There is a new store in Diamond Hill: Antoshimo. Its selling point: deep-fried buns. There is even a special take away counter for those. Here are the six flavours to choose from: A - Red bean; B - Purple Sweet Potato; C - Curry Pork; G - Sesame; O - Original and J - Potato. It was almost 6pm when we got there, but the tea menu was still up. We ordered two bun sets with hot brown sugar soy milk. The drinks were super hot and to my surprise did not taste sweet at all. I usually find drinks way too sweet, but here it was all the contrary.

Next up were B and G buns that came inside separate paper bags. I must say the service was not the best. The lady who took our order was unfriendly and the (young) waiter who served us food was chatting with another colleague. It looked like he did not know whether the food was ours or not. He simply left the basket on one side of the table without looking at us or saying anything. That was some service!

At least their motto "deep-fried, but not oily" was genuine. The buns were indeed non-greasy. That I would give them good credit. The food was also steaming hot. It was so hot that we had to wait a few minutes before eating. The mochi inside was soft, almost runny. It blended well with the filling.

Personally I have never been a great fan of black sesame paste buns. The taste of sesame paste and dough just does not agree with me. The sweet potato was better perhaps because of its natural sweetness, but I feel these buns should be salty. For a second try, I would choose salty buns to go. Curry, maybe.

If you are up for some hot snacks, try Antoshimo. It is "deep-fried, but not oily".
