Did I order a salad or an eggs benedict?!
MG Cafe
2021-12-19
My mistake for not looking at photos before ordering. My eggs benedict had a healthy bunch of salad leaves but with a couple of stale pieces of baguette bread and low quality pale yolked eggs.I asked the waitress if that was the bread/muffin that comes with the dish. And made a comment that I felt I'd ordered a salad than an eggs benedict, and was disappointed. Hoping they'd give feedback to the owners/chef. She did not.Good things... she was attentive to give me tissue so the egg yolk doesn't run off the flat slate plate it is served on. They clearly know what will happen here...! The eggs are poached as they should be. Coffee isn't bad, though slow to come and had to chase as the food came before a black coffee!Sorry to express my disappointment. Cheated that I had paid near $180 for a black americano and "eggs and ham salad" including 10% service.Won't be going back. I hope the feedback gets to management to do better.…Read More

It is so bad! Do not go!
Burgeroom (Fashion Walk)
2020-06-25
I went to lunch with 2 colleagues, ordering the cheese burgers. The beef patty in all our burgers was gunk like in texture and of a purple, dark colour, I think this is because the 'meat' is frozen and thawed to flash grill. It was disgusting. Despite being soft in the middle, there was no blood. I question how much meat is actually in it! Very disappointing, even when I asked about it I was told it's medium cooked and is supposed to be gel-like in texture.Other comments about my visit: Bad service, brought out the wrong burger which I had to identify and take back to the counter. Unfortunately at Burgeroom, the customer is wrong.…Read More

Really mediocre food, bad service
Coffee Alley
2019-06-05
how does this place get an award?!smoked chicken sandwich comprised of dry crispy thin bread, limp iceberg lettuce and the egg salad it comes with is on a bed of the same iceberg lettuce, 3 slices of cucumber and bits of tomato. sandwich costs $50.the menu is extensive for coffee and drinks and I go for a standard americano. tasted like a normal coffee, nothing special.reason why I complain about the service is that they take cash only, I am not told this when I sat down. I am short by hk$5 and of course nearly $10 is the obligatory service charge, I am forced to find a cash point. as I go back upstairs to pay I realise that they had overcharged me for the sandwich, and actually I didn't need to go get cash.no apology, nothing. clearly they don't value my consumption. would not recommend this place. utterly disappointing given it's had food awards 😔…Read More

for a friday night, the queue went down quick. the service is quick and the sharing tables means that you dont hang around. the menu is in English and chinese so it's tourist safe. I overheard the waiter speaking English too.portions are a decent size for the price. about $50 for a bowl of beef brisket with soup rice noodles. but have some thing else on the side like their radish which is yummy. I'd definitely go again when I'm in the area. there are quite a few popular local places around tin hau worth checking out too. right opposite tin hau mtr station makes it very convenient. …Read More

Decent thai food, convenient, good service
Soi 18 Thai Cuisine
2019-01-19
Lovely location as in Causeway Bay but much quieter than other restaurants on a Friday night as it's tucked away in the world trade center, 13th floor.Extensive menu, with your normal and other less commonly found thai dishes. the chicken curry with puff pastry was the first ive seen in a thai place, rich in taste and pretty tasty. the herb wrap shrimps is rarely found in most thai restaurants and a nice little appetizer. tom yum goong has a good flavour, with plenty of mushrooms and 2 half prawns. the portion for 1 is enough for 2. pork neck dish is pretty standard as with all thai places.Plenty of staff and the food comes out pretty quickly. …Read More

Jaspas Restaurant
2019-01-19
Actually very disappointed with the food and service given the price.Table of 4 having a late lunch when Jaspas was not busy and having to wait at least 30 minutes for even a salad. The excuse was we ordered the fish and had to wait for it, I wasn't sure why they didn't ask if we wanted all dishes served together? Because that would be the most sensible thing to do.Dishes are quite small and expensive, plus 10% service. Food was nothing special, my friend had the snapper and said it was good. The other dishes of butter chicken curry, nachos and a salad was very average. I had the asparagus, Parma ham, halloumi salad, which was a bowl of mixed leaves scarcely scattered with some of the main ingredients and the ham was actually deep fried bacon!Sorry I will not be returning.…Read More

