BWC lamma

Having spent the day wandering Lamma Island, my group consisting of 3 heavy meat eaters and 1 vegetarian, settled on this nice looking cafe - I can't explain why, for some reason the urban 'hipster' vibe just drew us in.First impressions are as expected, small space, full of people, quiet music. We take a seat. The menu is presented to us, and as an avid "no meat, no good" minded person I am (was, we'll get to that), I was left to choose something vegetarian. I eyeballed the menu a few times, full of organic, natural goodness - but still no meat. I finally decide on a pizza (Option E), the exact ingredients I can't recall, as well as a 'Bookworm Lemonade'. My party decide on their food; 2 vege burgers and another pizza. As we wait, we look around at the decor. A well stocked bookshelf on one side, which to our surprise had books for loan - the other side full of old goodies, hippy slogans and written quotes. The drinks come first, 4x 'Bookworm Lemonade'. Fantastic. Just how a lemonade should taste. Not too sweet, not too sour - gone in seconds, left to be savoured in my belly. A second is ordered hastily.Food arrives, and although sceptical about a vegetarian pizza, it does look good. As we dig in, sounds of delight come from my party, my self included. The pizza base was perfect, the cheese a perfect cheesiness, the toppings delicious, and the sauce equally so. About half way through my partner reminded me that I was eating a vegetarian pizza. At this point I had over-come my "no meat, no good" mentality, and powered down the second half of my pizza - washing it down with a second lemonade.Overall, very pleased. The food was delicious, the service as expected, and the vibe was 10/10. Will dine here again.…Read More

I had heard about this restaurant through a friend, so thought I'd give it a try, and I'm glad I did. I went with my partner, and we were advised we may need to book in advance other-wise we may not get a seat, so I booked a table online using their website - very handy. We had booked for 7.30, but arrived earlier at around 7.00. We were instantly greeted by a very friendly Italian (I think) man. He then walked us to our reserved table, along the window counter facing outside. We were first talked through the wine list, followed by an explaination of the menu, which was all drawn on a chalkboard at one end of the restaurant. A nice touch. The wine list was huge, and my knowledge of Italian wines is limited - so I waived down a waiter who came to help. To my surprise he was not Italian, I think he was either Australian or South African, however he seemed to know his stuff, and suggested a different glass for each of us after we told him what we liked. He hastily returned with our wines, and we ordered food. The waiter advised that the dishes are intended to be shared, so we would need around 2 per person, we asked for some suggestions, and he strongly suggested the lamb ribs. We ordered a portion of the lamb ribs, a broccoli dish, a steak and the cabbage salad. While we waited we sipped away at what we began to realise were fantastic wines. As we weren't sure what they were I asked the waiter if he could show us the bottles - and he did. I was drinking something called "Cantina Giardino Nude", and my partner had a "L'Arco Pario".The food then arrived, first came the broccoli. The dish was small, however a good size for two to share, and it was delicious. Next came the lamb ribs, and I'm so glad the waiter suggested them. They were covered in a fantastic citrus coating - I think I could eat just those ribs for the rest of my life. Finally the steak came out, accompanied by the cabbage salad. As my partner is vegetarian, I (un)willingly ate all of the steak, while she had majority of the cabbage salad. Top notch. When the waiter came to clear out dinner plates, we were asked if we wanted any dessert. After little contemplation, we decided on the "zuppa inglese", which we learned is Italian for trifle. We ordered more of the same wine also - couldn't resist. Dessert arrived, and it was good. Lady fingers which were soaked in liqueur of some kind, I think cherry, custard cream and chocolate cream.Overall, I'm so glad I have found this place. The service was amazing, the food was awesome and the wine was outstanding - 10/10. …Read More

Completely average. My partner and I went here with high expectations, but we were let down. It's lunch time, so we step inside to a reasonably empty restaurant and stand like two lost children for a couple of minutes until the waiters have finished their conversation. When we are finally seated, the table is somewhat disappointing. Of the two water cups, one had an insect dying inside, the other a hair. The cutlery had not been polished so had water stains all over. The wine glasses had not been dried correctly so again were covered in water stains. We are given the lunch set menu, which looks delicious, and reasonably priced. The waiter gets our order by ear, repeats it back but is completely off, after correcting him he takes off. A few minutes later he returns to double check our order.... Would a pen and paper not save the trouble? The drinks came out; an orange juice and a diet coke - diet coke tasted more like water. The food then came out, and true to the menu, it was delicious, the absolute saving grace. We had both ordered a souvlaki. And it would have to be one of the best souvlakis I've ever had. 10/10. My suggestion to my fellow diners would be to get take-away. The food I will eat again, the dining experience I will not repeat.…Read More

Fantastic. Having been living near Wompoa for some time, this place has been on my list of places to eat. My partner and finally decide to go, and I'm so glad we did. It was lunch time, just about to roll over to the dinner menu (3pm). We entered and were instantly greeted, perfect. We were told there will be a 5 minute wait, as the table we would be dining at were just paying the bill. We are seated, and the table is very nicely presented and clean. We are given two menus, one being lunch, the second dinner. We are nicely told that it is last order time for the lunch menu, so we decide fast. I order a beef burger from the lunch menu and my partner being vegetarian orders a pasta from the dinner menu, without meat. The waiter takes our order and returns hastily with the drinks, shortly followed by some fresh brown bread with butter, and the soup of the day - both were delicious.Mains came out, my burger looks exactly how it should, and my partners' pasta had been given additional vegetables to cater - very kind. Both dishes taste amazing, which seems to run with the theme of this review.I will dine here again, for sure…Read More
