SimplyLife Bakery Cafe is a lovely concept. There are several branches throughout Hong Kong and I had the fortune of visiting one in Central. The food is western with some HK flair and the selections are not bad. The decor, layout and overall interior design is pleasant. SimplyLife Bakery Cafe is a lovely concept. There are several branches throughout Hong Kong and I had the fortune of visiting one in Central. The food is western with some HK flair and the selections are not bad. The decor, layout and overall interior design is pleasant. The staff are well dressed and the ambience makes it an enjoyable experience.
Sha Tin however, has the most ridiculous queuing and waiting system I have ever come across. This causes significant people traffic standing outside and tickets that are 20-30 even 40 places after the last called number. The staff will kindly tell you there is a waiting period of 1-2 hours, with a smile and a gentle nod.
Why is this? The shopping mall, New Town Plaza has an app where you can book without even being present. So, you can request a ticket at 10am and saunter to the restaurant around 12 noon for a table. Others can choose to walk up, get a shock at the number and either patiently stand or go shop.
What happens if you miss your number? Do not worry, the staff at Sha Tin's SimplyLife offer you a chance to wait for a "callback". If you missed your table call by 5 numbers or less, just stand and wait to be seated as the next in line. Different letters, different numbers for different sized parties.
During pretty much all hours, even 9pm at night, you can experience lottery style number calling. It can feel like your playing Bingo. A44, B27, A39, A40, B24, B25, C10, C9?
Hopeless, laughable, insufferable experience. Good luck!