Little gem!
Umimachidon (Hoi Kwong Street)
2019-01-12
Loved the decor and feel of this new restaurant. ps. openrice says it's open at 5pm on Sat, it doesn't, opens at 6pm and the chef told us to leave for 30 min rather than letting us sit in the empty restaurant. But we wanted to eat so went back to get their Deluxe seafood don. Yum! Comes with their homemade vinegar jelly as an alternative to wasabi/soy. Then half way through you add their seafood soup to finish the rice bowl. Lovely and homely way to eat. We also ordered their house salad which was tasty.A little expensive for the area but very nice fresh seafood so I'll be returning!(I did return for a lunch and tried their Chicken katsu don, egg overcooked and overflavoured in my opinion unfortunately)…Read More

Nice place for a leisurely lunch
Wa San Mai
2019-01-12
Went as a 3 and opted for the teppanyaki business lunch for 3, plus an additional abalone. Teppanyaki tables very comfortable and we had the chef to ourselves. The venue is massive with loads of separated areas of tables, I got lost coming back from the washroom! It comes with a range of fois gras, snow crab legs, whelks, beef, fried rice, veggies, clams in sake, miso soup. So definitely enough for a long leisurely lunch. I could've had more food but the other ladies were pretty full.Taste wise I didn't think it was anything special and doesn't warrant this price point but the location, decor and service makes up for it if you value those things. Given HK has so many japanese teppanyaki places, I'm unlikely to return.…Read More

Local OK place
Chan Kan Kee Chiu Chow Restaurant
2019-01-12
We arrived late post working out, 9.30pm, and it was still quite busy but service is efficient, Chinese style!I was drawn in by the Michelin Guide awards. Their signatures appeared to be their soy goose and baby oyster congee. We needed a light dinner and chose a soy goose rice (btw it comes standard with bone unless you opt to pay for deboned $180 portion, which we didn't), and a plate of chinese kale. Portion size were average to low, not much meat which was disappointing, the preserves on the side were a nice tangy accompaniment. Chinese kale strongly flavored, and pretty tasty.Paying I was surprised to see tea cover charge and service charge. Cost of the dishes were ok I suppose for the location in the middle of Sheung Wan. I won't be rushing back but it's ok to check out and of course support local businesses. I did see other tables with full dinner dishes and it looked pretty good.…Read More

This gives Francis some competition! really good selection of dishes, solid flavours, good service. Waitresses are helpful in recommending dishes and suggesting the number of small and large dishes to share. My favourite was from the specials board on the night, squid with hummus. The lamb chops were nice and tender. …Read More

CHECK IN TAIPEI (Hollywood Road)
2018-12-31
Great location in Soho. Broad enough selection of Taiwanese dishes and presented well. My mate who frequents Taipei said the cheese thing could be way better but everything else we had were pret good. I thought the fried chicken and beef noodles were delicious! Will definitely return when I'm in the area. They take bookings as well which is great. …Read More

Okonomiyaki Dohtonbori Restaurant (K11 Art Mall)
2018-12-30
Handy guide available in Chinese and English on how to cook your okonomiyaki. The difficult one was the Hiroshima one which needed a bit of planning before cooking. It's all prepped for easy cooking. Go easy on the sauces, it's pretty salty and gets unhealthy. A bit of fun, cheap and cheerful eating.…Read More

Quiet location, mediocre but novelty afternoon tea
Urban Park
2018-12-30
Had the Butterfly Afternoon Tea set for 2. Decent price but you soon discover that after the nice presentation, the food is very subpar. You don't even get a proper teapot of tea but it is refilled from a vat of tea made. The plant pot cake was substituted by some cupcake with floral icing. Felt like it was all bought from a supermarket.…Read More

Buenos Aires Polo Club
2018-12-30
Love love love the decor and service. Right in the middle of Central. We had the chateaubriand which was cooked well, they even catered for my friend who wanted medium whilst I wanted medium rare. The steak came cooked wrapped in salt which made it quite salty for us. Comes with 4 sauces, all yummy! Our golf salad was a great size to share as a starter and our especially made plum flambe was cooked by the table making the evening really fun! You also get to choose your weapon (steak knife).…Read More

BEANS The Backyard (PopCorn 2)
2018-12-30
The Backyard breakfast combines English breakfast, eggs royale and waffles in one dish! An OK eat, with decent coffee.
