Enjoyable high tea with conceptual experience
The Butterfly Room
2021-09-25
Boy I must be so lucky to snatch a table for 4 online on the 1st of the month. Waited around 2 months before we finally get to eat at the long awaited Butterfly Room. We ordered champagne cold brew tea - MUST order. It was wonderfully concocted and it's so nice to take a sip alongside the high tea items.Sandwiches at high tea are generally fail-proof. I'd say the variety here is good and more unusual than other places are serving. They also bother to put in effort on the outlook as each sandwich dons a different colour and comes with matching garnishing. The cream of mushroom soup was delish too. Very smooth and had a nice aroma to it. Some creamy soups have hints of sweetness but this is more savory and I prefer it this way.Scones are decent. Warmly toasted. Tasted hints of cheese in the scones too.The dessert trolley! As my partner is starting on a new job the next day, I secretly stated it was a congratulatory occasion in the online confirmation form.I must say I loveeeee the vanilla creams used in this dessert trolley. The vanilla taste was fragrant and sweetness was just nice. Everything with the cream on it was super awesome. The chocolate dessert trolley! Love that Butterfly Room designed the course with concept in mind. Like white vs black. By this time, we are pretty full already. But still we enjoyed all of the items except for the Swiss rolls. >.< Love the rum in the black forest Cake. It was so good. I believe if I weren't that full, I would have savoured the cake happily by myself. The alcohol in tiramisu was also generous. We asked for only a very small piece of the chocolate bar. The nuts in the chocolate bar were roasted nicely that the bar has a fragrant nutty taste to it.My partner's favourite is the chocolate banana tart. I'm sure you can imagine why. The chocolate taste didn't overwhelm the banana.I believe the high tea has opened the door as to whether I'll order individual piece of pastry from Rosewood. …Read More

Booking here are 2-hour slots. We came for 2 to 4 pm slot as we felt it would be more relaxed to do this time slot (and indeed it were ;) There were 3 of us and it was such a lovely lunch. We had the escargots and the sauce was lovely because I'm a garlic fan. Good to have it with the bread they served as well. Snails had no bad taste nor tasted off - so it's a good sign. This is the veal tatare with scallops & caviar. Texture of tatare was a bit chewy, not that tender so not our fave dish.We loved this. Honestly I didn't expect pate to taste this good. The taste was very multi-dimensional. And a super good match with the pickles provided on the side. Must order. This went way above our expectations. Felt like the thoughtfulness of the chef came through. It had the grilled taste and the condiments worked its magic on the assorted vege. Every piece was delicious. We expected it to taste bland but it didn't. Yummy. The gravy was good. The dish was savory with hints of sweetness. And again, it was a really thoughtful dish. Eat everything together and it was another level of palatable experience. The truffle pieces are not oozing with strong, distracting truffle taste. This was a today's special dish. Had mashed eggplant (we think) and pesto to match with.Ordered duck confit. It was aromatic and the skin was sinfully good. Should eat the duck with the fruity sauces to tone down the saltiness. This is so special, having the creme brulee in the fruit itself. The creme brulee had strong hints of passion fruit. This also helped such that the creme brulee is not too "rich" to finish Our friend always enjoyed profiteroles so we ordered this. The chocolate may tasted like dark chocolate but once you have everything in one mouth, the sweetness was perfect.Highly recommend to book this restaurant. The dishes were very thoughtful, like you would have to enjoy every ingredient together to get the complete taste profile. …Read More

Cafe with great chill ambience and good food
Doubleshot by Cupping Room
2021-04-18
Another day exploring cafe in Central. And saw this chill cafe upstairs. The interior was pretty and ambience was great. Was browsing through the popular options on OpenRice and so decided to order the Katsu-sando. The pork was juicy and well marinated. Plus it wasn't like a huge slab of meat, which will accentuate any dryness. Combination of spring onions and onions was a good match. Didn't regret ordering it. The chicken waffles description caught our eyes as it is not a typical waffle. It is made of croissant dough and it's a hit! Tasted good and the dish was creative. Very appetising with Kim chi dressing.Iced coffee was good as it went with oat milk, lending a thicker texture. Added CDB oil to our cup of cappuccino. This cup was good too.Burnt cheesecake was not bad. Actually by this time we were very full. So didn't manage to finish it. But it's a good match with the coffees for sure.…Read More

