We had tried some of the other establishments along this street - such as the Queen Vic -and spotted the set lunch board from outside.

We came in, there were no customers so we chose to sit on the sofa seats. We were promptly told to vacate and to sit on a small table even though we were having lunch, not merely a drink. We said that we wouldn't be long with our original choice of table - one guy there then said "would 30 mins be okay" in a sarcastic tone. I just laughed and  replied that I'd doubt the food would be served within 10 minutes. They insisted we had to sit at the small table so we left.

Pretty poor way to treat paying customers, to be honest.

 
 

We came here for the semi-buffet lunch a few days ago with colleagues. I'd visited before, and it was a good lunchtime choice, particularly if you're hungry.

The starter and soup were unlimited, when you choose a main course and with a drink.

However, the service was quite terrible. We sat down in a booth seat, which they'd allocated but then after we had stocked-up on the starters/soup, they asked us how many people. We said 5, they then replied saying we had to vacate the seats because it's for 6 people - subsequently moving us to a table which was virtually the furthest away from the buffet area.

Some of my colleagues were even told to bring their own plates of food and cutlery. We were not asked but told to move.

I felt this tarnished our experience there, especially as some of my colleagues ate there for the first time. We were disgusted with how we were treated - ushered around like children. We also paid for the service charge but to be honest this was grudgingly done. A bit of common sense would've been most welcome in this case.I had Spring Chicken, which was fairly bland as well as the fries. Needed alot more seasoning.

From the lunch menu, there certainly alot of choice with Vietnamese and non choices but enough to cater for many tastes I'd suspect. After deliberating for a while, I chose the preserved sausage and taro fried rice. I'm not a fan of the vermicelli or noodles for lunch as I never find it filling enough and I'd skipped breakfast. So it came with a drink, for which I chose ginger tea. This came in a pot, which was a nice touch and had a pleasant taste.

The fried rice was well-seasoned and the taro added an extra taste. A little greasy at the bottom but this can be given for a quick service at lunchtime. Portion-size was adequate for a hungry tummy. Seating was comfortable and service was quick. 10% service charge added to the bill automatically.

Don't think you can pay separately as our totals were all added up on one bill.

Came here for dimsums with a group of 7 of us - it;s always better to have a group as you can order more items.
The setting is nice and clean and would be suitable for both gatherings or possibly business lunches.

I heard about the pastry-ish cha sui buns (bbq pork buns) and was eager to try. The taste is fairly rare in HK, as usually these are in a normal floury bun. But i don't generally eat those as i get a stomach ache and they dont taste very nice. The soy sauce pigeon was disappointing, as the taste was not quite there and a far cry from the roast kind you get in many Canto restaurants. Ham shou gok (don't know English name) were crispy blobs of delight. Except they were cut in two. Not the most attractive way to present them. A major negative is that they do not have woo gok (taro birds nest dumpling-thing), which is a very common dish and my personal favourite. Service was just okay. Food for the most part, was only quite good.

We had a table booked at another restaurant but spotted this pub and it's appealing lunch menu or British food. Bangers & Mash, Fish & Chips were some of the delights on offer and economically-priced, at $58 inc. drink.There were a choice of tables inside, as was the case later on in the lunchtime (we arrived at 12) which was surprising. I asked the waitress for the pick out of meat pie and fish and chips and she said fish and chips I couldn't go wrong with.

With a free soft drink,, this was a good deal.
And they had tartare sauce. Tick
And malt vinegar. Tick

Peas would've been a better side than salad but just minor quibble. The chips were not quite homemade chips but fine.
The fish was a fair size, a good crunch in the taste and cooked well. I seasoned everything well, to ensure maximum taste. As I always do with this dish.We finished with half a pint of beer to top it off.

Service was friendly and brisk. Food came after 15 or so mins. The cooked breakfast on a neighbouring table looked nice too.

This place, called the Yuan (although the Cantonese name sounds tot-all-y different. I had trouble finding this listing on Openrice. The decor from the outside marks it out as as different to the shopfronts and restaurants nearby. We went in, where there were free tables but we had to queue for ordering. We queried whether we could sit down and order but were told we couldn't. And what made it worse, was that the menu on the wall was in Chinese. And it was confusing. There was just 1 lunch set, and we asked why there was so little choice and they said we could order a la carte, add a drink - we said would this be cheaper - they said 'no'. But then they said this was still a 'set'. Think it's a bit like saying oh here;s a sandwich - oh, actually here's the bread, the cheese, the butter and ham and you have to make it yourself. Comprende?!!

