Best pizza in Hong Kong
Fiata Pizza
2022-05-25
I’ve been to this restaurant three times in the course of a month. The pizza is mindblowingly good. Real authentic pizza from Naples. The dough and the ingredients amazing. My favourites are the mortadella pizza and the spicy pizza. Compared to other pizzas you find in Hong Kong the crust is thicker but it’s also quite “airy”, meaning it’s not too heavy in your stomach. I also tried the salad which was really good. …Read More

My favourite place for pizza in Central
La Camionetta
2021-03-06
I visited with my two children (6 and 7) and a friend of mine on a Saturday for lunch. We four (Bavarian and Austrian pizza lover) were in for a surprise. The food was truly fantastic! We ordered the Burratta Platta, two pizza, two Tiramisu for my children plus two beers for us. The Burrata Platta came first and it was superb. The cheese was proper (soft on the inside), the ham was amazing, bread still warm and the cherry tomatoes also tasted like tomatoes, not like water as can often be experienced when buying it in local supermarkets. The pizza had a decent size. Dough was as it is supposed to be, thin on the inside with a nice crust around. Ingredients comprised Italian salami, prosciutto (the good authentic stuff), artichokes and tomato sauce. Despite us four sharing “only” two pizzas and the burrata (and having skipped breakfast) my Austrian friend and I barely finished. It was just too good. Thumbs up to that.Service was friendly and professional, premises were super clean and the restroom was decorated like a living room. Overall fantastic place. It’s a bit small (no surprise, we’re in Hong Kong after all) and fills up quickly. Grab a seat outside if you can! Since I’m living in the New Territories I don’t make it down to Central too often but whenever I go from now on, this place will be at the top of my places to go....…Read More

Great dumplings
古城餛飩
2020-10-17
I found this place after I bought bicycle parts around the corner. It’s a noodle / dumpling shop but more Xinjiang style than Cantonese style. The dumplings are made fresh and include anything from shrimp, port to lamb. The noodles are also quite tasty. The broth was ok but could’ve been a bit thicker.Overall really good value for money, a large bowl with dumplings and noodles was just HKD 35.…Read More

One of the few authentic La Mian places
Omni Palace Noodle House and Grill
2019-12-14
I visited this restaurant for lunch on a Saturday afternoon around 14:00. It wasn’t too busy and I got a seat immediately. The menu is limited to a few noodle and rice dishes and some appetisers. That said, personally I prefer having not as many options but the limited options of great quality. And the quality was great!I ordered the spicy beef noodles (牛肉拉面). You can pick your kind of noodles between thin and thick. I went for the thicker ones (option G). Those noodles are a bit wider and harder to eat with chopsticks compared to the thin noodles. I liked the taste and the texture, reminded me of “Knife noodles” (刀面). The beef and the soup base were great. It wasn’t spicy enough for my taste so I added extra chilli sauce.I also ordered a tea leaf egg and pickles as side dish. The egg was good, the pickles were a bit too oily and salty for my taste but overall ok.I paid HKD 90 (no drinks included) for one dish with two appetisers. Not bad for Causeway Bay.The restaurants interior was very clean and nicely decorated.Unfortunately I’m not too often in Causeway Bay, but I’ll come back next time.…Read More

One of the best spicy restaurants in Hong Kong
Yu
2019-08-16
I'm a huge fan of spicy food. However, most spicy food you can find in Hong Kong isn't properly Sichuan or Hunan spicy but a toned-down Cantonese version. Having told my friend that I love spicy food, he took me to this restaurant today. He claimed this is the real, authentic Sichuan stuff. And boy was I in for a surprise. We arrived shortly after 12:00 we before the lunch crowd arrived. We were lucky and got a table immediately. I ordered the dan-dan noodles with "saliva chicken" (口水鸡) together with a cucumber soy milk and a "Sichuan Penna Cotta" as desert. You can choose four out of four different spicy ratings with 1 being the most mild version and 4 being the "I'm burning your face away" spicy option. I decided to go with 3 out of 4 and I wasn't let down down... It was a proper Sichuan spicy experience with the spices hitting you half way through until you feel the "numb" from the peppers at the end. I couldn't feel my tongue (I was afraid I accidentally swallowed it in between), my lips were on fire, just how Iove it. Great stuff. The cucumber soy milk was just right. Normally, mix soy drinks tend to be either too toned down, i.e. you don't really taste the ingredient apart from the soy or they overdose it and you can't taste the soy. This one stroke a nice balance. What completely blew me away is the Chilli Penna Cotta. It's not really that spicy but it gives you the same Sichuan pepper experience where your throat gets numbed after you eat it. I haven't had food as exciting as this since I tried 白酒 ice cream at a distillery in Taiwan 10 years ago. Definitely worth a visit. Whenever I'm back to Causeway Bay, I'll go to this place for lunch or dinner. …Read More

Great soup noodles and shared platter
Vietnam House
2019-05-18
I went there with the family of four including my two children. We ordered a few dishes including a simple Phoa Soup noodles, a shared platter including sliced pork, tofu, and fried spring rolls, rice rolls and vegetables (morning glory).I liked the noodle soup best. Simple dish but the broth was just right and the few leaves of green gave it just the right typical Vietnamese Phoa taste. The shared platter was ok. I’m not a huge fan of pork so I left that to my wife. The tofu tasted more like a mixture of Vietnamese salami and tofu, maybe the menu wasn’t accurate. The fried spring rolls are best to enjoyed wrapped within the lettuce leaves. The morning glory was good, the garlic wasn’t fried through properly so it was quite “spicy”. The rice rolls were goodStaff was friendly, food arrived within 10minutes. They also got fishes that I wouldn’t consider Vietnamese but rather Sichuan such as fried spicy tofu cubes, spicy beans and, this being more Cantonese, egg and pork belly. I’d go there again for the Phoa and the rice rolls.…Read More
