Cantonese Style
Lan Fong Yuen
2009-07-23
My Cantonese friend took me to this Cantonese style restaurant at Central. The restaurant has a historical background of 50 years. But they maintain it quite will; the walls, furniture, utensils and equipments seem to be in good condition. We arrive there around 1.45pm, there are still people queuing up waiting for a table. But luckily after 10 minutes there is a table for 2 of us.The service was really good (maybe because we are pretty ladies..hehe), the staff knows ladies don’t eat much so they give us two bowls to share the noodle and cut the bun into twos for us. There are no rushing customers or impolite attitudes. The milk tea was really really….. nice~ so is my friend’s lemon ice tea.The prices of dishes are quite expensive for the kinds of food that serve there, but it’s a good place for experiencing Cantonese culture and style of cuisine. …Read More

What a nice weather to go out for lunch~Me and my other two colleagues decided to come to this restaurant since last week, but I saw some bad comments about this restaurant before I came so I was pretty worry that it might not taste good but after trying, it turn out to be pretty good. These are the dishes we’ve ordered;Braised noodle with wonton set lunch (a dish of boiled vegetable)Rice with mince beef, tomato & egg in soup set lunch (a dish of boiled vegetable)G-Leaf with pork, salty egg and beansThe dishes are quite big, especially the rice in soup I think the portion can be share between two to three people and it tastes good too. I personally like the wonton the prawn it’s fresh and crisp and the noodles are chewable and not too hard. My stomach it’s quite weak so I didn’t have much sticky rice but it is also tasty too. …Read More

Early Birthday Celebration~
The Grill
2009-04-22
We saw this TV show the other day introducing this restaurant buffet so my parent wants to try plus it’s my birthday soon, so we decided to have an early celebration. The restaurant it’s at a nice outdoor area:), it’s a really good place to be during summer or nice sunny days, I love the surrounding area especially their small water fall with the swimming pool and there is a message area for the hotel guests felt like I’m in Thailand. There are not many choices for the buffet, but all the foods are nicely prepared like the five star restaurants. The Grill is prepared into 4 different sections; the first section being the cold seafood :)there are snail, king prawn, some kind of prawn and French mussels, the second section is the salad bar there are many different variety of greens, dressing and meats to go with the greens, third section being the BBQ area, there are my favorite fishes (there are three kind of fish but I don’t know the name of it), beef steak, King prawn, octopus, veggies, different kinds of mushroom, Spanish fried rice and etc. Finally the dessert section there is two kind of smoothies milk and banana (it taste really good), Haagen-Dazs ice cream (individually packed), I think there are 5 kinds of different cakes being ginger cheese cake, peach chocolate cake, cherry pie and can’t remember the other two, fresh fruits. The buffet costs HK$390 per person with unlimited red and white wine and sparking wine and if you don’t drink alcohol it’s HK$320 per person. It rain just after we finish dessert so it was lucky, the waiters bring towels and umbrellas to the tables. The services are great; waiters are all with lovely smiles, dirty plates are clear quickly, drink orders are efficient and the foods are all nice and fresh.…Read More

Wanting to try the traditional Cantonese yum cha, arrive around 12pm there are already full of peoples everywhere, you can’t really say the restaurant it’s got bad service because they don’t offer services. :(Finally we found a small sitting area that just fit four people it’s time to have lunch. One of us needs to go and get the foods by terms because there are too many people around the kitchen area the food gets taken very quickly. We tried most off the Dei Sum, but none of them are nice it’s either tasteless:( or over cooked. I don’t think I will ever visit again. There are no services, the environment it’s too crowned, cutleries are unclean and people are impolite I can even find flies in my cup of tea. …Read More

Friday Night~
Balalaika
2009-04-22
It’s a really good place for a Friday night out with friends or family. The restaurant itself it’s quite hard to find, but still many customers through the nigh. The environment is really relaxing and romantic there are Russian decorations on the walls and candles on the table. The foods are nice especially the grill beef and grill seafood 串燒. Every time a tables串燒 arrives the waiter will yell out *&^%$# (I think it something in Russian), it’s pretty fun by watching they light up some fire on the beef and seafood.…Read More

Gourmet Burger
Shake'em Buns
2009-03-26
It’s the first time I’ve seen such a big burger…. Luckily I went there with my friend otherwise I wouldn’t be able to finish the burger myself…. My friend said this branch it’s the biggest compare to the one in Wanchai and Central… so I think it’s better to come to this one if you want to sit down and have a chat with your friend. The burger we’ve order its call ‘Hawaiian Surfer Girl’ there are bacon, pineapple, beef and cheese, it’s really refreshing and the beef it’s nice and juicy, but if the bun it’s toasted or hot than it will taste even better. The size of Poutine “A” was disappointing, it wasn’t as BIG as I thought, but it still taste nice. The strawberry shake was tasty too, but it’s better to share with our friends other wise you would be able to finish it.There are a few things I like about this restaurant, firstly it’s the names they use on their menu it’s really creative and smart when you sew it, secondly I like the sitting areas the materials the restaurant used are all made by wood and it’s like the old American country style you see in those cowboy movies. Finally it’s the self service sauces, I like the choices of the sauces they have and there are also pickle and onions you can add to your hot dogs. …Read More

