All you can eat Japanese are popular in Hong Kong. There are so many. Majority are pretty bad in quality or they always seem to forget your order. But this place is a bit different.

Boyfriend, his friend and I met one night for dinner as they had an all you can eat need. I chose this place as a coworker had come and told me that it was a bit ... different.

They have two time slots: 6:15 - 8:15 pm ($238 per person on weekdays and $268 for weekends and public holidays) and 8:45 - 10:45 pm. ($26 on weekdays and $288 for weekends and public holidays) If you get there before the time slot, you have to wait in line to get in. This is what happened with us. But on the dot ... when it was time to go in, everyone scrambled up the stairs to start pigging out!

When we sat down, we were informed what time was last order before they cleared everyone out of the restaurant. This would give them ample time for them to clean up and as boyfriend noted, a better way for them to control the problems of some people never wanting to leave after their two hours of gluttony was over. Maybe it was so organized, food came out very quickly and no item that was ordered did not show up.

The restaurant was more spacious than most all you can eat Japanese places. As I've been to some pretty cramped ones.

Menu was in the form of check off sheets of paper organized by category such as sushi, tempura, etc. It is in English and Chinese.

Drinks are all you can drink and you help yourself at the fridges in the back. They also have tea that you pour yourself in the same area. There is a freezer of ice cream but you have to ask the staff as each person can only have one cup of ice cream. That part is not all you can eat.

This was something the three of us found ingenious. This plate was brilliant! It had a built in area for your soysauce/wasabit mixture. It not only saved space by deleting the use of an extra small plate for soysauce, but it saved on washing dishes! I need a plate like this!

Throughout the night, there is someone who announces on a microphone that the kitchen has created a limited number of special dishes and if you want one, you are to raise your hand. This announcement in is Cantonese only. Here are the special dishes we grabbed.

Chinese Double Boiled Soup. We weren't really sure what soup it was but it seemed to have daikon, carrots and bits of pork. The three of us got four bowls of soup out of it. It was pretty sweet and good tasting soup.

Pan Fried Salmon with Herby Potato. This was actually pretty good. The salmon was cooked perfectly. It was well seasoned. The potato was fluffy. It was layered on a dill mayo sauce. It even looked pretty.

Spicy Octopus with Cucumbers. This was a nice chillled dish where the octopus was cooked perfectly so it wasn't rubbery. The cucumbers were fresh and crunchy.

The following are items we ordered off the menu.

Baked Oysters. Fairly medium size oysters were used that were  fresh and not just placed on top of shells and baked. They were covered with a nice amount of cheese and crunchy bacon bits.

Crab Roe Salad. The shredded carrots and cucumbers were crunchy and fresh. There was a nice amount of crab roe on top. They squirted the side with mayo so you mix this salad up yourself. It tasted pretty good.

Grilled Lamb Rack With Herbs. This was pretty big. Bigger than I had expected. It was grilled to a well done but it was still juicy. There was so much crunchy breaded coating that was also seasoned generously.

Clams with Butter Sake Sauce. This was really good especially for an all you can eat place. Boyfriend's friend agreed. Most places when we order this, most of the clams are usually just shells. Here majority still had the meat inside them. Not only that, most places the sauce you can't taste any sake but some watered down version of sake. This place, the sake was so strong, you can almost get a light buzz from eating this.

Handrolls. We ordered three sea urchin with spring onion rolls and one soft shell crab roll. The nori was crunchy. The filling was fresh and tasty. Pretty delicious in my book.

Random Tempura Items. We ordered tempura shrimp, tempura okra, tempura sweet potato and crab meat cream cakes. The tempura was still hot and crunchy when it came. The crab meat cream cakes were ok and fairly creamy on the inside.

Random Sushi Items. We ordered a few sushi items such as grilled salmon, prawn and sea urchin, Thai style tiger prawn, wasabi wagyu, crabstick with mayo and grilled eel. Quality of the sushi was decent and fresh. It also wasn't a super huge size so you can still keep eating.

Tie Eel and Scallop. This was an item we didn't know what it was so we just ordered it. It was pretty tasty like clam meat on top of scallop.

Random Grilled Items. Ordered a few grilled items: chicken wings, eggplant and grilled little fish. These were a bit underseasoned. But the eggplant was actually the best of this plate.

Assorted Mushrooms and Vegetables. I think the meat loving guys ordered this for me who needed some veggie. This was ok and larger than we expected.

Random Grilled Skewers. We ordered pineapple, bite size angus beef, ox tongue, mini sweet potatoes, seafood stick (which we found out was actually a Korean seafood pancake on a stick). Skewer items were ok. Though the pineapple was a bit disappointing as it wasn't even grilled.

Random Sashimi. We ordered some random sashimi: hokkigai, salmon, tuna, scallop, octopus, mategai, abalone and sumo sweet shrimp. For an all you can eat place, it was pretty good quality. Cuts were thick and fresh.

At one point during the night, the restaurant will ring a bell and announce a salmon fillet demonstration. Lots of people will line up to take photos of the fish and watch the chef fillet a salmon in front of you. Slices of this salmon will be divided up and those that want some can line up to get a plate.

I took a plate of the freshly sliced salmon. Personally, I think the salmon we ordered from the menu tasted a bit better than this one as it is probably from a different breed. But it was fun and interesting to watch someone fillet a fish. A good educational experience for kids especially.

Near the end of the dinner session, the staff will announce their special limited dessert. We grabbed both of them.

Custard with Chocolate Sauce. I wasn't too into it but I'm not much of a chocolate fan. Boyfriend and his friend thought it was great as it was like eating mouthfuls of chocolate sauce.

Water Jelly. This is a new trendy thing that is happening in Japan lately. Jelly that is clear like water. It is basically tasteless so you really need to rely on the brown sugar for flavor. This place adds honey as well so this made it sweeter. I like jelly so it was I liked it enough.

For an all you can eat Japanese place, quality was really good and food came out quickly without delays and everything came. No item was forgotten from our orders. I think that is pretty impressive. They had some fun gimmicks to make  the evening a bit more fun than just eating away. Would return again.
