All day dim sum restaurants are abundant in Hong Kong. There are those with huge chains and then there are the small independent ones. Some even have Michelin stars. All offer one thing: dim sum all day long.熱點 (English name : Hot Point) is located in Prince Edward. An area with a number of all day dim sum restaurants. It seemed like any other dim sum place with a dim sum take away counter in the front. Hungry and tired from all the Chinese New Year flower shopping, we decided to eat here.Inside
熱點 (English name : Hot Point) is located in Prince Edward. An area with a number of all day dim sum restaurants. It seemed like any other dim sum place with a dim sum take away counter in the front. Hungry and tired from all the Chinese New Year flower shopping, we decided to eat here.
Inside seemed like your regular restaurant with booths and tables. But what surprised me was the murals on the wall. They were illustrations of the dim sum they served. Clever!
Menu is in English and Chinese except for the afternoon tea specials menu which is in Chinese only. But the afternoon tea menu is basically the same items as the regular menu but with a few discounts. There is a $5 tea charge and no 10% service charge. You order by checking off a piece of paper (which is in Chinese only) and pay on your way out. Thus, we ordered a few items from the afternoon tea menu.
Hot Point’s Prawn Dumplings ($16). These were quite large in size and very very good. The prawn filling was fresh and firm. The skin was thin and didn’t fall apart.
Pork Dumplings with Crab Roe ($15). These were well made as well. The filing was very savory. There were bits of roe on top for a bit of crunch.
Steamed Beef Stomach Sheets with Scallion ($26). Boyfriend loved the sauce so much he drank it. I was a bit surprised by that. But the beef stomach was very soft and savory. Digging about, we found daikon that was soaked in all the sauce.
Crispy Dumpling with Pork ($28). This was too cute to not order. And surprisingly, the only cute item on their menu. Which is interesting as most places like them try to create a massive amount of cute looking dim sum to attract customers. But this place only did one. And cute they were. The dumpling was crispy and stuffed with a sweet minced pork filling that had a lot of sauce. I realized at that moment that most places usually create these into swans but this place did little piggies.
Crispy Rice Rolls with Purple Rice ($20). We were curious about this so ordered it. It was also featured on their wall mural. These were really good. The outside was smooth. It wrapped itself tightly with a crispy wrapping that held fresh sweet shrimp filling. This was not only beautiful but tasted delicious.
Pan Fried Green Chili Pepper ($17). It seems we order this item every time we go to dim sum places like this. However, we were surprised that the sizes here were bigger. They were also stuffed very well with minced dace fish meat which I love. It wasn’t too oily and the chili pepper was had a good amount of heat.
Steamed Buns with BBQ Pork and Sugar ($16). A very crispy topping on top of a soft sweet bun. And inside was filled to the brim with savory char siu.
Steamed Glutinous Rice with Eight Treasures ($48). This included chicken feet, spare ribs, shredded chicken, minced pork patty, mushroom, Chinese sausage, corn and dried shrimp. Portion size was larger than most places so we got at least two bowls of rice each. The rice was nicely fragrant with a lot of dried shrimp found throughout. The toppings were not over cooked and quite good with a mention to spare ribs which were my favorite.
Baked Sago Pudding ($20). We ended with this as dessert. The pudding was sweet and gooey. Portion was quite generous as well with lots of sago.
I’ve been to a lot of all day dim sum restaurants and this was one of the better ones. The food was not sloppy and everything tasted good. Portions were generous and food came out fast so there wasn’t much of a wait. Place was clean as well. Would definitely be back.
