Hello, my name is Zia, and I'm a hairy crab addict...  Every year I get excited when hairy crab season arrives, but I have to wait till mid-season to savour the crabs since my family has a preference for male crabs.  But this year, I started the hairy crab feasting early since I found out on social media that Paradise Dynasty has a special hairy crab menu for the season.  Godbro XO wasn't completely impressed when he visited the restaurant before, but since I've been whining to him that I want to try the colorful specialty soup buns, he finally succumbed to my whining when I told him about the special hairy crab menu.

The two of us were seated on a side of the restaurant towards the back, so we were away from the center of the restaurant, and our corner felt a little more quiet and calm than the hustle and bustle of the center of the restaurant.

After browsing the menu, we ordered what we essentially came for, the signature xiao long baos, the tofu with minced crab meat, and the shrimp with minced crab meat.

When the xiao long baos were served, it was accompanied with directions on how to eat them. Also, the condiments for the soup buns were already provided on the table. Our waiter also explained that only the original and crab roe xiao long baos needed to be eaten with vinegar.

Since XO and I were splitting the Special Dynasty Xiao Long Baos, I had the Original, Foie Gras, Cheesy, and Szechuan flavored ones.  Overall, the xiao long baos had a thicker skin than we are used to, which XO and I deduced that it could be the coloring they used that made the dough heavier.  The xiao long baos had a good amount of soup in them.  The specialty flavors were different from what I was used to.  I thought the foie gras flavor would be very heavy, but it wasn't.  The cheesy one had a lighter cheese flavor.  The Szechuan flavor one wasn't as spicy and hot as I thought it would be, and since I can't take really spicy food, I didn't have to gulp on water afterwards.

The Tofu with Minced Crab Meat had good sized chunks of tofu, and the tofu didn't break up into tiny pieces in the cooking process.  The tofu had a good soy flavor, and the minced crab meat and tofu flavor combo was delicious.

The Shrimp with Minced Crab Meat looked drier than the tofu dish, so we presumed that they may have mixed in some salted egg yolks.  The shrimps were fresh and crunchy, but the minced crab meat was a bit gritty for our taste.  The flavor was good, it's just the texture was a little off.

Since we were still a little hungry, we decided to order a vegetable and noodle.

The Stewed Bamboo Shoots in Oyster Sauce is a cold dish.  The bamboo shoots were nice and crunchy and infused with the oyster sauce.  It had a perfect balance between sweet and savoury.

The Laksa La Mian with Seafood was recommended by my dad when I asked him where I could find a good bowl of laksa in HK.  I know this is a Shanghainese restaurant, so laksa doesn't quite fit in, but the restaurant is also a Singaporean chain, so it's not surprising to see Singaporean dishes in the menu!
I've made a few laksas at home before, and I tend to like to make mine less spicy.  The laksa here was much spicier than the one I make.  The broth had a good coconut flavor and fragrance, but I'd like it better minus the ground pepper.  The Shanghainese noodles were surprisingly a good match for the laksa broth since the broth clinged onto the noodles easily.  The laksa came with 3 large prawns, but it could be even better if they deshelled the prawns, so they could have soaked up the laksa flavor.  The egg I'm not quite sure where I stand with because it's a good medium-boiled egg but it strayed away from the traditional hard-boiled egg that comes with laksa.  My final stance on this laksa: I like it, but it's different!

Of course, I had to satisfy my sweet tooth at the end of a meal.  So, we ordered the Pan Fried Pumpkin Pastry.

When the Pan Fried Pumpkin Pastry was served, they were inflated pumpkin pockets.  There isn't a filling in the pastry, but the pastry itself had a mochi-like chewy texture.  It was not overly-sweet and had a good pumpkin flavor.

After begging godbro for months to accompany me to Paradise Dynasty, the experience definitely didn't disappoint!
