Today is the first race of the 2017 Formula 1 season and my friends decided to have brunch at Dickens. We used to come here more regularly to watch races but it must have been a year ago since I last went.

It was just before 1pm at lunch time when I arrive and the place was almost full already. Luckily we made a booking and were assigned to a long table with a TV to ourselves. In case you haven't been there before Dickens is a bar and restaurant (with The Excelsior hotel) where you can watch major sports events on TVs and big screen. It is conveniently located in Causeway Bay just a minute walk from Sogo.

The brunch buffet was on and they have lots of variety. It's excellent especially when you are hungry but not for me today as I still felt hungry from my rather late breakfast. Had a browse of the one page menu and thought about getting the Caesar Salad with Smoked Salmon. But the Steak Sandwich my friend ordered earlier was looking nice so I decided on that. Took me a while to spot for a waiter to come over as there were not many.

My food arrived in a reasonable time given the place was busy. The quality at Dickens has been fairly consistent for the past 10 years in my view. The bread was warm and crispy, and the sunny side up egg was perfectly fried. The steak is nice with sweet onion sauce on top, but of course it's not comparable to one at a steak house. Three pieces of sliced tomato and some lettuce complete the sandwich itself, plus a bunch of hot crispy chips served on the side with ketchup.
I thoroughly enjoyed the meal while watching the F1 race with my best friends. The price was reasonable given the place is inside a hotel, and we were offered some discount with a particular credit card. The service attitude was good despite lack of staff serving. Will be back again in the future.
