Last week, we were celebrating a friend's birthday and brought a birthday cake to the restaurant, so that we could have the cake after dinner.

We were stunned as the waitress presented us the cake the way we brought it in--inside the box with the strings still tied and, of course, candle unlit.

We were stunned again when the waitress asked us if she should lit the candle for us while asking us for a lighter.

We were even more stunned when after she lit the candle, she told us that having non-Maxims cakes brought to the restaurant would be charged $100.

We refused to pay because nobody told us about charges when we brought the cake to the restaurant, when the cake was put on the table or before the candle was lit.

Had we known there was a charge, although never heard of before in any other restaurants or karaokes, we would not have brought the cake to the restaurant, we would not have even considered having birthday dinner at 粵翠軒or any other Maxims' restaurants.

Another waitress came after we complained, who was the one who received our cake in wrapped Madarin Oriental Hotel packing at the beginning and did not say a word about charges, told us that the restaurant graciously waived the charges this time but would have to charge next time bla bla bla.

I felt like a beggar being given a dime or something.

And worse yet, all staff left us alone afterwards without setting on table for us dishes and forks for the cake, although the dishes and forks were already placed at a working table next to us.

We set the dishes and forks ourselves, ate the cake and left with an extremely upset feeling.

Had it not been a dinner celebrating my friend's birthday, I would have strongly complained about it right at the moment.

How could services be that bad even at Maxims?

I have no mood to rate the food, although they should be fine in my memory, which will continue to be overwhelmed by how badly treated we were.

The carpet stinks a little by the way.
