I have wanted to come here for the longest time and today is finally the day I get to try out this bakery-by-day, bistro-by-night restaurant. I used to purchase from their bakery but the prices have drastically increased and thus my visits have stopped as I believe there are other bakeries in HK that sell similar products at a lower price.

Bread Basket and Whipped Brown Butter $35

The bread basket consisted of two types of bread: sourdough and rosemary focaccia. Sourdough is very crusty with a nice soft interior, focaccia is extremely fluffy and flavourful. I had high hopes given they started as a bakery and the breads were good but the portion is seriously small and laughable. There are three thin and flimsy slices for both and the sourdough slices were literally the size of an iPhone 5 which confused me a lot as I know their sourdough loaves are pretty wide.

The butter is delicious with the bread but there is way too little bread thus a lot of butter was unused. At the end of our meal, I asked for a small container to take it away so as to not waste it but they did not have any food containers and had to store that one tbsp of butter in a coffee cup.

Don’t really recommend this dish as it’s truly not worth the price and it would be much wiser to buy a loaf for $25 in the bakery. If this wasn’t served hot, I would have definitely sent it back.

Roasted Jerusalem Artichoke $130

Quite a steep price for a vegetable dish but artichokes are almost never seen in HK restaurants or even at the market so I always try to order it when I see it on the menu. They do a pretty decent version here with them being perfectly roasted with a slight char on the outside and silky, tender flesh. The smoked shallot puree compliments artichoke very well along with the crisp pear slices and herb oil. I also really enjoyed the artichoke chips on top which added a really pleasant texture as well as incorporating another layer of artichoke into the dish to really highlight this elusive ingredient.

Portion isn’t too bad to share between two.

Fish Sandwich $150

I remember the first time I saw this sandwich on my feed and it was only $100 😅 oh how time and inflation flies 🥲.

Nonetheless, I had great expectations for this sandwich and needless to say, it lived up to the hype. A beautiful and thick piece of cod with a shatteringly thin and crisp beer-batter coating on a perfectly soft yet stable brioche bun lathered with a non-mayonnaise heavy tartar sauce that focuses more on the crunch of dill pickles and the grassy tarragon. Such a dreamy bite and the only flaw was the weak and underwhelming slice of cheese (supposedly red Leicester) which lacked flavour and did not contribute anything to the sandwich.

One sandwich is okay to share between two but I could honestly eat one myself because it’s not too heavy.

Crispy Smashed Potatoes, XO butter $75

Someone recommended me this before and I didn’t have high expectations but this turned out to be insanely good and delicious. The potatoes are so crispy on the outside thanks to the skin whilst the inside is so fluffy and tender with the strong, hearty potato flavour. The XO butter crisped up the edges of the potatoes so well and I love the crispy bits that decorate the top. These bits are quite salty and savory but having it with the tender potatoes is top-notch. These came after the fish sandwich but I knew it would taste really good with the fish sandwich so we (a group of two) ordered another one to have with the potatoes. Only for them to misunderstand my order and thought we wanted another bread basket. So we just gave up and ate the rest of the potatoes alone.

A very generous portion (finally) which is satisfying for both my stomach and my wallet.

Matcha Cookie, XL Chocolate Chip Cookie

After our dinner, we were each given a choice of leftover sweets from their bakery. There was Matcha Cookie, their famous XL chocolate chip cookie, and chocolate doughnuts. The two of us got both cookies to try as it is only one per person.

It was my first time trying their XL cookie and it is usually $55 for one so getting it for free here made it taste extra good 😁. The cookie is baked to perfection with an extremely chewy and caramelised base that isn’t too thin or thick but still has a crisped edge and tender middle. There aren’t too many chocolate chips which I wasn’t too mad about because the cookie base is so good. I do believe that some flaky salt on top would have made it better to balance out the sweetness. Love the size of this, we shared half and I saved half for the ride back home 😄.

The matcha cookie did not taste matcha, only the slightest hint of tea at the centre of the cookie. It also did not look like matcha and was quite brown, like a regular cookie and the base tasted a lot like the chocolate chip base but with white chocolate chips instead which isn’t too sweet and added a nice softness. They added some salt on the top of this cookie which made it really balanced and delicious. Not a bad cookie but I think their XL cookie would be better for value and taste 🤭

推介 🙆🏻‍♀️

💬 Overall, really enjoyed the food here but the service is definitely a sub-par aspect of the restaurant and needs improvements. I heard the service is much better than the floor staff were all foreigners (they are all locals now) and I agree as the one non-local waitress was the only accommodative and friendly one. I would be back for the fish burger and potatoes (and free cookies) because it was so good. Total was $420 for two people, reasonable for HK standards.
