I ordered one scoop, chosing rose flavor gelato.  The taste of the rose was nice and fragrant with a bit of bitterness that you would find in actually eating the petals. However, my grip is this: the gelato was .. not very good. It claimed to be artisan gelato. Um...if it is, it really is pretty bad gelato. It was not creamy enough and had a strange plasticy feel. For what I paid for, it was a pretty small scoop. There was no actual center to the rose. All you get is the petals and that equates to probably half a ball of ice cream. Maybe less. That's pretty expensive for mediocre ice cream. It was pretty enough and I got a lot of nice little social media likes from it. For that, I think it fit it's purpose.

Here's my thing. When I was in Paris, I encountered a shop called Amorino which specializes in rose shaped gelato. Not only was their gelato excellent, it was also a bigger rose and much more beautifully shaped. I even re-encountered it in Milan and had it all over again.

Now, I looked up Givres website to see what they were about. I had never heard of them. Seeing as gelato is Italian, what is with the French name? From their website, they claim to be a founded in London but I could find no London based information anywhere. They also claim to be the first in Hong Kong to make this rose shape gelato and thus, patented it so they are the ONLY ones to do this. Um...what? I can think of at least two other places (one of them is Le Salon de Joel Robuchon) in Hong Kong that have done this way before they did and still doing it.

For whatever they are stating, I'm really quite disappointed. The gelato was not good. It was much too over priced for and definitely not value for money. Will not return.
