Haven Street has opened up a number of new restaurants after replacing a few that closed. One of them is 蕃茄仔 (English name: Red Object). A shop that serves up noodles in a tomato soup. I love tomato soup based noodles and thus, I was interested. Boyfriend and I had the day off so we went there for lunch. Much to our surprise, there was a queue of people waiting and the place was extremely busy. The place isn't very big but people did eat fast so we didn't have to wait long for a table. Seating
The menu is in Chinese and English. There is no 10% service charge. Ordering is done by scanning a QR code found on the corner of the table and pay on your way out. They serve cold noodles (which was not available that day) and hot soup noodles. For the soup noodles, you choose the type of noodle and what protein to go on top of it. There are extras like siddes and drinks. Drinks are discounted if you order a food.
I had the Pork Three in One noodles ($78) and added $5 to change to somen. This included a pork loin, two braised pork feet and sliced Canadian pork shoulder blade. The pork feet was so soft, it literally fell off the bone. The gelataneous meat was just divine. The pork shoulder blade was really good but what I loved a lot was the pork loin. Thicklyo cut and just so tender with a rich pork taste.
Boyfriend had the Beef Two in One ($78) and added $8 to change to udon. It included sliced US flat iron and braised US inside skirt. The braised skirt was so soft and tender. I loved the bit of chewy tendon on the side. The flat iron had a rich beef flavor.
The soup was most definitley the star. Rarely I fnish the soup but here I did. The tomato soup was rich and thick. A strong tomato taste with what I suspected a bone broth base? I loved the addition of basil to give it a bit of freshness.
A great addition to the already great eats on this street. Price is not overly expensive and portion size was more thn generous. Will definitely be back.
