Summer has arrived and still dreaming of travelling to nice coastal area like Okinawa? It’s such a shame we cannot head to places on our travelling bucket list yet due to the pandemic, yet @awaawahk has simulated that joyous and carnival-like Okinawa ambience for you in Peel Street!
Have never been to Okinawa, I cannot tell if the food are authentic but they are absolutely tasty and we finished every single bit! We had the octopus salad, market fish tostada and the sweet potato fries as our appetisers. The octopus is cooked just right, so soft and tender, together immersed in lightly acidic sweet chilli dressing with fresh wakame seaweed. While the tostada with seabream ceviche marinated in okinawa lime juice is so fresh and bright, with a gentle kick of heat from the jalapeño. It was my first time trying off miso mayo with sweet potato fries, surprisingly it tastes well!
Surprisingly the taco rice is so good and filling! Nothing heavy with the Japanese rice and beefy short ribs, but light and refreshing with the tomato salsa. The deep-fried sweet and sour pork has that light crisps outside, with a unique umami wrapped in a piece of seaweed. All that sweet and sour flavours comes from the mango and pineapple salsa, giving that tropical okinawa-ish vibes.
With their lovely staff giving us a warm welcome, we are quickly seated luckily (they don’t do reservations!) There were a total 3 of us thus we chose not to sit at that pretty bar area. What I loved most is that you may go for half portion, and you can save more room for tasting different dishes♬