Broken ceramic piece found in food
Acquasala
2021-04-10
Came here for lunch. Ordered the scallop and ravioli dish. Was having the ravioli dish and in my last second bite, I bit something crunchy. Knowing that the contents of ravioli would not contain anything hard, I spat it out. Didn't think much of it and looked at my last remaining piece. Saw nothing suspicious and finished it. Then realised that the hard thing, about 5mm in length, actually came from the serving bowl itself - by observing the colours and patterns. We decided to report the incident to the waiting staff as we agreed that it was important for the restaurant to take note. We told the waitress very calmly and as a matter of fact to note the bits of the bowl had likely fallen into the food. It was all good as the waitress did apologise very briefly and agreed that the piece came from the serving bowl. And we were planning to finish our drinks and leave. Then, within 1-2 minutes, a very loud and agitated comment came from the kitchen area (?) that, "They complained after they finished the dish!!" Isn't this uncalled for? First it was not even a complaint. We felt it was important for restaurant to note such details. Is it acceptable for broken pieces to be found in diners' food? Second, the attitude was incorrigible. The comment was so loud, it seemed to be deliberate for us to hear. Yet we did not kick up a fuss still and left shortly after. I don't know why I have to pay service charge when the service is so bad? Which I did. If you're wondering about the food quality, Central has many restaurants that easily surpass this place. This is our first and hopefully only bad review. …Read More

Super tasty ramen 😋
Ramen House Konjiki Hototogisu (Festival Walk)
2021-01-31
Came here on a weekday afternoon, around 3pm? And thus there was no queue. Very happy to discover a new ramen place at Festival walk. Also the cold winds were so strong on the day we had it. Ramen was such a good option to warm the bodies and stomach. The outside of the restaurant. I find that the shop front is not very obvious - a bit easy to miss. The inside was still comfortable to sit though. Cause we had the booth seats.Liked that they provide detailed information on the ramen. At least you know what you're having and I like that! This soup base is bit richer in taste compared to the other soup base (review below). Had faint truffle taste which went very well with the soup. Ordered this. But I think it's ok. Not bad and also juicy, but not a must order. This is what I had. And I like shio because it's a lighter broth, yet the richness of the soup broth still shone through. There's also a faint truffle taste, I almost wanted to finish the whole bowl of soup. The char siew was also very good, unlike other ramen shops where the texture tend to be on the harder or dryer side, this char siew was soft, fatty with the right amount and well marinated. Ordered an egg as a side. Nice (a bit tough to fail on this?)Also ordered a warm drink, not part of set. The presentation is quite average though. Verdict: Must try! And I can't wait to come back again.. kept thinking about the tasty ramen....…Read More

Green Common (海港城)
2021-01-31
Harbour city weekend lunchtime can get quite busy. So we decided to have vegetarian food (less popular choice perhaps?) and the casual dining concept was pretty welcoming. Ordered the laksa. It's not spicy so definitely suitable for most people. And I found it to be tastier than the burger (see burger review below). Would be good if it were served with more vegetables. Like the portion too - isn't overflowing with noodles. Very easy to finish the dish. The spam fries, unfortunately, was a bit hard and dry. I have not tried similar vegetarian options before so I don't know if it's actually normal. Would not order this again. The burger is quite plain and dry. Of course beyond patty should not be compared to impossible patty. The taste, texture, bun were very average.Verdict: Vegetarian is definitely the way to go. I would recommend to try the laksa (and maybe other more Asian dishes?) In fact I came back a second time and had the laksa again. …Read More

