As mentioned in my previous reviews, I am not really enthusiastic in writing reviews, as I dun get paid for doing so. However, this dining experience was so welcoming that I have to write a review about it. The reservation of teaset was to be frank troubling. The reservation of teaset was to be frank troubling. The reservation can only be made online via the Shangri-la's own booking system. Moreover, you have to specifically choose 'Bird Cage Tea Set' on the search criterion in order to check whether the preferred day provides the tea set. If you didnt choose the right search criterion, no valid reservation for the tea set can be made. The Hotel has already stated in a small clause to remind customers about it. But it's still a bit inconvenient.
After the reservation, we made it that day to have the tea set. I would like to compliment on the arrangements that the tea-set is not fixed with the choice of pastries. Under the tea set, you can choose the Chinese or Western kind of pastries, and whether to pair it up with liquor or not. For us, we chose the Western style.
Before arrival of the tea set, a welcoming drink was brought to each of us, which was some kind of iced tea (seems Oolong), decorated with a little Orchid petal on the side. It was a perfect drink for a warm day like the 4th of Jan. Moreover, a welcoming snack of smoked-tuna (~ish) was also served to us, which was nice.
The scones were fine. The cream meant for the scones was yum.
The choco served at latter part of the tea time was very nice, but not the fried snacks stored inside the bird cages...urghh
It seems that the tea-set was merely fine. But then, I especially adore the superb services performed by the waiters there, who were willing to take multiple pictures for us, refilling water multiple times for us. More importantly, they served us with smile, which is rare in famous hotels or Michelin restaurants in HK, like Robuchon and Mandarin Oriental (not the Landmark one).
In addition, I am so stunned by the tea-set per se. It's so lovely and refreshing design, as distinct from those boring mainstream three layers kinda set as seen in many places, which bored me to death.
So, I really enjoyed the dining experience there. However, the decor of the Hotel per is is quite 90s, and swarmed with Mainlanders. Thus, these might be what you should be vigilant at before going there for a tea-set.
