    The "Froyo" of the East Smile Apr 26, 2011
    Share with MessengerShare on TwitterShare on Facebook
    Tucked away behind Times Square, this modern dessert place definitly puts a twist to traditional Chinese desserts and has definitly earned its own name and faithful customers. If it hadn't been for one of my friends, I wouldn't have tried it at all. I normally opt for heavier western/american desserts rather than the refreshing light Chinese fusions, so this was for sure a GREAT FIND.

    Come to think about it, smooth shaved ice is definitly the Asian version of "froyo" and has its own characteristics and delights.

    I strongly recommend the "龍眼椰果冰". which is Shaved Coconut Ice with Dragon Eye topping. ($26)
    The ice treats at this place in general are all very good, but this one is truly unique. Mangos, and strawberries are all very common flavors especially in hong kong dessert houses like hui lau san, and honeymoon dessert. So if i'm taking a trip to Causeway Bay, i'll be aiming for the ultimate dragon's eye.

    The ice is very smooth (not the same as ice-chippings from snow-cones or the "雪花冰"). A lot of places offering shaved-ice desserts use its sweetness to compensate for taste, but here, the light texture allows you to truly distinguish the tastes of the flavor. its a great balance.
    normally shaved ice sold in the bubble-tea stalls etc are more like long piled up flakes, but here the ice texture is beat to refined fluffiness.

    unfortunately they don't have variations of the traditional black sesame sweet soup which is a personal favorite, but this place has created a league of its own.

    this is a great place for the light semi-sweet crave. its quite popular especially with local students and you might need to wait a while especially in the evening, but SO WORTH IT!! lol

    Sugggled behind Times Square at the ground floor of Holiday Inn, this dessert cafe is popular among the local openrice fans and dessert connoseiurs as it's not a shop that Causeway Bay shoppers would just pass by. But despite the lack of walk-in customers, do expect a long queue during evening and night time.

    Since it opened its CWB branch last year, it's been my favourite hang out after dinner with friends for a nice wrap up to the night.

    The prices are very reasonable especially since they use quality ingredients in their dessert, unlike many other dessert shops in HK that uses too much syrup and sugar in their dishes. People do leave quickly as soon as they finish so even if there's a queue my longest wait has only been around 15 min.

    LOVE & MUST TRY lollollol
    * Honeydew ice with tofu - tastes like yummy fresh honeydew without any 'fake honeydew' candy taste
    * Longan ice with tofu - nice way to evolve traditional Chinese dessert elements
    * Strawberry ice with tofu - must have for strawberry lovers and you can taste that they use fresh, quality strawberries to blend it
    * Mango pancake
    * Durian pancake

    NOT SO GREAT
    * their hot desserts and sweet soups - some other local shops do a much better job
    * Sago desserts - Sago turns into hard little pearls when put together with a cold dessert, which is a minor issue but I don't chew like to hard sago~ (but if you don't mind then it's not a big deal I guess)

    Always a 聰嫂甜品 fans .... but not so convenient to go to Tseung Kwan O all the time. Each time that we went ..... we had to wait, and not so comfortable seating .... but always happy with their desserts!!! In Hong Kong, desserts had become an important part of dining out.

    聰嫂 gives one more dessert choice in cwb la tonguetonguetongue

    Papaya with suet yi sweet soup

    Papaya is sweet and soft enough, very colourful and very 潤after eating it….they cut it into pieces which is convenient to eat… They have some north and south almond too which is soft enough to eat it. The suet yi is 爽口 and provides lot of collegen as the sweet soup is quite sticky~

    Very good for woman’s skin and good for winter!!

    Durian pancake

    They give a lot of durian meat and cream in the pancake…durian is not sweet enough, may b the season is not right….the cream is very creamy with the durian when they mixed together, pancake skin is thin enough and full of egg taste, it’s good that it won’t be broken~
    It’s quite funny that the inner part of pancake is cold and outer layer of pancake is warm!
    It’s very 大陣味 when waiter deliver the pancake and when I eat it haha!!!

    聰嫂私房甜品 is one of my favourite "New Sweet Soup Restaurant".

    I am in love with their 龍眼冰/ 龍眼冰TOFU 花 but this time I chose their士多啤梨西米露.
    They served 士多啤梨西米露 and its sago separately. As told, this is to prevent freezing the sago. Thought I dont find that if I pour all the sago inside, it will be freezed, I can feel their caring and seriousness.
    士多啤梨西米露 has a lovely pink colour and lady like appearance, it is not the ordinary 西米露 but a freezed one just like their 龍眼冰.
    Its taste is not any close to fake strawberry taste and not fake sweet as well.
    Because of these,士多啤梨西米露 has become my 2nd favourite in this shop and I must come for it sooner or later.