Good for desserts
WoZi
2021-01-16
Came here during tea time. About 2.30pm on a weekday and there's a slight queue! Waited around 15 mins to get a table.Interior is rather dim and of rustic feel. Decided to go for waffles because it seemed like the signature dish. Went for savoury because the 2 of us thought to order another sweet dessert dish to complement.Slow cooked pork was decent (could be softer), with obvious peppery taste. Waffle tasted not bad, just that could do with more sauce or syrup?Else it tasted a little bit dry when we had it.Ordered the apple crumble. The pastry was very, very crispy and fragrant. Would recommend to order this. Ordered this drink as I saw other reviewers recommending it in OpenRice. And I was happy to have done that. The drink was not too sweet, which I liked. A very nice drink to warm the stomach on cold days. I will also recommend friends to order this when they visit the cafe.Verdict: Will recommend friends to enjoy desserts here. …Read More

Wanted to for high tea near Christmas period and chose The Peninsula. Good thing was you don't have to wait in queue to get a table. Just leave your name and no with the servers.Xmas decor on your table... giving off the holiday vibes when you take picture of your food Restaurant has interesting selection of tea blends. This is a two-person serving.Items I super like: the tofu panna cotta, crab/ lobster (can't quite remember it now) mousse. Items I don't really like: the chocolate cake. Too sweet!! Overall, the peninsula high tea was a pleasant experience. But would be better if there's a view. …Read More

Must come for cheese fondue
The Swiss Chalet
2021-01-03
Stepped into this place and found the interior to be very different from modern and HK cafes. It has a lot of wood, very reminiscent of European eateries. Here's a peek of the interior. The entire restaurant seems quite huge.Had the French onion soup and it was tasty! Meat platter. But some of the selection has quite gamey taste, especially the beef. So I'd say it's an okay dish.Sauteed Yellow mushrooms on spinach, with a creamy base. The cream base was good although the spinach tasted a little saltier.Cheese fondue which was very awesome. It definitely wasn't the very cheesy and salty type since it also had a good amount of alcohol in it - can taste it! We loved the dish.Cordon bleu (pork) and noodles. The cordon bleu was crispy and the pork was decent too. Not too tough to chew. The noodles, however, were really plain spaghetti. Could be tradition. But we were not used it it and we got creative and dipped the noodles in the sauce of other dishes. We also ordered a Swiss white wine which was very easy to drink. And had alcohol percentage of 13% - rather unusual for white wines? Would encore the white wine in next visit. Below picture is an after meal drink which we ordered to try. For me, I would only try it once Also ordered movenpick ice creams to end off a wonderful meal.Verdict: would recommend friends to try the cheese fondue too. Would also be back for another visit when we have a craving for cheese fondue. …Read More

Fusion Korean with comfortable seating
Bib n Hops
2021-01-03
Went during lunch time and ordered the lunch sets. Restaurant was spacious and temperature was comfortable (during winter).Tomato soup with Thai flavours.Salad - sweet tangerines with pickled beetroot. Dressing was sweet and sour and spicy.Had the mouth watering chicken. The sauce has the spicy peppercorn taste, which was numbing. Definitely a more fusion bibimbap. Looked appetizing. And also the Ginseng chicken soup. It is more bitter than most soups I've tried. But definitely very warm to have this during colder days. And instead of glutinous rice, they served vermicelli.Mediocre tiramisu. Normal, and luckily not too sweet type.Dishes were in big, generous portions. Quite decent. Verdict: As this place is not crowded, definitely an option when you'd want to have some comfortable seating without pressure to give up your table.…Read More