The baby prawn in dry noodle was a little too oily and I couldn’t taste or smell any prawn but the noodle itself was pretty nice it’s not too soft or too hard; maybe I should try the jellyfish or grill squid with dry noodle instead.Dishes ordered:Baby prawn plus wonton in dry noodle Pig feet – really tender but the dish was too smallDeep fry Fish ball – it’s not oily and it’s made from nice fresh fish meat you can tell by the taste there were not bad seafood smell to it.Fish skin – a really smart dish made from the left over skin of the fry fish ball dish and it taste good too.White radish cooked in chicken stockCoke in glass bottle and Soya milk in glass bottle…Read More

Comida Portuguesa O Santos
2009-03-25
I sew this nice Portuguese restaurant at the TAIPA area on Openrice call 'Estb de Comidas Amagao', but when we went there the shop was close during lunch times and the outside looks rather small, dark and old so my parents and I decided to go to the one on the main side street. The environment of the restaurant was really nice and people starts to line-up around 11.45am waiting for it to open at 12pm there were advertisements for the Weekend weekly magazine outside the shop in case you can’t find it. The restaurant was decorated by all these soccer goodies on the wall and there were nice paintings too, I’m guessing the owner of this restaurant must be a fan of soccer. Time to order the menu have photos beside the dish names easy for customers to pick their order we order 5 dishes in total plus two bottle of wine, their wines are all from Portugal and it really good value, it costs around $70 Macau dollar and it taste good too.The dishes we’ve order includes:Grill fish fillet with garlic oil- I can’t remember the name of the fish, but the waitress said it’s not always available, depends on the season and it’s really taste.Curry crab Portuguese style - I don’t really like curry cook with coconut milk, but this one taste really nice, especial dip with their special bread (free)….Yum~Stir-fry clams – Too full to try, but my parents said it was niceRoasted prime ribs – One of my favorite, the rib it’s really tasty and tender there are butter smell to it and the potato chips it’s really nice too, it taste really different to ones we normally have, I think it’s the oil they use, better ask next time I visit.Steam vegetableIt’s my first time having Portuguese cuisine and I’m loving it^^…Read More

The environment are really nice, it's a great place for couples. The size of the dishes it’s too small, but the presentation and quality of the foods are in good standard.Overall I will recommend the steam crab soup bun, I think it’s the only special dishes that’s worth trying…. Other dishes are just normal dishes you can find in any Shanghai restaurants.…Read More

Wat Yat Noodles

This time I ordered a wonton soup (10 wontons), egg noodle shanghai style (spicy), panfry onion cake and a plate of boiled Chinese vegetables. The size of the dishes never disappoints me; wonton was really nice and big, my Mum and Dad likes the shanghai egg noodle, they said the sauce and soup are up to standard and the noodle it’s very fresh, I didn’t have any cause it’s too spicy for me.Last time I had the sour and spicy soup, it was one of my favorite.:)…Read More

Really Efficient Service
Kaneda Japanese Restaurant
2009-03-24
At first I was planning to take my parents to this Japanese style buffet on Friday but it was fully booked, so I book a table for 3 around 7.30pm on Thursday instead. On arrival, the restaurant was already packed with people and our table were place in the centre of the restaurant. I have to mention the air-conditioning, it too COLD~ I think it’s better to bring a warm jacket along if you are planning to go.I’ve being to two other Japanese buffets at the Central area and this one it’s similar in ordering foods from the paper slips, but the sitting and service was much better. Especially the efficiency of the service, my parents and I was amazed by how fast they serve the food it only took them half hour to bring all these foods to our table for the first round. There are some dishes I really liked it:Crab rare saladBeef tong grillGrill SirloinGrill MushroomGrill Anchovies Tempura OysterThere are also some comments I need to make, first was the sashimi; it was nice and fresh but tasteless and the drinks; there were no free drinks except green tea. By comparing to the Japanese buffets at Central, Kaneda really need to improve their menus otherwise overall it was just another Japanese buffet. …Read More

My parents always pick restaurant by the presentation of the restaurant.... But because I saw many good comments on Openrice so I decided to take them for a visit of this Cantonese style restaurant.... It's not fancy but it's clean, tidy and their services are better than most restaurants in HK.We've order 6 dishes altogether: Snail in Chili oil The snail was not really chili but the meat of the snail was cooked just right not too rare and not to hard.... it was chewy and soft in the inside Sea Shell scallop with rice noodle My personal favorite~ yum..... Some kind of shellfish in chili bean curd sauce It's the first time having this kind of shellfish never seem it before, the shell look a little like the bamboo shoot and it was nice too. Fisherman style Crab (Mile Chili)It's really nice with rice, but if by itself it's a little too salty. Deep Fry TofuPresentation was nice and the tofu it's really smooth inside and crisp on the outside. My parent and I was impress by the skill the chief have, even though the dishes did not come out quick, but when you finish one dish the next one will be ready to serve..... I'm guessing there are only one or two chief doing the cooking and it's all freshly made.…Read More