So I chose the only lunch set, just to keep things simple. It was a chicken and cucumber concoction with rice, soup too. The taste was okay, pretty forgettable. There was a lot of cucumber there and could've been more chicken. The soup was fine. Overall, the dish was pretty dull. Too heavy on the cucumber.My tray was cleared even before i could finish the soup, without asking me whether i wanted it still or not.

A popular and well known eatery and most of the time, very difficult to find a spare table. When I come here I normally dine for one, it's like a guilty pleasure as I know I should be able to find a seat straightaway and slowly devour the food.

I have been here perhaps less than 5 times but the Roasted Pork - the taste of the skin and the meat is superb. It's slightly different to other roasted pork, the colour is not as orange as others but it's all about the taste. This time I had the cha sui and the meat was succulent, full of flavour and not too sweet or salty. Tea you can pour yourself, as well as the sauce.

For $25 for 1 sui mei with rice, it's really unbeatable value.

The seating is cramped, but that doesn't matter as all-in-all, it's a fine place to enjoy the food.

On high spirits, we headed to the Canny Man which is a sortof pub on Lockhard Road in Wanchai. The entrance is quite nice, as we walked in through the hotel and headed downstairs. With not many customers this lunch hour, we took booth seats and scanned the options available for lunch.

For around $90, there was a choice of Salad or Soup for starter, then I chose the Roast Beef with french fries. Finally with the dessert - which was ice-cream and they didn't have an alternative (as I'm lactose intolerant).

Free refills on the iced lemon tea (or tea/coffee) was a nice touch.The salad was nice, a good mix of colours and taste. Shame I couldn't try the soup (which comes with bread) as it had cream in it. But I hardly had any vegetables for a few days so I gratefully ate all of the salad.

Next, onto the mains. Roast Beef was cooked well and had some redness to it. It wasn't tough and cooked to the right level for the flavour to flourish/ I ordered french fries but you can choose mash or rice. Location and seating was nice and comfortable. Service was brisk and attentice. Would recommend.

This fairly-new Pizza shop is located conveniently for the LKF crowd, as it is right next to Ebeneezers and 7/11's.
It doesn't seem very crowded when we walked past and opted for a change from the usual kebab.

The pricing is perhaps a touch higher than Paisano's - Pepperoni was $40 where at Paisano's just $30-35. So, I opted for the Chicken Tikka which seemed to be more worth it, large chunks of chicken were placed on top of the pizza.

With a drink, (soft) this came to $55.We waited for the heating (in a pizza oven) and delved into it. It had a good taste and although chicken was a bit dry, adding some more salt and pepper enhanced the flavour. The cheese and crust had a good texture and the latter a good crunch. I felt this was almost as good as Paisano's, save for the slight dryness of the chicken.

Service was nondescript, and after 10 mins the music was turned up by one guy to levels close to a disco or nightclub. It was a deafening level, and what was worse, the guy just walked out (he worked there). I banged on the counter for them to turn it down, but they couldnt hear me so I had to get their tips box (which was metal) and slammed it into the counter, then they heard me.

We came here for a celebratory dinner and ate little for the meals preceding this one - ie. lunch (cheung fun) and breakfast (chewed gum). I do NOT necessarily recommend this, by the way.

I think almost everyone has a soft spot for buffets these days, but after visiting Las Vegas several years ago, where I tried 6 different buffets - including the Wynn, Bellagio, Paris Paris, Harrahs to name a few.Firstly, the lobster. The taste is just okay. The lobster is cold, and cooked. You get a few sauces - cocktail sauce (which is really just ketchup with chillis), vinegar, and lemon. I had 4 halves and that was enough. So, it's good if you like lobster, it's there but at the same time it was a bit of a shame as such an ingredient was made to taste just okay.

The sui meats was good, the suckling pig was a delight. On the whole, the taste of the savoury was good. We arrived at 615 - it starts at 630 - and it never got too busy. Even though, q busy. The foie gras you need to queue for, with scallop. And that can take 15 mins. But it was a good taste. Seriously, service was hit and miss, but they did try. I spilt the vinegar onto my shirt and they said I had to walk all the way to the toilet to clean it(a bit of a walk, esp when you have a plate full of food) but then they found a clean warm cloth for me.

I didn't eat a lot of dessert, as I'm lactose intolerant but it seemed fairly disappointing in the choice.
