately, so we called in to book a table. I made the call at 6:45pm to book a table at 7pm, and the waiter said there was still one table available. We arrived at 7:30pm, and it was half full already, despite it being a Monday night. The tables were packed together, leaving only a very narrow gap between each of them. It was slightly awkward as we were so close with the people around us that I we could easily see what each other were watching on their phones. Dim lighting, but a bit noisy as more people came in. Service was okay, could be a little better.I ordered duck foie gras as my starter, and hubby ordered French onion soup. The four gras was very appetising, and I finished it in no time! Hubby's French onion soup on the other hand, was a huge disappointment, as it didn't have much taste. We suspected that the soup didn't contain enough onions to bring out any flavour whatsoever, plus the onions were burnt, and the soup wasn't hot enough for the cheese on top to even melt.I also ordered the charcoal grilled 10oz rib eye steak, and hubby ordered the sirloin steak. The steaks took an awfully long time to arrive, suspecting they probably only have one chef inside. Both steaks came out looking the same in terms of the sides and the dish, but my rib eye appeared to look juicier than his. We both ordered our steak medium well, and mine was very juicy and tender, whereas his, on the other hand, was very dry and chewy. My steak was extremely tender and juicy on the sides, but slightly dry in the centre. The steak was pretty well made, but the red wine sauce wasn't that nice, so I didn't end up using it. Also overheard the people in the table next to us say that their seafood platter had a "weird" taste. The quality control doesn't seem to be very good, or it was just an unlucky day for hubby. Also noticed in the table in front of ours that some type of sauce was poured all over the customer's jacket, and the manager instantly ordered for the jacket to be taken to be drycleaned. That put a few marks back into the restaurant.…Read More

I was searching for a place to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary, and saw that they had nice foie gras here, so I made a reservation. The man said that they would call back within the next 2 days to confirm my booking since I was put on their waiting list. I waited for two days until the day before the actual day, but they still hadn't called back, so I called them up to see whether the booking was okay (because if it wasn't, I would need to book elsewhere. They said they were planning to call me on the next day, but the man sounded pretty rude. I didn't know how to respond to his rudeness, so I hung up.We arrived a little late to our booking, but we didn't need to wait. They handed us the menus and came to take our orders instantly, without giving us any time to look at the menu. We had a look at openrice before to see what were the popular dishes...Watermelon cold soup - tasted very weird and came in a very small portionFrench onion soup - the bread was quite hard to push down into the soup. The soup tasted a little burnt, but it was okay, at least better than the watermelon one.I forgot to take a photo of the bread, but it waa really nice - it was hot when it was given to us and it was filled with some herbs. It tasted good wehn dipped with vinegar and oil The dinner set also came with caesar salad. Not bad but I'm not a fan of salad, so I gave my dish to hubby.I was really excited to try the foie gras, although it being a pate and not the actual thing. The texture and taste was pretty cool, but did they mix up the salt and sugar? The top looks like what you get on creme brulee, but salty, no, like super duper salty, too salty. I thought I ate it wrong, so I tried dipping it in more beetroot sauce and eating it with the sides, and it seemed a bit better, but still really salty.Medium well sirloin steak turned out to be 100% cooked steak Salmon in miso soup and eggplant - quite an interesting mix. The salmon was slightly overcooked on the outside, but the soup tasted quite nice (a bit too sweet imo), but better than the steak I'd say. Here's the really disappointing part...I called earlier to ask them to write "Happy 4th Anniversary" on my dessert. I emphasised to the lady many times that it's our wedding anniversary. The lady spoke in English and wasn't a local Chinese, so I assumed her to understand...but no...my dessert ended up saying "Happy Both Anniversary" We told the staff after taking the photos, and they said sorry, but nothing else was done. The molten chocolate costs $50 more, and is made with 70% cocoa, which we didn't really appreciate, as the cake ended up being slightly bitter. As for the Bailey's Panna Cotta, I thought it tasted pretty good! The Bailey's was pretty strong though, but it's a good mix! :)The atmosphere was nice and relaxing, and we really wouldn't expect to see something like this at the centre of Mong Kok normally! The artwork around the place was really nice, and the toilet was quite clean, though there was no toilet paper, and both genders have to share one toilet.Near the end of the dinner, they asked us to fill in some forms for the raffle, but after handing in the forms, we never heard about the results or anything. The forms also entered us to join their membership, which we would get 10% on our future meals there.Probably won't revisit.…Read More

This restaurant has been one of my favourites, especially when choosing where to take my tourist friends. I've also tried other branches of the same restaurant, and there is nothing about the food which would stop me from visiting again. My good friend and I love to try out new places, and when we were walking around iSquare, we spotted this restaurant and were very eager to try it as neither of us had tried rice pizza before. Since trying out this restaurant, I've always put it on the top of my list when choosing unique places to eat at.There is nothing special about the inner design of this restaurant, as it just looks like any other Japanese restaurant around, but the outside design is quite attracting, as they hang different types of rice pizzas in the glass cabinet. One of the fusion dishes that I've ordered many times is the Peppered Chicken & Mango Rice Pizza:We also tried the Okonomi-yaki:And the Eel & Corn Rice Pizza:And the Steak Pasta in Teriyaki Sauce:The only thing they could improve on may be their service, otherwise, I would definitely recommend this restaurant! =)…Read More
