Summer Holiday has just begun and it's time for me to search for YUMMY food! The first LUCKY shop is 山地人
HAve you ever put in something into your mouth which is black in colour and looks exactly as the charcoal, besides sesame sweet soup or squid angel noodles!?!?!??
This time I summon up the courage to try this NEW WIERD thing!
When I enter the shop, the waiters give us a very warm welcome. Then they recommended the BAMBOO CHARCOAL Sardine Baguette to us and the traditional Vietnamese Coffee, the dripping filter coffee.
After we ordered, the chef put in the fillings and baked it. After just a few minutes, it is READY!!!
Oh ~ YEAH~!! We really can't wait having a bite of it....the baguette is Sososos Crunchy and little bit warm. The sardine and the Baguette is a PERFECT MATCH!
A bite of it is full of fillings, including processed carrot, sour cucumber, Vietnamese ham, sardine and a little bit mayonaise.
Even it costs $33, a little bit expensive, it's really a big enough for two people.
One shouldn't be missed, the coffee, it's so RICH and different from that we have in CHa CHan Teng. I chose the original as other new flavours are quite sweet, according to the waiters.
This is highly recommended to those who need to watch their waist, like me as this is absolutely healthy and suitable for a light lunch in a hot sunny summer~!
After a delicious satisfying burger from Toppings, I was a bit thirsty so saw some drinks here, either young coconut or lime water.
Anyway I picked the lime water, it was displayed nicely in the drinks counter, already prefilled, with a wedge of lime in the cup. It tasted nicer than expected, no artificially cordial syrup taste to it.
Not too sour or too sweet, and it was very refreshing.
Their menu was pretty much the same since I last came, so nothing new on the menu for me to try.
as i just came bk from LA, i was rather surprise to see such rare vietnamese shop in hong kong, so i went in to check it out.
at first (and of course) i checked out the price, and it is reasonably priced - 33 dollars for an 8 inch bagguette with two or above toppings - what else do you crave for? WAY BETTER THAN SUBWAY
Although they are different from the ones i had in LA, the sure have their own style. There are three types of bread, - very creative and the shredded carrot is smtgh that cannot be missed out. It was sweet and sour, - very vietnamese and the pork and chicken were very chewy (fresh i suppose) and fits perfectly to the taste.
The waiting time was also quite appropriate, if you were to consider that the bread were freshly baked in the oven for you. around 5 - 10 minutes? which was quite reasonable i think. sometimes a bit longer, when they were full of customers.
What was more surprising is that there shop had a very clean hygiene and had a very nice smell of baked bread.
last but not least, they have such good service, they were polite and caring. they even ask you whether you want additional chilly, or no chilly - which some hk fast food restaurants dont do.
just one thing that could be improved - is the location. it would be better if they had their shop in popular places such as causewaybay - although they location isnt hard to find
Unfortunately, I came here with rather high hopes since I was craving for a Vietnamese baguette and choices do seem to be scarce in HK, so you can imagine my initial excitement upon stumbling upon this place which specializes in the aforesaid type of sandwich.
First, let's discuss taste, it makes me wonder how they can claim that the taste of their sandwiches is truly an authentic experience when it's nothing like the actual products made by Vietnamese proprietors, granted, they're not Vietnamese I realize but perhaps it would be reasonable for them to do a little research and perhaps try out the real thing before serving up those sandwiches of their. The taste is sadly not even on par with the baguettes I've had in the US or Canada which are surprisingly much closer to the real deal and much tastier. I had the pork on the wheat bun. The pork was tough and chewy with chunks of fat which I had to spit out, the shredded carrots were vinegary and sour, as opposed to being the sweet and sour pickled type which is the norm for such sandwiches. I also did not detect that special type of mayo-like/ egg spread which should be slathered on to the sandwich prior to crisping it up so it would not be dry and hard. Sure, the bread was crispy but aren't all bread suppose to be crispy when you put it in the oven anyways? For what you get for $33, it's rather expensive and not worth the price if you look at the ingredients. The wait time had also been excruciating and it was about 15 minutes before I finally got the sandwich. In authentic joints, that wait time should never be more than 5 minutes and it's made right in front of you. With this place, I noticed that they made it a point to cover up the preparation area with erected boards, which makes me question their hygiene. Anyways, I won't be back and I guess I'll just have to make my own Bahn Mi (the term for these Viet sandwices in Vietnamese) at home.
Tried out their stuff and it was kind a interesting to try out Vietnamese Baguette. I had the Black Malt Shredded Pork, and the taste is kind a unique. The proportion is kind a small for a guy like me, but for ladies who are looking for healthy diet, this one is a 'must'. Even guys too.
It's still a new shop and their is definitely room for improvements. I'm hope they can implement some more choices; and eventually enlarge the sizes of the bread or simply make it optional.
The price is a bit high (just a bit) but it's healthy and authentic, so I would recommend anyone to give this place a try. But if your a heavy eater or somebody with a BIG appetite and it happens to be your lunch time, then I wouldn't recommend you to go their for lunch unless otherwise.

Failure
So funny that 'scallion' is one of the ingredients! Honestly, it is not sorted of 'Vietnamese' style, it is absolutely 'Cantonese' style instead.
taste like-->叉燒包 on each bite!!
Pork meat so little and less!
Bread is okey, but it's not worth to pay $33 for a bread, right?
I have no guts to have a try for the drink......
Sorry... too bad!!!!