Was looking for a comfortable space in North Point and came across this place. Quickly took a ticket and could be seated once all arrived at the venue. Didn't take too long to have a table but I was waiting for my partner to arrive so that we could be seated down. The exterior looked quite cute and fresh looking! Here's a sneak peek of the inside. They had booth tables - seemed quite comfortable.Best of both worlds. Laksa (which also comes with noodles) and Hainanese chicken rice. Very BIG portion. My partner couldn't finish the rice in the end. The chicken was tender, not dry. The rice was decent too.So I had the prawn noodle. Quite impressed that the yellow noodles did not "grow fatter" as time passed. Soup base is slightly spicy but manageable. But prawn taste not strong. But still a good dish with various ingredients. Do check out the paper design at the bottom. Very pretty!Had the mint lychee soda and some orange tea. Actually we didn't order the orange tea (was a good drink!) but was too confused to realise it was a wrong order. Quite impressed that the restaurant serves a wide and exciting variety of drinks to go with the lunch sets! Verdict: Will be happy to come back again to try other dishes & drinks too!…Read More

Comfortable & pretty Western restaurant
MR & MRS FOX
2020-12-05
Here for a weekday lunch. Was looking for somewhere comfortable to have lunch as this area mainly had smaller, packed eateries. Saw this in a corner and settled for it. Comfortable, rustic space. Ordered a lunch set and an ala carte main.Added in peach tea (+10hkd) and it was a good choice. Unlike usual typical peach teas, this came with foam and the drink wasn't sweet. Slurps.Chestnut soup. Very earthy, nutty taste. Not overly creamy. Main - pork belly in mushroom sauce. The sauce itself was yummy but it made the dish tasted a bit too rich (due to the fatty pork belly). Would be better if the sauce was a bit more citrus? Despite the pickled cucumbers, they weren't sour enough to complete the dish. The pork itself was quite tender and juicy with decent texture. The ala carte main was truffle mushroom risotto. Plating wise was very pretty and you could observe a layer of oil (?) over the risotto, with a egg yolk in the middle. I think there were cheese in the risotto as it had a tinge of sour taste to it (anyone had any idea why? or was it the mushroom?) The truffle taste, despite looking like a huge amount of it in the picture, was not as fragrant as it looked.Verdict: I would definitely be happy to come back again for a comfortable meal but likely to try other items. Not really recommending the risotto dish though.…Read More

Another western vegetarian choice
404 Plant
2020-12-04
My weekend vegetarian brunch! There was no queue around 12? It started to get packed after some time. Ordered the spicy guacamole bagel. The plain bagel was a bit tough and chewy. Contents wise was decent. Not spicy at all though. Would have preferred it to have onions, lime and spicier taste? The charcoal bagel was softer . Smelled good upon its arrival. Liked the combination of ingredients - with hash brown, mushrooms etc. The truffle taste was not evenly distributed though. Just some parts were obvious and some parts couldn't taste it. Not too sure if I appreciate a cheese base sauce to go with this dish. But I definitely recommend people to go for this dish on first visit! Had coffee tonic. Nice.Interior - very cool aesthetics here. The menu. Very easy to read and choose! (:Would be interested to be back and get flavoured bagels. …Read More

Must try soup curry rice
Asiri
2020-12-01
Ate lunch set on a weekday. The cafe has a Hokkaido theme. This came as part of the lunch set. The cup is actually chicken soup! Not too bad. Drinks selection is aplenty - not just the usual coffee or tea. I got the green apple tea. The potato salad was also yummy. Not the kind overdose with mayo sauce. Although the salad is little but at least it was still fresh. At first I was skeptical how the soup curry tasted like. I thought it would be heavy but actually it was a very light broth. And felt healthy. I had the one with chicken and the vegetables made an impression. It was actually tasty, it seems to be grilled first before being boiled in the soup? It was fragrant. I'd definitely recommend to try the soup curry for a first visit. Here's how to have the soup curry! My partner ordered pork cutlet butter rice. This was more on the heavy and greasy side. But it's still very fragrant. The pork cutlet was ok. Quite like the rice quality served here, as well as the portion. The portion was just nice, unlike those places which served a mountain load of rice. This is perfect and can finish without burden.Verdict: will be happy to come back for another meal. …Read More

Came here on a weekday, after lunch hour? And had to wait for 45 mins so be prepared to come early or have the patience to wait for a table. The sausage roll was not bad and you could tell it's homemade, not from some factory line.
